Abstract

Background Pregnant women are a group of people prone to anemia which is characterized by a decrease in hemoglobin levels, one of the causes of which is iron deficiency in the body. Low absorption of iron in the body can be caused by poor diet, frequency of meals, and amount and type of food consumed. Adequate consumption of animal and plant foods can increase iron intake in the body. One chicken egg contains 6.3 mg of iron in the yolk and 0.2 mg in the egg white. This study aims to determine differences in hemoglobin levels in third-trimester pregnant women before and after consuming boiled chicken eggs. Methods The research was conducted using a quasi-experimental design method with a one-group pretest post-test design approach. The results showed that the average hemoglobin level before consuming boiled chicken eggs was around 11.5 g/dL and the hemoglobin level after finishing boiled chicken eggs was 12.7 g/dL and based on the t-test results, the p-value < 0.001 means differences in hemoglobin levels before and after consuming boiled domestic chicken eggs in third-trimester pregnant women. Keywords: Domestic chicken egg, hemoglobin, pregnant women.

Abstract

The culture medium functions to provide nutrition and as a place for microorganisms to grow optimally. The price of agar media is expensive and quite difficult to reach, making examination of microorganisms in the laboratory expensive. This can be overcome by using alternative media that are easy to obtain. One example of a natural ingredient that can be used as an alternative medium is jackfruit seeds which are then processed into flour. Jackfruit seeds can be used as an alternative ingredient because they contain nutrients, namely carbohydrates. The aim of this research was to see the effectiveness of jackfruit seed flour for the growth of the Aspergillus niger fungus. The type of research used is descriptive by describing the growth of the Aspergillus niger fungus on alternative agar media, namely jackfruit seed flour. . After data collection, the data is then processed using a tabulating stage which is presented in table form by showing the growth of the Aspergillus niger fungus macroscopically and microscopically using 10x and 40x magnification which is then grouped based on positive and negative categories.

Abstract

The national blood demand is estimated to reach around 5.5 million bags per year, while the available blood supply is only around 4.1 million bags. This results in a significant annual blood shortage, approximately 1.4 million bags. The root cause of the main problem of unmet blood needs lies in the lack of public awareness. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase public education and awareness about the importance of blood donation and the high demand for blood. Activities include counseling and blood type testing of the ABO and Rh systems using the slide test method. The examination results show that the most common blood type found in Lampegan Village is type O, while the least common is type B. Almost all of them have Rh-positive blood type, and Rh-negative was found in one resident. Knowing the exact blood type and adopting a healthy lifestyle can help someone become a blood donor. Blood type testing is a persuasive strategy to raise public awareness about the importance of blood types and the benefits of blood donation.

Abstract

Critical values in an examination indicate a disorder that requires special and rapid action to improve patient safety. Urea examination is one of the laboratory parameters that functions as an indicator in assessing the level of kidney function. Urea levels are considered critical if the results exceed 100 mg/dl. This study aims to understand how to handle critical values in urea examinations. This study describes a case in the field of clinical chemistry related to critical results obtained from urea examinations. The object of the case study used in this study was a serum sample, with data showing a critical urea level of 185 mg/dl. Based on the confirmation results, this figure is in accordance with the condition of patients who have kidney failure and will undergo hemodialysis therapy. The conclusion of this study shows that handling critical values in urea examinations is carried out by identifying patient identity and ensuring good sample quality. In addition, the sample testing process must be carried out carefully and precisely, control results must be optimal, the reagents used must have the appropriate temperature and not expired, and the equipment must be properly maintained and calibrated. Finally, confirmation and reporting of results must be carried out accurately and on time.
