The meaningfulness of math learning in multiplication material is still lacking. This can be seen from students who do not care when they get low results in multiplication learning and are considered boring for students. In overcoming these problems, it is necessary to have the meaningfulness of mathematics learning, one of which is through the Meaningful Instruction Design model with the help of Comics in achieving a better understanding of the concept of multiplication. The type of research used is pre-experiment with pretest-posttest one group de-sign design. The study population was 25 third grade students selected by random sampling technique with a sample of 20 students. From the results of hypothesis testing, the significance of 0.00 < 5% was obtained so that it was stated that the Meaningful Instruction Design model assisted by Comics had an effect on understanding multiplication. Based on the results of the study, students' understanding of multiplication can increase due to the implementation of the Meaningful Instruction Design model assisted by Comic media. However, in order to produce new contributions using the Meaningful Instruction De-sign model can be applied to other mathematics materials.

Abstract

Collaboration skills as part of the urgency of learning in the 21st century have a crucial position for elementary school students. The discourse on increasing research in the field of education is not in line with the lack of research that discusses students' collaboration skills to participate in groups comprehensively. This study aims to fill this gap by exploring the initial condition of collaboration skills of 126 grade IV students in three elementary schools in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta in depth. The researcher detailed the results of the case study analysis on students' collaboration skills in elementary school. One hundred and twenty-six grade IV students in three elementary schools in Sleman district were selected for observation. Semi-structured observations, semi-structured interviews, and several documents are present as instruments to collect data on initial conditions related to students' collaboration skills. The results show the need to develop students' collaboration skills through learning media innovations that are oriented to the characteristics of diverse student learning styles. This study has implications for the importance of improving students' collaboration skills in science learning in the curriculum through learning media innovations that are tailored to the needs of students' learning styles and can provide independent learning guidelines for students in preparing themselves to face the demands of 21st century skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the improvement of cultural literacy and critical thinking skills of fifth-grade elementary school students in the PGRI Pangkatan cluster through the implementation of the FIVES learning model based on local culture. The study employed a quasi-experimental approach with a Nonequivalent Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design. The research subjects were fifth-grade students of SDN 08 Pangkatan as the experimental class and SDN 02 Pangkatan as the control class. Data were collected through a cultural literacy questionnaire and a critical thinking skills test administered during the pretest and posttest stages. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics, including Hotelling’s T² MANOVA and the Independent Samples t-test. The results indicated that the improvement in cultural literacy and critical thinking skills of students in the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. These findings suggest that the implementation of the local culture-based FIVES model is effective in simultaneously enhancing both competencies.

Abstract

The complex dynamics of Indonesia's pluralistic society necessitate innovative approaches to reconstruct Civic Education paradigms, specifically through the integration of multicultural values. This study investigates the implementation of Research-Based Learning (RBL)—operationalised through a systematic cycle of observation, data collection, analysis, conclusion, and application—as an innovative pedagogical model at Sanggar Anak Alam (SALAM). Employing a qualitative case study design, the research engaged 35 participants, comprising facilitators, students, and parents. Data were systematically gathered via in-depth interviews, participant observations, and document analysis, followed by thematic analysis and triangulation facilitated by ATLAS.ti software. The analysis yielded two primary findings: firstly, the embedding of multicultural values significantly enhances appreciation for diversity and cultivates an inclusive character amongst students; secondly, RBL effectively fosters civic competencies by actively engaging students in resolving contextualised social issues. These findings demonstrate that this model not only fortifies the internalisation of multicultural values but concurrently refines students' critical cognitive abilities, empathy, and collaborative skills. Ultimately, this framework exhibits substantial potential for adaptation within formal educational settings, thereby enriching the Civic Education curriculum to become more culturally responsive. This innovation posits a novel paradigm wherein inclusive pedagogy ensures equitable educational access, the RBL cycle refines instructional methodologies, and insights derived from non-formal education serve as a viable catalyst for fortifying institutional Civic Education.
