Abstract

This research was motivated by the increasing incidence of cheating behavior among students, particularly at State Senior High School at Tasikmalaya City, which reflects a low awareness of academic integrity. Cheating behavior can be influenced by various factors, such as academic pressure, peer influence, low self-confidence, weak supervision, and a lack of ethical reinforcement within the school environment. The purpose of this study was to provide a general description of students’ cheating behavior in terms of rationalization, pressure, and opportunity. This study employed a descriptive quantitative method using a questionnaire as the data collection instrument. The results showed that most students at Tasikmalaya City demonstrated a moderate level of cheating behavior. Students in the moderate category tended to rationalize their actions as a response to academic pressure, while those in the high category exhibited openness to cheating opportunities without considering ethical aspects. On the other hand, students in the low category demonstrated awareness of the importance of academic honesty. A total of 333 students participated in this study. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for schools—especially for guidance and counseling services—in designing preventive and intervention strategies to address cheating behavior that threatens academic integrity and educational quality

Abstract

This study aims to describe the levels and forms of self-injury among high school students in Tasikmalaya. A quantitative approach with a descriptive design was employed, involving 168 students from grade XI at eight public senior high schools selected through simple random sampling. The instrument used was the Deliberate Self-Harm Inventory (DSHI) developed by Gratz (2001), which demonstrated good reliability (α = 0.81). The findings showed that most participants (64.9%) were categorized as having low levels of self-injury, while 35.1% were in the moderate category, and none were in the severe category. Scratching was identified as the most common form of self-injury, followed by carving words or symbols on the skin and self-hitting. Further analysis revealed gender differences, with female students reporting significantly higher self-injury scores (M = 3.18, SD = 2.48) compared to males (M = 1.85, SD = 1.21), F(1,148) = 14.05, p < .001. Overall, the study highlights that self-injury behaviors among adolescents in Tasikmalaya tend to be at a low level but remain a concerning issue, particularly among female students. Preventive efforts and school-based counseling interventions are recommended to address this behavior.

Abstract

Grief is an emotional experience that arises from significant loss and can affect the psychological well-being of adolescents, particularly those living in orphanages. In this context, mental toughness serves as a protective factor that plays an important role in helping adolescents manage emotional stress and adapt to challenging situations. This study aims to analyze the correlation between grief levels measured using the Prolonged Grief Disorder Revised (PGD-R13) and mental toughness measured using the Mental Toughness Scale (SKM-24) among orphanage adolescents. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The findings indicate that a portion of the adolescents fell into the normal grief category, while others showed symptoms of syndromal grief and prolonged grief. Regarding mental toughness, most adolescents were in the moderate category, although a significant proportion scored low on the control and confidence dimensions. Correlation analysis revealed a negative relationship between grief levels and mental toughness, indicating that the higher the grief symptoms experienced by the adolescents, the lower their level of mental toughness. These findings suggest that experiences of loss and instability in caregiving environments influence adolescents’ ability to manage psychological distress and maintain adaptive functioning. This study highlights the importance of interventions focused on strengthening emotion regulation, enhancing self-confidence, and providing psychological support to help orphanage adolescents cope with grief while improving their mental toughness.

Abstract

Flourishing and quality of life are two important indicators of positive mental health that determine students’ ability to adapt to academic demands and psychosocial development. This study aims to analyze the relationship between flourishing and quality of life among university students. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design with a correlational approach, the study involved 660 students from three universities and measured flourishing and quality of life using standardized instruments. The analysis results show that flourishing has a significant positive relationship with quality of life (r = 0.616), with dimensions such as meaning, relationships, and accomplishment contributing the most to various QoL domains. These findings emphasize that the higher the level of flourishing among students, the better their perceived quality of life. Overall, the study highlights the urgency of developing positive psychology–based programs to enhance student well-being in higher education settings.

Abstract

Public speaking ability is not without its challenges. One of the most common challenges is public speaking anxiety. Public speaking anxiety is a social communication disorder characterized by feelings of fear and worry when speaking in front of a large audience. This study utilized an experimental research design with a single-case research design (SCRD) using an A-B-A pattern to determine the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Behavior Counseling in reducing public speaking anxiety. The subjects of this study consisted of three students (N=3) who experienced severe public speaking anxiety and held irrational beliefs. The REBT intervention was provided in six sessions. Data were collected before, during, and after the intervention using the Nonoverlap of All Pairs (NAP) calculation to measure the effectiveness of the intervention. The results of this study showed a significant reduction in public speaking anxiety scores following the implementation of REBT counseling. This was evidenced by the effect size and RCI (Reliable Change Index) scores, which indicated significant and reliable changes. Thus, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy was proven to be effective in reducing public speaking anxiety.

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of classical guidance based on a mindful self-compassion program on improving adolescents’ quality of life. Employing a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design, the intervention was delivered over a six-week period, with each session lasting approximately 45 to 60 minutes. Participants completed the Adolescent Quality of Life Inventory (AQoLI) prior to and following the intervention. A total of 21 participants took part in both the pre- and post-intervention assessments. The findings revealed a significant improvement in overall quality of life, with a large effect size observed (d = 0.62). Additionally, notable improvements were identified in specific domains, including self-functioning (d = 0.49), social functioning (d = 0.47), and personal growth (d = 0.67). These results support the initial hypothesis that participants would experience enhanced quality of life following the intervention. While these findings are promising, the study's limitations should be noted. The small sample size and absence of a control group constrain the generalizability of the results. Further research employing randomized controlled trial designs and follow-up assessments is warranted to confirm the efficacy of mindful self-compassion programs in promoting adolescents’ quality of life

Abstract

Prescription drug abuse is a serious issue in the field of mental health, impacting various aspects of an individual's life, including psychological dimensions such as irrational beliefs. This study aims to explore the manifestation of irrational beliefs in individuals with prescription drug addiction. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study design. The research involved two participants who had experienced prescription drug addiction and undergone a rehabilitation process. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and then analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that the participants held irrational beliefs in the form of negative self-perceptions, a belief that drugs are the solution to all problems, and intolerance to emotional discomfort. These beliefs were shaped by past experiences, environmental influences, and a lack of emotional support. The findings emphasize the importance of cognitive interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in addressing irrational beliefs as part of the recovery process from addiction.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of ambiguous loss among college students. A quantitative approach with a descriptive design was employed. The sample consisted of 277 students selected through purposive sampling. The Ambiguous Loss Inventory Plus (ALI+) was used to identify the forms and levels of ambiguous loss experienced by the participants. The findings indicate that most students fell into the low (43.68%) and moderate (29.24%) categories, while the remaining participants were classified into the high (16.61%) and very high (10.47%) categories. In terms of psychological reactions, the highest scores were observed in the dimensions of intrusive and acute emotions, perceptual distortions and difficulties in adaptation, as well as impacts on the self and social relationships. These results suggest that although the majority of students experience relatively low levels of ambiguous loss, the emotional and cognitive impacts remain notably significant.
