Abstract

There have been many studies on the methods used to control DC motors, one of which is the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control method. The tuning procedure is carried out by trial and error whose results are not necessarily correct, to overcome this problem an alternative is needed that can achieve a better and faster value for the tuning process. Our contribution is explained the conventional PID (Ziegler - Nichols) and modificated PID (Chien - Hrones - Reswick). We also analyze the response of the speed-controlled DC motor using the Proportional, Integral, and Derivative parameters obtained from the tuning method described above. We also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each formula of these methods. Implementing both methods using a Matlab, creating a more convenient and user-friendly environment for engineering students and practicing engineers to better understand the formulas of his PID controller tuning method.

Abstract

Sajen Village, in Pacet District, Mojokerto, already has a Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) that is primarily involved in the management of livestock and agricultural products because has village treasury land. Farms with cows and goats are administered by cooperatives of farmers. Even though there is always a livestock supervisor on guard, one of the farm locations closest to the village hall uses makeshift lighting and has a low level of security. This is due to the limited electrical energy which is still sourced from the village hall. In addition, human resources in Sajen village also need to improve their soft skills and hard skills to develop the village and keep abreast of current issues. This initiated the idea of building an independent power plant in the livestock area as a useful energy source for village lighting and security. Off-grid system was built in the livestock area and has been successfully utilized to supply energy for the lighting and security sector in the livestock area. Off-grid systems refer to energy sources that are different from those used by the state power utility. Solar power plant also contributes a percentage of clean energy use in village areas and can be a pilot for further development.

Abstract

Electrical system power supplies always require a completely sinusoidal voltage signal. But for a variety of reasons, utilities often struggle to maintain these desired conditions. Deviations of voltage and current waveforms from a sinusoidal form are called harmonic distortions. Harmonic distortions in power networks are increasing due to the widespread use of non-linear loads. In this article we will analysis at a single-tuned passive filter and optimization using a capacitor bank. Load-current analysis determines the efficiency of the filter application by calculating the load bus voltage and total harmonic distortion (THD). To simulate the work, the Electrical Transient Analyzer Program (ETAP) software was used. This system was created specifically for this simulation and does not represent a real system. This model tests the effects of injecting harmonic currents into a power grid through a variable speed drive (VFD). The filter is attenuated with a capacitor bank.

Abstract

Induction motors consume about 60% of the energy in industry, indicating that they are an important part of the industry. Despite their sturdy construction, these induction motors are often susceptible to damage from prolonged use without maintenance. Bearing failure accounts for up to 40% of all failures and can result in serious engine damage if not treated promptly. For effective operation, this failure must be continuously monitored, otherwise it may cause serious damage to the induction motor. Normal vibration monitoring is difficult as it requires the use of expensive sensors. To detect and localize these faults, a new method of performing leakage flux analysis is widely used. In this paper, failure due to gap eccentricity is predicted by decomposing the waveform of the leakage flux spectrum using a discrete wavelet transform. The proposed method was evaluated based on the leakage flux obtained from a 1.5 kW induction motor. Experimental results have confirmed the effectiveness of the method used to detect eccentricity failures.

Abstract

Electrical conditions in the operations building and substation of the regional general hospital Dr. Saiful Anwarexperienced a power cut at optimum load, resulting in the power supply being solely obtained from the generator. The aim of the assessment carried out was to delve deeper into power quality, electrical performance, and other supporting equipment to maximize service to patients based on the assessment findings. The assessment stages utilized were the initial assessment stage and the detailed assessment stage. The analysis stages were conducted under steady-state load conditions. The assessment process involved field measurements, observations, and interviews with technical staff at the general hospital Dr. Saiful Anwar. Field measurements utilized Ammeters, Voltmeters, and Harmonic Analyzers to ascertain voltage imbalances, current imbalances, and harmonic content in SDP panels on each floor of the operations building, as well as to evaluate UPS components as backup power and stabilizers for electrical equipment. The results of observations and direct measurements in the field revealed several issues, including a current harmonic content of up to 50% on the 6th floor of the operations building (OK6) and in the Linac room, along with various other findings related to voltage and current imbalances in the secondary substation and certain components. The UPS, alike to the battery and filter capacitor inside, requires replacement. Additionally, regarding the grounding value, which currently stands at 3 Ohms, it is imperative to incorporate a parallel grounding system to bring the value below 1 Ohm to mitigate the risk of leakage current occurrences.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the initial diagnosis of damage to a 3-phase induction motor. Ball bearings are one of the important components in this induction motor which play a role in supporting the load and allowing smooth rotation. However, like all mechanical components, ball bearings in 3-phase induction motors are also susceptible to failure in motor performance and can even cause damage to the motor as a whole. There are ways to detect several disturbances in induction motors, namely through speed analysis, current fluctuations, and increases in motor temperature when operating. Based on the results of measurement data for 14 days, the average current value in normal bearing conditions is 1.36 A, while in broken bearing conditions the average current value is 1.55 A and in rusty bearing conditions 1.52 A. The increase in current is due to because the rotor does not rotate in a balanced manner so that the electric field in the stator changes, this causes an increase in the motor's current and temperature.

Abstract

The transformer is a crucial component in the electrical energy distribution system. Therefore, strict supervision is necessary to ensure that the electricity supply network is maintained and safe during operational processes. This research aims to measure the transformer load installed at PT. Sunrise Steel to determine the values of loading, imbalance, power losses, and efficiency of the loaded transformers. This measurement is important to ensure that the values resulting from operational processes do not exceed predetermined limits. Observations over 10 days show that the peak load value during operational time is 66.08%, which can still be categorized as quite good. The load imbalance reached a maximum value of 10.13%, which is categorized as poor since SPLN regulations state that a good imbalance should be below 10%. The percentage of power loss has a maximum value of 0.33%, and the best transformer efficiency reaches 97.17%, which is the highest efficiency value considering several other loss parameters.

Abstract

Controlling the speed of the permanent magnet synchronous machines plays an essential role in the industrial process and keeps the permanent magnet synchronous machines running quickly and efficiently. Even if the load changes, the rate speed of the permanent magnet synchronous machines should be adjusted to a constant speed. An excellent permanent magnet synchronous machines speed control system must respond quickly and accurately. However, in practice, rarely find a permanent magnet synchronous machines controlled to achieve a certain speed. This research presents an analysis of fuzzy logic control using seven membership functions for speed control of permanent magnet synchronous machines. Rotor speed control is performed on the rotor voltage by changing the duty cycle value. This voltage change affects the torque of the engine. Adjust the speed by changing the input voltage of the permanent magnet synchronous machines with the six-steps inverter. In the open-loop test (without control), the system cannot reach the desired setting and will only run after input from the throttle. In a closed loop (using fuzzy logic control), the system can achieve the desired setting in 90 seconds even if the setpoint is changed and can move to the setpoint.

Abstract

Distribution transformer is one of the important equipment in the distribution of electricity to consumers. The electricity demand increases every year, so that the transformer works optimally, it must also be considered regarding the loading. According to IEC 354 if the transformer is loaded stable 80% with conditions around 20℃ and the winding temperature is 98℃, but if the ambient temperature is more than 20℃ then the age of the transformer will decrease. With an average loading of 71.75%, based on the calculation that the predicted useful age of the 160 KVA distribution transformer in 2027 will have an age loss index of 1.1 p.u, so it is estimated that the remaining age of the distribution transformer is 12 years and 7 months. Analysis using a statistical approach assisted by SPSS software was also carried out to see how much influence the loading has on the age loss of the transformer.

Abstract

Coal Boiler Plant at PT. Salim Ivomas Pratama is a plant for making steam, almost all activities in the cooking oil and margarine production process utilize electrical energy, such as submersible and centrifugal electric motors with controllers, computers, AC inverters, and many others which include non-linear loads. Electrical load whose correlation between voltage and current is unbalanced, this non-linear load will result in harmonic disturbances in the electric power system which causes a reduction in the service life of electrical equipment. Harmonics are defined as voltage and current frequency distortions that are not sinusoidal from pure frequencies. This study aims to determine how effective the active filter design simulated with the PSIM Software is in reducing harmonics with a non-linear load of 3 VSD connected to a 55 kW, 0.37 kW, and 7.5 kW induction motor. The results of measurements and analysis show that there are harmonics on the panel. SDP with a current harmonic value for phase R of 26.6%, phase S of 27.5%, and phase T of 25.5%, when compared with standard harmonics, all phases exceed the standard SPLN with a standard value of 20%. Then it is necessary to reduce harmonics with an active filter, after designing andsimulating it in the PSIM software the simulation results show that the current harmonics have changed for phase R by 3.3%, phase S by 4.0%, and phase T by 3,4 %. This shows that the design of the active filter is quite effective in mitigation a harmonic, to then be applied in practice at PT. Salim Ivomas Pratama in reduction the harmonics in a coal boiler plant.
