Abstract

The ongoing land-use conversion in Banjarbaru City has significantly reduced agricultural areas, potentially threatening local food availability and the achievement of food security. This study aims to identify the distribution of idle land and assess its potential utilization as an alternative for agricultural development in urban areas. The methodology integrates drone imagery for mapping uncultivated land, agricultural and biophysical statistical data, and community perception surveys to evaluate readiness and constraints in managing idle land. The results show that idle lands are spread across all districts, with the highest concentration in South Banjarbaru and Landasan Ulin. These areas exhibit high potential for the development of horticultural crops and lowland rice cultivation, although technical interventions such as soil rehabilitation and improved water access are required. In conclusion, optimizing the utilization of idle land in Banjarbaru City can serve as an effective strategy to enhance local food production and strengthen area-based food security.

Abstract

Penyakit virus pada tanaman padi merupakan ancaman serius bagi ketahanan pangan di berbagai wilayah, termasuk Desa Penggalaman Kalimantan Selatan. Program pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan kepada petani dalam pembuatan pestisida nabati dan Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) sebagai solusi yang ramah lingkungan untuk mengendalikan penyakit tanaman. Pelatihan dilaksanakan secara partisipatif di Desa Penggalaman, melibatkan penyampaian teori, demonstrasi, dan praktik langsung oleh para peserta. Fokus pelatihan adalah pada pembuatan pestisida nabati dari bahan-bahan lokal yang mudah diperoleh di lingkungan desa serta produksi dan aplikasi PGPR untuk meningkatkan ketahanan tanaman padi terhadap serangan virus. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan praktis petani dalam pembuatan pestisida nabati dan penerapan PGPR meningkat. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui tes pengetahuan, observasi praktik, dan umpan balik dari peserta, yang menunjukkan tingginya tingkat partisipasi dan kepuasan peserta terhadap metode pelatihan. Penerapan pestisida nabati dan PGPR pada tanaman padi di Desa Penggalaman diharapkan dapat mengurangi risiko serangan penyakit virus dan dampak negatif penggunaan pestisida kimia.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengaplikasikan penggunaan perangkap tikus semi-otomatis sebagai solusi yang efisien dan ramah lingkungan dengan mempertimbangkan keberlanjutan lingkungan. Diharapkan bahwa metode ini akan membantu menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem lokal dan mengurangi efek negatif penggunaan pestisida konvensional. Dalam pengabdian ini, perangkap semi-otomatis dipasang di pertanian Desa Bentok Darat. Evaluasi hasil pengabdian mencangkup penilaian seberapa efektif perangkap tikus, dan bagaimana perangkap berdampak pada lingkungan sekitar. Partisipasi masyarakat dalam penggunaan perangkap juga dilakukan. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan perangkap tikus semi-otomatis dapat secara signifikan mengurangi populasi tikus tanpa mengganggu lingkungan. Selain itu, penerimaan masyarakat terhadap penggunaan metode ini sangat positif. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ada kemungkinan untuk menerapkan metode ini secara lebih luas untuk mengendalikan tikus di wilayah pertanian yang lainnya yang mungkin dapat diterapkan di tempat lain.

Abstract

Tikus menjadi salah satu masalah serius yang dapat mengancam hasil panen pertanian khususnya di Desa Bentok Darat. Salah satu solusi yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengurangi populasi tikus yaitu dengan menggunakan RUBUHA (Rumah Burung Hantu). Metode Pelaksanaan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat 1. tahap persiapan, yaitu melakukan survey dan diskusi untuk mendapatkan informasi serangan tikus yang dibutuhkan seputar lokasi; 2. Metode pelatihan pembuatan Rubuha dan bagaimana memelihara burung hantu nya; 3. Pengamatan jumlah tikus yang tertangkap oleh burung hantu yang disimpan dalam Rubuha. Penggunaan Rubuha tidak hanya membantu mengendalikan tikus, tetapi juga meningkatkan kesadaran petani tentang pentingnya pelestarian burung hantu sebagai predator alami tikus. Hasil program pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Rubuha cukup efektif dalam mengurangi populasi tikus. Selain itu, Respon petani juga positif dalam mengikuti penyuluhan mengenai perawatan dan pemeliharaan burung hantu serta RUBUHA di lahannya.

Abstract

Climate change poses a significant threat to agricultural productivity, particularly in regions like Banjarbaru, Indonesia. This study investigates the impact of climate change on rice farming in Banjarbaru and explores the potential of green ecology practices to mitigate these effects.The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. Findings reveal that fluctuating weather patterns, including prolonged droughts and floods, have severely impacted rice cultivation. Farmers reported decreased yields, disrupted planting schedules, and increased pest and disease outbreaks.To address these challenges, the study highlights the importance of adopting green ecology practices, such as organic fertilizer use, integrated pest management, and the utilization of local wisdom-based techniques. These practices can improve soil health, reduce reliance on chemical inputs, and enhance overall agricultural sustainability. However, limited awareness and insufficient government support remain major obstacles to their widespread adoption.Recommendations include improved water governance, increased support for sustainable agriculture, facilitated market access for green products, and enhanced government engagement to foster a climate-resilient agricultural system in Banjarbaru. By implementing these measures, Banjarbaru can mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change and ensure long-term food security.

Abstract

Climate change has posed a major challenge to the agricultural sector, which plays an important role in meeting global food needs. In Indonesia, conventional agricultural practices dominated by the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides have a negative impact on the environment, such as water, soil, and air pollution, as well as decreasing the quality of the ecosystem. Therefore, the transition to sustainable agricultural systems is an urgent need to maintain ecosystem sustainability. This study uses a mixed method approach by combining quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. The study was conducted in Banjarbaru to analyze the agricultural practices applied by local farmers. The findings show that the majority of farmers use semi-organic and non-organic methods in the use of fertilizers and pesticides. However, farmers admit that organic products have quality advantages and positive impacts on the environment. Based on the findings, the study provides several recommendations to support the adoption of organic farming, including training and education for farmers, subsidies for organic farming inputs, technical support, infrastructure development by the government, and increased market access for organic products. The recommendations aim to encourage the widespread and sustainable application of organic farming practices, so that they can overcome environmental challenges and improve the sustainability of the agricultural sector.

Abstract

Fungal contamination in stored corn grain not only reduces grain quality but alsoposes risks to animal and human health due to mycotoxin production. This study highlights the importance of early detection and identification of fungal pathogens in corn as a key aspect of plant protection and postharvest management, as well as the need to determine the types and concentrations of toxins produced. Corn samples were collected from a storage warehouse in Satui Village, Kota Baru Regency, South Kalimantan. Fungal isolation was conducted at the Phytopathology Laboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. PCR analysis and gene sequencing were performed at the Genetics Sciences Laboratory, Jakarta, while toxin type and content analyses were carried out at the Animal Husbandry Laboratory, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta. From 11 microbial isolates obtained from corn grain, only one fungal species was identified, namely Aspergillus flavus. This species was found to produce 8.00 ppb of aflatoxin, which remains below the established safety thresholds of 15 ppb for B1 and 20 ppb for total aflatoxins.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberdayakan petani di Kecamatan Astambul, Kabupaten Banjar, melalui pelatihan pembuatan Trichoderma sp. sebagai agen hayati pengendali penyakit tanaman. Ketergantungan petani terhadap pestisida kimia masih tinggi akibat terbatasnya pemahaman tentang alternatif pengendalian hayati. Pelatihan yang dilaksanakan pada 9 Oktober 2025 di Balai Penyuluhan Pertanian Kecamatan Astambul melibatkan 20 petani padi dengan pendekatan partisipatif dan metode praktik langsung. Kegiatan mencakup penyuluhan tentang hama dan penyakit tanaman padi serta demonstrasi pembuatan inokulum Trichoderma sp. menggunakan bahan lokal yang mudah diperoleh.Pelatihan ini berhasil meningkatkan pemahaman petani mengenai mekanisme kerja Trichoderma sp. dan keterampilan teknis dalam memproduksi inokulum secara mandiri. Meskipun penerapan langsung di lahan belum dilakukan, hasil diskusi menunjukkan bahwa petani mulai memahami potensi penggunaan Trichoderma sp. untuk mengurangi frekuensi penyemprotan pestisida kimia sebanyak 1–2 kali per musim tanam. Selain itu, berdasarkan referensi ilmiah, penggunaan Trichoderma sp. secara konsisten berpeluang meningkatkan kesehatan perakaran dan produktivitas tanaman padi hingga 10–20%. Program ini juga memperkuat kolaborasi antara perguruan tinggi, Balai Penyuluhan Pertanian, dan kelompok tani sebagai langkah awal menuju penerapan biokontrol yang berkelanjutan. Untuk menjaga keberlanjutan program, diperlukan pendampingan teknis lanjutan, ketersediaan isolat berkualitas, serta pengembangan unit produksi inokulum di tingkat kelompok tani. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan potensi besar sebagai model pemberdayaan petani menuju pertanian yang lebih ramah lingkungan dan berkelanjutan. Empowering Farmers through Training on the Production of Trichoderma sp. as a Solution for Plant Disease Control in Astambul District Abstract This community service program aimed to empower farmers in Astambul District, Banjar Regency, through training on the production of Trichoderma sp. as a biological agent for plant disease control. Farmers in the region remain highly dependent on chemical pesticides due to limited knowledge of alternative biological control methods. The training, conducted on 9 October 2025 at the Agricultural Extension Center of Astambul District, involved 20 rice farmers using a participatory approach and hands-on learning methods. The activities included a lecture on major pests and diseases of rice plants and a demonstration of Trichoderma sp. inoculum production using easily accessible local materials.The program successfully improved farmers’ understanding of the mode of action of Trichoderma sp. and enhanced their technical skills in producing inoculum independently. Although field application has not yet been carried out, discussions with participants indicated that farmers now recognize the potential of Trichoderma sp. to reduce the frequency of chemical pesticide applications by 1–2 times per planting season. In addition, scientific references indicate that the consistent use of Trichoderma sp. may improve root health and increase rice crop productivity by 10–20%. The program also strengthened collaboration among universities, the Agricultural Extension Center, and farmer groups as an initial step toward sustainable biocontrol implementation. To ensure long-term sustainability, continued technical assistance, access to high-quality isolates, and the development of inoculum production units at the farmer-group level are required. Overall, this program demonstrates strong potential as a model for empowering farmers and promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture.
