Abstract

Teachers may not always obtain professional training to improve themselves. Frequently, they have to learnby themselves, explore ways by their own, and do some trials and errors. They can be successful or fail. They have to do their own learning journey. This frequently happens when teachers have to work with ICT.The flourish, popularity and reputation of ICT in education seem very appealing, but at the same timeprovide new challenges. The Interactivity, creativity, affection, cognition, speed and transferability featuresof ICT may tempt teachers to use it in their teaching. However, teachers may face difficulty when they haveto change by adopting new technology, but they do not know what to do, where to start and who can or willhappily help them, especially when other teachers are busy with their own works. This indicates that thecoming of ICT bring joy, but also difficulty for teachers. This ICT learning difficulties/challenges areheightened by the nature of ICT which changes and expands rapidly. In this study, I intend to express myreflection on my own teaching practice and my analysis on one of my colleagues teaching experience in ourICT self-learning: what issues we encounter, what we obtain and miss in our learning journey, and whataspects affect our learning. We find that professional help for teachers does not always come when it isneeded. There are many times when teachers should face their teaching field independently (withoutprofessional training). However, we find that embedding ICT into teaching-learning now becomes not onlya trend, but also a need. To do this, teachers should be explorative, adaptive and reflective learners. Thereare many challenges that we have to face during the learning process which relate to teacher, students andenvironment aspects which require us to do exploratory, experiential and social learning. Genuine learningmay come from self-learning on what we need in our teaching practice and observation on whatenvironment provides or not provide for our learning.

Abstract

EFL education shifts from teaching language core competences into promoting communicative competence and developing multiliteracies pedagogy. Through this learning mode, EFL learners can develop language, interpersonal communication, inter-cultural understanding as well as life learning skills. Group work learning assisted by technology use in EFL classroom is one of many approaches to equip EFL learners with such skills. During the process of learning in groups, EFL students experience and potentially learn social skills through their group dynamics. This study aims to explore group dynamic aspects in EFL learning: what the students experience and learn. The study adopts qualitative research methods. The data are collected through students’ narrative texts revealing their experiences in working in groups to create video. The study finds that in accomplishing group tasks, the students are learning some aspects. The first is the identification process, in which they are aligning themselves to the shared identity, emotion, goals, character of groups (self to group identification) as well as group to self identification. The second aspect is the students are learning cooperatively and collaboratively in team development process. The third aspect is learning leadership and organizational management, in which they are learning structure, norms, rules and social system in group.

Abstract

The success and failure of a destination tend to rest on its’ capacity to satisfy the visitors. Listening to visitors’ appraisal and voices is vital in community-based tourism development. This study aims to explore WPP Dalegan visitors’ voices. The data are collected through Dalegan visitors’ online reviews and direct observation. The study finds that Dalegan has a high competitive advantage as family recreational destination as it is cheap, reachable, accessible, has various local-traditional-cheap food, beautiful calm beach and soft white sand as a playing and learning ground for children. Despite its’ comfortable image, some visitors voice unsatisfied services, facilities, nature-caused and human-caused threats. The study also illuminates that Dalegan destination branding is not only influenced by its’ capacity to attract visitors by its’ beautiful marine nature, but also local community characters, community education and values. The study indicates that to develop tourism destination, local potentials are not the only determinant keys. It needs to be supported by other determining factors. One of those factors is tourists’ voices on their impression, comments, satisfaction and dissatisfaction feelings. Linking potential resources of destination and tourists’ meaningful experience can be challenging as different tourists may have different perspectives, wants and satisfaction-dissatisfaction levels.

Abstract

Women are often seen as inferior to males in the community. Their occupations are limited to domestic duties such as caring for the family and making sure that everyday necessities are met. Despite their undervalued values, women continue to play a critical role in guaranteeing the welfare of the community, the well-being of the family, and the healthy development of the children. Nowadays, many women are joining the workforce, taking on leadership positions and taking part in a variety of community activities. This demonstrates the importance of women as contributors to society and the need to develop women's potential. Therefore, the study's goal is to investigate factors facilitating women's spiritual empowerment for treating female corpses. The study is focused on women empowerment at Desa Punggul by adopting qualitative method. The data are collected through participant direct observation and facilitating team's documentation, which are collected during community service program. The collected data are analyzed by using thematic analysis method. The study finds that women spiritual empowerment at Desa Punggul are enabled by two main factors. The first factor is the contribution of women organization (PKK). The women's organization promotes women's development in three areas: cognition (improving women's skills and knowledge, learning, or participating in decision-making, collaborating, and organizing community events), affection (boosting women's self-efficacy, self-worth, and strengthening women's mentality), and social (expanding social roles, establishing wider social relationships, and gaining support from their peers). The second component is the encouragement of a welcoming, cooperative, tolerant, engaging, and inclusive environment or community.

Abstract

Agritourism is currently thriving as many modern visitors favor returning to rural nature over visiting metropolitan destinations. This evolving tendency might stoke locals' enthusiasm to start and develop agri-based tourism by using their farms, gardens, and other physical natural assets for both primary and secondary employment, such as by opening their properties up as agri-tourism destinations. These activities may improve the local population's ability to support themselves and their well-being as tourism has the potential to have multiplier effects. The growth of agritourism, however, might not be entirely dependent on a destination's natural or environmental resources. By using its cultural potential, it can instead be strengthened. The purpose of the research is to investigate how culture and community creativity can improve agritourism. The study is carried out at Lumbung Strawberry Tourism in Batu, Malang. The study finds that culture, when combined with natural resources, may support the growth of agritourism by enhancing the ethno-authenticity of the destination, highlighting its distinctiveness, communicating it, fostering locals' creativity, fostering innovation, boosting its popularity, and facilitating marketing. Along with utilizing its local rural agriculture, Lumbung Strawberry embraces the current of digital culture by creating destination Instagram accounts and offering locations for taking selfies and pictures.

Abstract

As a collection of individuals who work together to achieve organizational goals, the organization urgently needs glue which attaches all members. Existing studies find that organizational culture can be a means to provoke collectivism climate for influencing organizational performance. The study aims to examine the potential capacity of organizational rituals of arisan and picnic in evoking organizational social cohesion, from the perspective of organizational members. Furthermore, it aims to explore the other possible functions of organizational culture. The data are collected from co-reflection by using certain reflection guidance. The study finds that organizational arisan or picnic can potentially benefit members. It provides opportunities for members to share happy moments, face challenging activities together, forget their conflict and replace it with new happy experiences. However, this ritual does not always bring genuine happiness. It may keep silent storm of emotion as the ritual can exert social pressure, display dominant social status, reinforce power of giving which acquire needs to get back (return the kindness). The study also reveals the emergent co-rituals which are created or joined by in-group members. Co-exist rituals allow members to fit their individual-group dimensions with less social pressure, build stronger emotional bond and support. However, this too strong emotional tie may ignite inter-group conflict and high competition with other groups.

Abstract

Teaching English language can be dilemmatic since English teachers should introduce foreign culture and sustain their own students culture. Todays students are the future leaders. Thus, it is vital for the English teachers to introduce global culture and local-national culture. This study aims to explore our own experiences at school and higher education levels, in managing culture in our EFL practices: which cultural elements should be sustained, how, why and what the challenges are. The data are collected from our experience-based reflection. The study indicates that English language teachers play a meta-role as cultural managers. They are selecting, infusing, inventing ways to teach culture through various approaches: materials, social interaction, classroom routines and artefacts. However, this process can be impeded by the disruptive technology, students, teachers own and organizational factors. Thus, this cultural managing role is influenced by organization, technology, learners adaptation process and teachers own cultural awareness and understanding.
