Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the factors that influence the exchange rate of farmers in the primary food crop subsector in Jambi Province. The scope of this study is the influence of rice and corn production in Jambi Province, prices at the rice and corn farmer levels, NPK fertilizer prices, and farm labor wages in Jambi Province. This study uses secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency and the Directorate General of Food Crops. Data collection was carried out using literature and documentation methods. Multiple regression analysis using ordinary least squares (OLS) was used to test how strong the influence of the independent variable (X) was on the dependent variable (Y). Still, data processing was operated with Eviews or SPSS software. Before testing using OLS, classical assumption tests such as multicollinearity tests, normality tests, autocorrelation tests, and heteroscedasticity tests were first carried out. The factors that influence the exchange rate of farmers in the food crop subsector in Jambi Province, namely prices at the rice farmer level, prices at the corn farmer level, rice production, and corn production, have a significant positive effect. The price of NPK fertilizer and farm laborers' wages significantly negatively affect the farmer's exchange rate. The price variables at the rice and corn farmer level and rice and corn production have a significant positive effect on the farmer's exchange rate in the food crop subsector in Jambi Province. Increasing selling prices and production can improve the Farmer's Exchange Rate in Jambi Province.

Abstract

Tungkal Ilir sub-district in West Tanjung Jabung Regency has a hereditary coconut farm. Despite being one of the central coconut sub-districts in Jambi Province, the productivity of the harvest is still low at 1 ton/ha/year (copra) and 4000 grains or 1.5 tons/ha/year (whole coconut). This low productivity causes the source of income of farmer families not only comes from coconut farming, but some are obtained from farming other commodities and non-farm work. This study aims to 1) determine the description of coconut farming in Tungkal Ilir District, 2) Knowing the income of deep coconut farming in Tungkal Ilir District, and 3) Analyzing the contribution of deep coconut farming to farmers' income in Tungkal Ilir District, West Tanjung Jabung Regency. The results showed that 1) Coconut farming is a hereditary crop cultivated in the village of Tungkal I Village and Teluk Sialang Village in Tungkal Ilir District, the average use of labor uses labor within the family and labor outside the family if needed, 2) The average production cost of coconut farming is Rp1,187,447/ha/year which consists of fixed costs of Rp80.691/ha/year and variable costs of Rp1,031,445/ha/year. The average cost of revenue amounted to Rp15,138,211 /ha/year and the income of deep coconut farming amounted to Rp14.026.076/ha/year, 3) The average contribution of coconut farming income The average coconut farm income contribution of 27% falls into the medium category (20% - 50%) which indicates that farmers are not dependent on coconut farming alone and have other sources of income to meet their needs.

Abstract

This research is based on the theory of farm household economics developed by Nakajima, modified by incorporating Miller’s concept of household investment. The aim of this study is to determine whether the Nucleus Estate Smallholder (PIR) Project has succeeded in developing farmers’ ability to invest at the household level. The research was conducted in the Sungai Bahar area, involving 100 independent smallholder respondents from the former oil palm PIR project. The collected data were processed descriptively. The findings show that during the middle period up to about two-thirds of the planting cycle, oil palm cultivation with a land area of 2 hectares still generates a surplus between revenue and costs, enabling farmers to make investments. However, after passing that period—entering the final stage of the planting cycle—there is an indication that 2-hectare oil palm farmers are no longer able to set aside income for replanting or other investments. Independent oil palm smallholders from the ex-PIR project who have successfully made investments are proven to be more resilient in maintaining oil palm plantations that have not yet been replanted, due to the availability of alternative sources of income. The findings of this study suggest that in the last phase of the planting cycle, when production decreases and maintenance expenses remain high, smallholder farmers do not have enough cash to replant. This highlights the need for state support (subsidies, soft loans, and revitalization initiatives) to keep smallholder farmers from becoming locked in a cycle of old, unproductive plantations. Furthermore, farmer empowerment programs should include household economic diversification, not simply palm oil output.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are (1) To describe the picture of diversification of coconut commodity derivative products, (2) To analyze added value and (3) To analyze the differences in added value obtained from diversification of coconut commodity derivative products in West Tanjung Jabung Regency. The data used in this study are primary data and secondary data obtained when the study was conducted. Sampling was carried out by total sampling (census) of 31 farmers. The data analysis method used is a descriptive method using the Hayami method of added value analysis aid table and the statistical test used is One Way Anova with the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows program with data on coconut commodity derivative product diversification business actors that are not the same. From the calculation, the amount of added value per production process and the profit of coconut commodity derivative products will be known and the difference between the added value obtained from the processing of diversified coconut commodity derivative products will be known. Based on the results of the study, it shows that the ratio of added value of diversified coconut commodity derivative products, namely coconut flesh raw materials (VCO) is 70.37%, coconut flesh raw materials (cooking oil) are 52.33% and coconut sap raw materials (palm sugar) are 59.64% which means that the amount of added value ratio is > 40%, then the added value is classified as high. One Way Anova test of the added value ratio between VCO products and cooking oil products has a significant value of

Abstract

This research aims to: 1) Understand the general description of lowland rice farming, 2) Analyze the influence of the use of production factors on lowland rice production. This study uses primary data. The sampling method used simple random sampling method with a total of 68 farmers as respondents. The analytical method used to describe lowland rice farming in general uses descriptive qualitative analysis, while to determine the effect of the use of production factors on lowland rice production is multiple linear regression with the Cobb-Douglas production function. Based on the results of the analysis that has been carried out, it is found that lowland rice farming in Pemayung District, Batang Hari Regency is a small-scale farming activity which aims to meet daily living needs with local seeds and the use of fertilizers and pesticides which is not yet optimal. Production factors in the form of land area, seeds, urea fertilizer, pesticides and labor have a significant effect on lowland rice production. Meanwhile, the production factor in the form of NPK fertilizer had no significant effect on lowland rice production.
