Abstract

This study aims to understand how NCT's romance is commodified through the Bubble application. It employs a qualitative approach with a constructivist perspective. Informants were chosen based on their availability and willingness. Data were gathered from two sources: primary and secondary. Primary data were collected through interviews with informants and participant observation on the Bubble app, while secondary data were derived from relevant previous literature. The research data were analyzed in several stages: data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The study found that SM Entertainment, the media owner, recognizes the desire of NCTZen to have a closer connection with NCT. Consequently, SM Entertainment engages in three forms of commodification through the Bubble application: romantic content, labor, and audience. This commodification results in significant benefits for SM Entertainment due to the loyalty of NCTZen towards NCT.

Abstract

This study examines student resilience at MAS Al Ma'ruf Denpasar in response to Denpasar City Government's online learning policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Employing a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with students, teachers, and policymakers, the research identifies patterns of student adaptation to distance learning challenges. The descriptive qualitative methodology incorporates data collected via observation, in-depth interviews with stakeholders, and literature review. Conducted at MAS Al Ma'ruf Denpasar, the study utilizes purposive sampling for informant selection. Inductive data analysis reveals student adaptation strategies to technological limitations and academic workload. Key findings demonstrate that while initial resistance emerged due to technological constraints, excessive assignments, and limited social interaction, students progressively developed resilience through technological adaptation, self-regulated time management, and social support utilization. Critical resilience-enabling factors include: (1) systemic school support through teacher training and infrastructure provision; (2) participatory communication among school, student, and parent networks; and (3) curriculum-integrated adaptation values. Theoretical analysis through Foucault and Bourdieu's lenses reveals student resilience as both a response to power relations in educational policy and an outcome of negotiation between student habitus and available socio-economic capital. Policy implications emphasize three requirements for inclusive education: (1) flexible learning methods based on student realities; (2) equitable digital infrastructure strengthening; and (3) sustainable feedback mechanisms for active student participation in decision-making. These findings enrich crisis education discourse by proposing a school-community based resilience model adaptable to other emergency contexts.

Abstract

The results of the post-reform until the 2019 direct election showed that Bali had never succeeded in sending female representatives to the Indonesian Parliament. This paper discusses causes of the lackness of women candidates who succeced to gain chair in the national parliament. The paper uses supply-demand framework from Norris dan Lovenduski with qualitative method research. Demand side sees how political parties in Bali selected women to be their candidates discriminatively and not giving the same access to them. Supply side sees that women candidates in Bali get obstacles and constrains in various aspects such as (1) minimum financial ability, (2) lack of political experiences, (3) limited social networks, (4) limited time and space, (5) lack of motivation in political carrier. These cause an outcome of the lackness of women candidates being elected in the election.

Abstract

Indonesia has decided to hold simultaneous local elections on December 9, 2020, even though the country and the rest of the world still face the COVID-19 pandemic. The local election stages have begun in June 2020 by forming a unit to update data of voters and socialize how to hold the elections during the pandemic. This paper aims to build communication strategies in socializing how to hold the elections during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results were obtained using the survey method involving 440 respondents in Denpasar in September 2020. The communication strategy is a combination of offline and online mediums. Despite a policy to stay at home, data shows that residents of Denpasar still needed offline mediums such as billboards and banners. In addition, they also searched for information about the election through printed advertisements and television advertisements. To ensure the smooth socialization of election process, the General Election Commission (KPU) in Denpasar uses accounts in social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook in collaboration with parties that have a large number of followers or mass media that have accounts in social media with a large number of followers. However, almost all respondents do not follow the official account of KPU Denpasar. Uniquely, in Denpasar, some potential voters still rely on community leaders and figures in searching for information about the local election. To that end, to build communication strategies, these community leaders and figures should be involved. Data also show that online meeting like zoom, google meet, or Webex meeting is not sufficient.

Consequently, this paper describes how and why they brand themselves by using Apple products in their Instagram account. Personal branding theory related to impression management theory by Littlejohn and Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) by Tomic describe these phenomena. The study employed qualitative descriptive methods by interviewing a young apple addict. The outcome of their use of apple products as personal branding is netizens’ favorable perception of social media. They believe that using Apple products will enhance their personal brand. Their personal branding will improve their relationships, friendships, existence, education, and careers, as well as their amusement and usefulness. In order to develop their personal brand, they utilized impression management by displaying an Apple product in a photo or video mirror selfie directly within their Instagram content.
