Abstract

Abstract

Background: Hypertensive crisis poses a high risk for long-term cardiovascular complications, and management focuses on controlled blood pressure (BP) reduction rather than immediate normalization. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of sublingual and oral captopril in reducing BP among patients with hypertensive urgency. Methods: A literature review was conducted using English-language studies published after 2012 that evaluated BP reduction outcomes of sublingual versus oral captopril. Results: Three relevant studies met the inclusion criteria, comparing both administration routes in hypertensive urgency management. All studies demonstrated that sublingual and oral captopril were similarly effective in lowering systolic and diastolic BP within the first few hours after administration. Sublingual captopril consistently produced a faster onset of action, with BP reduction observed within 15–30 minutes, whereas oral administration required 30–60 minutes to achieve comparable effects. None of the studies reported significant differences in adverse effects between the two routes. These findings suggest that while overall efficacy is comparable, the sublingual route provides more rapid BP control, which may be crucial in acute care settings. Conclusion: Both sublingual and oral captopril are effective options for hypertensive urgency, with the sublingual form offering a faster therapeutic response suitable for rapid BP reduction in emergency situations.

Abstract

Mental health problems have become an unresolved health problem in the midst of society, both at the global and national levels. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health problems will be increasingly difficult to solve. The increasingly worrying condition of people's mental health will affect national productivity. According to WHO, mental health refers to a person's well-being condition, when a person is aware of his or her abilities, is able to manage his or her stress and adapts well, can work productively, and contributes to his environment. Current technological developments also affect mental health, including the use of gadgets. Gadgets make it easy to access information, communicate with others, and do various online activities. However, excessive use of gadgets can have a negative impact on the mental and physical health of users, especially at the age of children and adolescents, The influence of gadgets can result in children being hampered in interacting even in the family environment, easily bored and difficult to concentrate, especially in learning, and interfering with their cognitive development. According to a survey in Indonesia according to Research by Kominfo and the United Nations Children's Fund (2014), the use of social media and digital is an integrated part of the daily life of young people in Indonesia. The study found that 98% of the children and adolescents surveyed knew about the internet and that 79.5% of them were internet users. In addition, there are still few parents who supervise their children when accessing the internet or playing layer media. Prevention and handling of metal health disorders due to the use of gadgets requires the role of various parties, including government policies, parents and families, and the role of the school environment. Socialization in the environment around children, especially schools, is one of the keys.

Abstract

Mental health problems have become unresolved health problems in society, both at the global and national levels. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health problems will be more difficult to solve. The increasingly concerning condition of people's mental health will affect national productivity. This could hinder Indonesia from transitioning into a developed country by 2045. Mental health services are crucial and require the same attention as physical health. According to the Indonesia-National Adolescent Mental Health Survey 2022, 15.5 million (34.9 percent) adolescents experience mental problems and 2.45 million (5.5 percent) adolescents experience mental disorders. Of that number, only 2.6 percent accessed counseling services, both emotional and behavioral. The government has been thinking about mental health, but it has not been a priority. Access to mental health services is expensive and not inclusive. Meanwhile, attention to mental and physical health has not been equal in national health insurance. In Indonesia, we know many cases of adolescents aged 15-17 who experience excessive anxiety resulting in depression and suicide.

Abstract

Adolescent health screening is an important strategy for the early detection of common health problems among school-aged students. This activity was conducted through an academic collaboration between the Institut Kesehatan Helvetia (IKH) Medan, Indonesia, and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia, as part of an international community engagement program. The health screening program implemented at SMP Amanah 1 included anthropometric measurements, blood pressure assessment, personal hygiene evaluation, nutritional status assessment, and identification of basic health complaints. The purpose of this activity was to obtain an overview of students’ health status while simultaneously increasing their awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyle behaviors. The program was carried out using a structured approach involving direct physical examinations, brief interviews, and health education sessions. The screening results indicated that a proportion of students were still at risk of nutritional problems and exhibited unhealthy lifestyle habits. International academic collaboration enhanced the quality of the screening process through the exchange of examination practices and educational approaches. This activity is expected to serve as a promotive–preventive model that can be implemented in other school settings. Overall, the screening program made a meaningful contribution to efforts to improve adolescent health, increased students’ understanding of the importance of regular health monitoring, and strengthened teachers’ capacity to support healthy habits at school. Furthermore, the screening findings may serve as a basis for developing more targeted follow-up health interventions. Thus, health screening based on international collaboration has significant potential to strengthen adolescent health in the long term.

Abstract

Abstract
