Abstract

The Maritime Santri School (SENTRIMAR) is a pesantren-based environmental education model designed to enhance students’ literacy and awareness of sustainable maritime issues. Implemented at Al-Anwari Superior Islamic Junior High School in Banyuwangi, the program leverages its proximity to Santen Island’s coastline as a natural laboratory for experiential learning. Core activities included environmental socialization, mangrove and sea pandanus planting, beach clean-up, and turtle hatchling release, conducted over five months with participatory methods and intensive mentoring. Program evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure students’ understanding of maritime environmental concepts. The average pre-test score was 56, which significantly increased to 86 in the post-test. This improvement demonstrates the effectiveness of community-based and hands-on educational approaches in fostering ecological awareness among students. SENTRIMAR not only reinforces pesantren values such as discipline and responsibility but also equips participants with relevant conservation knowledge and skills to address contemporary environmental challenges.

Abstract

The application of sandwich plates in marine structures offers a lightweight yet strong alternative to conventional steel plates. This study investigates how far the spacing between stiffeners can be widened on barge decks using 5-15-5 mm sandwich plates, without exceeding the allowable stress limit. The analysis was conducted using the finite element method (FEM) via ANSYS Student R2 2024. Variations of stiffener spacing tested were 610 mm (32 stiffeners), 762 mm (24 stiffeners), 1016 mm (16 stiffeners), 1524 mm (8 stiffeners), and one model without stiffeners . The simulation results show that all models with stiffeners up to 1524 mm meet the allowable stress limit of 175 MPa according to Lloyd's Register. However, the model without stiffeners exceeds the limit and is deemed unsafe. Deformation analysis also reveals that maximum deflection tends to occur on the portside, especially in areas unsupported by beams or girders. As the stiffener spacing increases, the deformation also increases and shifts due to edge effects and support asymmetry. Additionally, using sandwich plates results in a significant weight reduction compared to conventional steel construction—ranging from 23.13% to 32.83%, depending on the spacing. Based on these findings, a stiffener spacing of up to 1524 mm is considered optimal in maintaining structural safety while reducing weight.

Abstract

Abstract

The Dharma Kencana V passenger ship is a type of crossing ship owned by a Japanese shipping company which was later acquired by an Indonesia shipping company whose planned shipping route crosses from Surabaya to Makassar. With the transfer of the ship’s shipping route, repairs and the addition of new construction in the deck A area were carried out so that the addition of the new construction increased the load the ship received. This study aims to determine the allowable stress allowed by the Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI) Rules for Hull 2022 [1] from the stress results due to new construction on the deck. The analysis was carried out using the finite element method with numerical modeling using Ansys Static Structure student version software with a division of elements (meshing) size 200 mm on deck A frame 13 to 85. Based on the results of the element division of deck KM. Dharma Kencana V into 44767 elements at nodes 45384 and the maximum stress at 77.41 MPa. The allowable stress limit based on the BKI standard does not exceed 230 MPa, [1] so a safety factor of 2.97 is obtained so it can be concluded that the strength of the construction of deck A KM. Dharma Kencana V is still a safe category.

Abstract

Botanical pesticides are naturally occurring chemicals derived from plant sources such as leaves, flowers, roots or seeds. This material has the potential as a more environmentally friendly and sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides. In general, residents in Mangaran Village, Mangaran District, Situbondo Regency work as farmers. In controlling pests and plant diseases, chemical pesticides are usually used to overcome them. The negative impact of using chemical pesticides is that pests will become increasingly resistant to the pesticides given, so stronger pesticides are needed the stronger the attacking pests. This resulted in an increasing number of chemicals in the crops that farmers planted which had an impact on the health of both farmers and consumers. The purpose of this socialization regarding vegetable pesticides is to increase knowledge regarding the manufacture of natural pesticides to control pests and diseases in plants. The socialization and training that was carried out received enthusiasm from farmers and those who attended the socialization were 26 farmers represented by each hamlet. The socialization results obtained are encouraging farmers to produce vegetable pesticides and reduce dependence on chemical pesticides
