Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to assist the recovery of social activities and address the crisis of electricity and clean water following the flash floods in Pesisir Selatan Regency, particularly in Kampung Langgai and Barung-Barung Balantai Health Center, which were the most severely affected areas. The methods employed included conducting a needs assessment survey of the affected communities, procuring and installing a 5.5 kW generator set at Nurul Wahidah Mosque as a social center, distributing ten solar-powered lamps to residents’ homes, and rehabilitating the clean water system at the health center by replacing the water pump and installing new piping networks from the ring well and Pamsimas sources. Additionally, training was provided on the operation and maintenance of electrical equipment, along with socialization on the importance of clean water to prevent post-flood diseases. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in access to electricity and clean water in the affected areas. The mosque resumed its function as a center for social activities, homes and roads received adequate lighting, and health services at the health center became fully operational again. The conclusion of this activity is that appropriate technology-based interventions, such as the provision of generator sets, solar lamps, and water filtration system repairs, are effective in supporting post-disaster recovery and enhancing community resilience. The sustainability of the program can be strengthened through regular training and cross-sector collaboration to build resilient infrastructure in disaster-prone areas.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to improve irrigation efficiency and reduce farmers' dependence on rain-fed water through the implementation of solar-powered pumping technology in Nagari Tanjung Barulak, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The program adopted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, actively engaging farmers in the planning, installation, training, and evaluation of the irrigation system. The intervention included the installation of a 25 kWp solar-powered pumping system equipped with photovoltaic (PV) panels and a DC submersible pump, followed by operational and maintenance training for approximately 30 farmers. The results demonstrated that the system was capable of irrigating approximately 100 hectares of agricultural land on a rotational basis, increasing irrigation water availability by up to 60% compared with previous conditions. In addition, irrigation operating costs were reduced by approximately 40% due to decreased reliance on fossil fuels. Farmers' knowledge and technical skills also improved substantially, with 85% of participants able to operate the system independently after completing the training. The program produced a fully functional solar-powered pumping system, practical training modules, and a community-based irrigation management group to ensure long-term sustainability. Overall, the findings indicate that implementing solar-powered irrigation through a participatory approach is an effective strategy for enhancing irrigation efficiency, lowering production costs, and strengthening farmers' capacity to manage water resources independently. The program offers a scalable and sustainable model that can be replicated in other regions with similar environmental and socio-economic characteristics.

Abstract

The purpose of the activity is to educate the Women Farmers Group to have the knowledge and skills about galo galo honey cultivation (Trigona sp) and the establishment of a Family Medicinal Plant Garden in Nagari Tiumang, Tiumang District, Dharmasraya Regency. The implementation method for each activity is carried out in several systematic stages, namely the socialization stage, the demonstration plot stage and the mentoring stage. The results of Galo galo (Trigona sp) cultivation education activities are Women Farmers Group already has knowledge and skills on Galo galo cultivation, already has 4 Galo galo honey colonies, 2 colonies for the Trigona Itema type and 2 colonies for the Trigona Minangkabau type, where 2 colonies of the Trigona Itema type have been harvested and produce honey production as much as 250-300 grams / colony. In addition, Women Farmers Group and the community also have a 15 m x 25 m Family Medicinal Plants garden which contains 5 types of medicinal plants, such as Ginger (Zingiber officinale), Turmeric (Curcuma longa), Curcumalonga (Curcuma xanthorrhiza), Aloe vera (Aloe vera) and Betel Leaf (Piper betle). Conclusion is this service activity has gone well where the target already has a Galo galo honey (Trigona sp) business and a Toga garden, so that it will be able to realize the occurrence of independence and empowerment in the community, especially for members of Women Farmers Group orchids and the community in Nagari Tiumang, Dharmasraya Regency.
