Abstract

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women and significantly affects patients' quality of life. Beyond physical symptoms, patients often experience emotional and social burdens that deteriorate their overall well-being. While medical and psychosocial interventions are widely applied, spiritual aspects are often underemphasized. Therefore, spiritual-based interventions are needed to support recovery by fostering hope, emotional stability, and a sense of life meaning. To explore the effectiveness of spiritual-based interventions in improving the quality of life of breast cancer patients. This study employed a systematic review design. Articles were retrieved from three databases CINAHL, PubMed, and Scopus using the main keywords: “breast cancer,” “quality of life,” “spiritual care,” and “spiritual intervention.” Inclusion criteria were original research articles, written in English, published between 2011 and 2025, and involving breast cancer patients. Data were extracted using structured tables and analyzed descriptively using qualitative synthesis. Seven eligible studies demonstrated that spiritual-based interventions, such as prayer, group therapy, meditation, and religious counseling, positively affect the quality of life of breast cancer patients. Key outcomes included enhanced hope, reduced pain, improved emotional, physical, and social well-being, stronger spiritual resilience, better coping mechanisms, and increased social support through group-based activities. Spiritual-based interventions significantly improve the quality of life of breast cancer patients through a holistic approach, integrating physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions.

Abstract

Background: Social interaction is an important indicator during the process of social isolation treatment. The less active social interaction could lead to other mental disorders such as hallucination, suicide risk, self-care deficit, and violence risk. The study investigated the effect of Islamic Spiritual Mindfulness on Discharged Patient Detection Information System (SI-DEPAPU) application to enhance the social interaction of schizophrenia patients with social isolation. Methods: The research design used was quasi-experimental with a pre-post test method. The study used purposive sampling with 40 respondents divided into two groups of 20 people each. The instruments used were the Social Interaction Questionnaire and Behavioral Observation Sheet, which have been tested for validity and reliability. The statistical tests used included the paired t-test to assess social interaction within the group, the independent t-test to compare before the intervention, and the Mann-Whitney test for after the intervention. Results: The research finding showed the difference in the social interaction of patients before and after the intervention between the intervention group and control group (p=<0.001; <0.05), of which the mean value of the intervention group (43.79) was more significant than the control group (15.21). Conclusion: Based on the research results, it can be concluded that there was an increase in social interaction in patients after receiving Islamic spiritual mindfulness therapy. The SI-DEPAPU application can be implemented as a mental health nursing intervention to improve the social interaction of patients with schizophrenia who suffer from social isolation.

Abstract

Introduction: Changes and deterioration of the condition of Corona Virus Disease-19 (COVID-19) patients are unknown and can even lead to the death of the patient in the isolation room. This study focuses on identifying the problem of nurses monitoring and supervising the vital signs of COVID-19 patients in the isolation room. Methods: A descriptive qualitative study was conducted in January 2022 at a private hospital in Sukoharjo, Central Java. Ten participants who met the inclusion criteria were involved through purposive sampling. The semi-structured interview guidelines were developed by the researcher, and they used them to obtain the data. Interviews were recorded using a recorder device. The data from the interviews were recorded verbatim and analyzed using inductive content analysis following Elo and Kyngas's method. The member checking and thick description were done to maintain the validity of the data. Results: Three main themes were found from the emerging data, including 1) the comparison of nurses and patients is not ideal with patients' conditions that cannot be predicted, 2) personal protective equipment (PPE) and monitoring tools have not reached the appropriateness target, and 3) the demand for high-technology vital sign monitoring devices was not feasible. Conclusions: The problems being faced by the nurses in monitoring and supervising the vital signs of COVID-19 patients in the isolation room need innovative tools. Therefore, it is important for policymakers and related parties to create high-technology solutions for the isolation rooms to improve nursing service effectively and ensure the safety for patients and the nurses.

Abstract

Background:Examining the heart and lungs is necessary for critically ill patients, as these individuals may have abnormalities with either or both of these organs. This review systematically determined how the auscultation of the heart and lungs using a wireless stethoscope affected the results. Methods: The research design used was a systematic review following preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Databases were searched using the search terms "auscultation," "critical patients," and "stethoscope wireless” and associated MeSH terms. The abstracts of the selected articles were examined independently by two researchers. A systematic search was conducted through several databases (Scopus, PubMed, JSTOR, and Springer-link), which were published from July 2012 to July 2022 .After reading the full content of the included studies, key themes and concepts were extracted and synthesized. Results: In total 142 articles were screened. Five articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. The analysis revealed that wireless stethoscopes have increased sensitivity with indicators capable of diagnosing abnormal auscultation results in patients who have abnormal aucultation results on the gold standard. Three out of five studies suggested that the auscultation of the heart and lungs by wireless stethoscopes are more sensitive, while two other studies stated that wireless stethoscopes have the same sensitivity as manual acoustic stethoscopes. Conclusion: Based on this systematic review, a wireless stethoscope may be more sensitive than an acoustic one. Nevertheless, due to limited studies, a more well-controlled human study is warranted to be done.

Abstract

Early Warning Score (EWS) systems can identify critical patients through the application of artificial intelligence (AI). Physiological parameters like blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate, and respiration rate are encompassed in the EWS. One of AI's advantages is its capacity to recognize high-risk individuals who need emergency medical attention because they are at risk of organ failure, heart attack, or even death. The objective of this study is to review the body of research on the use of AI in EWS to accurately predict patients who will become critical. The analysis model of Arksey and O'Malley is employed in this study. Electronic databases such as ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed, and SpringerLink were utilized in a methodical search. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA SR) guidelines were utilized in the creation and selection of the literature. This analysis included a total of 14 articles. This article summarizes the findings on several aspects: the usefulness of AI algorithms in EWS for critical patients, types of AI algorithm models, and the accuracy of AI in predicting the quality of life of patients in EWS. The results of this review show that the integration of AI into EWS can increase accuracy in predicting patients in critical condition, including cardiac arrest, sepsis, and ARDS events that cause inhalation until the patient dies. The AI models that are often used are machine learning and deep learning models because they are considered to perform better and achieve high accuracy. The importance of further research is to identify the application of AI with EWS in critical care patients by adding laboratory result parameters and pain scales to increase prediction accuracy to obtain optimal results.
