Abstract

The success and failure of a destination tend to rest on its’ capacity to satisfy the visitors. Listening to visitors’ appraisal and voices is vital in community-based tourism development. This study aims to explore WPP Dalegan visitors’ voices. The data are collected through Dalegan visitors’ online reviews and direct observation. The study finds that Dalegan has a high competitive advantage as family recreational destination as it is cheap, reachable, accessible, has various local-traditional-cheap food, beautiful calm beach and soft white sand as a playing and learning ground for children. Despite its’ comfortable image, some visitors voice unsatisfied services, facilities, nature-caused and human-caused threats. The study also illuminates that Dalegan destination branding is not only influenced by its’ capacity to attract visitors by its’ beautiful marine nature, but also local community characters, community education and values. The study indicates that to develop tourism destination, local potentials are not the only determinant keys. It needs to be supported by other determining factors. One of those factors is tourists’ voices on their impression, comments, satisfaction and dissatisfaction feelings. Linking potential resources of destination and tourists’ meaningful experience can be challenging as different tourists may have different perspectives, wants and satisfaction-dissatisfaction levels.

Abstract

Two diverging geography-oriented Policy development paradigms have been prevailing within the discourse of Indonesian context, namely land and maritime-oriented paradigms. The two paradigms often emerge in ideological discourses that predispose national identity. Throughout the Indonesia’s history, discourses on development paradigms seems to alternate between two paradigms. However, since 2014, maritime paradigm has taken a dominant role in the Indonesian discourses. This paper propose empirical data associated with the environmental, economic and social conditions of Segara Anakan, Central of Java, we show how the land paradigm has resulted in undesirable consequences. Segara Anakan is a coastal region in which various communities have for decades developed economic activities. Major environmental damages in the region have been reported and social conflicts have occurred unresolved. Instead of choosing between land and maritime paradigms, in this paper we propose a more ecological-oriented development framework that is based on actor-network theory. we emphasis key measures: registering relevant heterogeneous entities, including human actors, social groups, small islands, straits, ocean inhabitants, etc; consultations that involve various spoke-persons. We argue in the paper that both land and maritime paradigms are too macro in their scope to tackle heterogeneities and complexities at the regional scopes.

Abstract

As a collection of individuals who work together to achieve organizational goals, the organization urgently needs glue which attaches all members. Existing studies find that organizational culture can be a means to provoke collectivism climate for influencing organizational performance. The study aims to examine the potential capacity of organizational rituals of arisan and picnic in evoking organizational social cohesion, from the perspective of organizational members. Furthermore, it aims to explore the other possible functions of organizational culture. The data are collected from co-reflection by using certain reflection guidance. The study finds that organizational arisan or picnic can potentially benefit members. It provides opportunities for members to share happy moments, face challenging activities together, forget their conflict and replace it with new happy experiences. However, this ritual does not always bring genuine happiness. It may keep silent storm of emotion as the ritual can exert social pressure, display dominant social status, reinforce power of giving which acquire needs to get back (return the kindness). The study also reveals the emergent co-rituals which are created or joined by in-group members. Co-exist rituals allow members to fit their individual-group dimensions with less social pressure, build stronger emotional bond and support. However, this too strong emotional tie may ignite inter-group conflict and high competition with other groups.

Abstract

When academic integrity is maintained not only in the framework of education but also in professionals’ lives, educational institutions have a moral commitment to generate graduates of high quality for the greater community. Graduates are expected to be both competent and ethical in their professional lives. This study builds on previous academic integrity research to delve into students’ ethical decision-making in real-world situations. During regular class time, undergraduate students from public and private universities in Surabaya, Indonesia, were surveyed (N=496). Using a two-sample t-test approach, the current study found students’ perceptions of their ethical perspective and situations in the workplace differed from their perceptions of themselves in current academic environment. This finding is worrisome because students who perceive themselves as lacking moral consistency believe that they have strong ethical convictions. Even though there was evidence to back up Lawson’s claim that the usefulness of an action is more essential than its ethicality, a workplace ethical decision reveals an anomaly in the operation of ethical decision-making. This study highlights the significance of cultivating risk-related decision-making throughout the educational process and should be encouraged as positive stimulant that prepares students for the ethical difficulties of the professional world.

Abstract

Rural communities depend on natural resources for their livelihoods. As such, managing nature, land, and the environment is crucial. This study examines the livelihood assets and lives of the community following land compensation from a company establishing its presence in the region. This study employs purposive sampling, a method commonly used in quantitative research, to represent communities affected by industrial activity in Wadung Village, Jenu District, Tuban Regency, Indonesia. The participants consist of 30 fishermen and farmers. They filled out the survey for the primary data in this study. The findings show that land loss has significantly transformed the environmental ecosystem and the sustainability of life. This study examines five sustainable livelihood capitals—natural, social, financial, physical, and human capital. Social capital scored highest (14.78), reflecting the community's strong interpersonal networks and active community organizations. Financial capital ranked second (14.70), largely due to substantial compensation payments following land acquisition. However, these funds have led to financial management challenges, as many recipients lack financial literacy and spend compensation money on consumer goods rather than long-term investments. This spending pattern, combined with significant livelihood disruptions (including career changes and relocations after land loss), has created a need for structured financial guidance to ensure sustainable use of compensation funds.

Abstract

The prevalence of stunting in various regions of East Java, particularly in the Tuban Regency, necessitates targeted intervention. This study aimed to assess the incidence of stunting in Tuban Regency using diverse analytical methods. It utilizes geographic mapping to illustrate the spatial distribution of stunting rates, and histograms to represent the percentage of stunting across individual villages. Notably, Mander Village in Tambakboyo District exhibits the highest prevalence, with 43.59% of toddlers affected by stunting. In 2023, the average stunting rate across the Tuban Regency was 11.53% per village, with a median of 9.69%. Alarmingly, over half of the villages failed to meet the 2024 RPJMN target, and 112 of 328 communities (34.15%) reported stunting rates exceeding 14%. Furthermore, the analysis revealed a Moran's I value of 0.216 and a p-value of 0.001, indicating significant geographical clustering of stunting cases within the region. This suggests that the prevalence of stunted toddlers in each village is influenced by similar rates in neighboring communities, highlighting the importance of a collaborative approach in addressing this public health challenge.
