Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia due to impaired insulin secretion, insulin receptor sensitivity and/or both. Hyperglycemia can trigger oxidative stress conditions that can increase the risk of micro and macrovascular complications. Preventive efforts need to be done such as giving supplements and traditional therapies that have low side effects, namely magnesium and insulin leaves. This research is experimental type with post test only control group. The samples in this study were 30 male wistar rats weighing 170-300g which had healthy conditions adapted for 7 days, given standard feed and given ad libitum drinking water. The results showed that the glucose level in the treatment group 3 when compared to the negative control group had a percentage decrease of 26.49%. LDL and MDA levels were lower in the combination treatment group of magnesium and insulin leaves when compared to the negative control group. The ANOVA results showed that there was a significant difference between the groups in the glucose test results (p < 0.05), and there was no significant difference between the groups in the LDL and MDA results (p > 0.05). The conclusion of this study was that the best results when compared to negative controls were the combination of magnesium at a dose of 300 mg and insulin leaves at a dose of 300 mg/KgBB had a decreased percentage of LDL levels by 52.38% and MDA levels of 29.11%, while for glucose levels the combination of magnesium doses 300 mg and insulin leaves 75 mg/KgBW had a percentage reduction of 26.49%

Abstract

Abstract

The culture medium functions to provide nutrition and as a place for microorganisms to grow optimally. The price of agar media is expensive and quite difficult to reach, making examination of microorganisms in the laboratory expensive. This can be overcome by using alternative media that are easy to obtain. One example of a natural ingredient that can be used as an alternative medium is jackfruit seeds which are then processed into flour. Jackfruit seeds can be used as an alternative ingredient because they contain nutrients, namely carbohydrates. The aim of this research was to see the effectiveness of jackfruit seed flour for the growth of the Aspergillus niger fungus. The type of research used is descriptive by describing the growth of the Aspergillus niger fungus on alternative agar media, namely jackfruit seed flour. . After data collection, the data is then processed using a tabulating stage which is presented in table form by showing the growth of the Aspergillus niger fungus macroscopically and microscopically using 10x and 40x magnification which is then grouped based on positive and negative categories.

Abstract

Examination of sperm morphology is an essential criterion for evaluating male fertility. This examination can be done by staining sperm cells with various techniques to facilitate the visualization of sperm cells. Several other methods that can be used to evaluate sperm morphology are Eosin-nigrosin, AgNO3 staining, Papanicolaou, Diff Quick and Giemsa. However, using these synthetic dyes can harm the environment and water sources because they prefer to decompose. The natural dye derived from environmentally friendly plants expected to minimize hazardous waste. This study aimed to identify and compare the potency of several natural dyes derived from purple cabbage, sappan wood and beetroot, which have not been studied in sperm studies. Sperm obtained from 30 men in the campus area and underwent 3-5 days of abstinence from intercourse in preparation for sampling. The sperm stained with natural dye, and their quality compared with WHO standard Papanicolaou. Extracts of sappan wood, purple cabbage and beetroot are made with various mordant alum, ethanol and acetic acid compositions. The study's results showed that the presence of mordant increased the staining quality of sperm with sappan wood and purple cabbage extracts. The use of acid improves the quality of sperm staining with beet extract. There was no different between dyeing with beetroot extract in various solvent compositions and dyeing with Papanicolaou to color all sperm components (p> 0.05). The results showed that beetroot extract has a high potential to evaluate sperm morphology.
