Abstract

Carbon dots (CDs) are a novel class of carbon-based nanomaterials with diverse applications due to their biocompatibility, optical properties, and chemical stability. This study aims to synthesize CDs from Terung Dayak (Solanum ferox) using a microwave-assisted method and evaluate their optical properties, metal ion sensing capability, and antioxidant activity. The CDs were synthesized with variations in microwave power and citric acid concentration, specifically: CD-a using 1 g citric acid at 600 W, CD-b using 2 g citric acid at 600 W, CD-c using 3 g citric acid at 600 W, and CD-d using 2 g citric acid at 800 W, and then characterized using UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results revealed strong UV absorption with maximum peaks at 250 nm for all CDs synthesized and 275 nm for CD-d, depending on synthesis conditions. The CDs exhibited fluorescence intensity influenced by microwave power, with the highest intensity observed for CDs synthesized at 800 W and 2 g of citric acid. The optical bandgap from UV-Vis spectra, determined via Tauc plot analysis, ranged from 4.03 eV to 4.71 eV, indicating quantum confinement effects for all CDs. Furthermore, CD-d demonstrated selective fluorescence quenching for Fe3+ ions, which quenched the fluorescence of the CD. Antioxidant activity was confirmed via 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, with an IC50 value of 126 ppm for CD-d. These findings highlight the potential of Terung Dayak-derived CDs as multifunctional materials for sensing and antioxidant applications.

Abstract

SMAN 1 Manuhing Raya, located in Tehang Village, Manuhing Raya District, Gunung Mas Regency, Central Kalimantan, relies primarily on water from a nearby river. However, the water quality is substandard; its cloudy appearance and acidity pose health risks to students and staff, disrupting the teaching and learning process. To address this, a Slow Sand Filter (SSF) water purification system was implemented to ensure the availability of clean water at the school. The implementation involved two stages: socialization and practical training on SSF construction and maintenance. Students responded positively to the socialization and demonstrated understanding of the SSF assembly and upkeep. The SSF effectively reduced water turbidity from 8.00 to 6.00, clarified its color from yellowish to clear, and increased its pH from 6.4 to 7.6. In conclusion, this initiative successfully provided clean water to the SMAN 1 Manuhing Raya community and equipped students with knowledge about SSF construction and maintenance, applicable in their own living environments.

Abstract

The use of natural pigments, both in the food and cosmetic industries, is gaining popularity due to their environmentally friendly nature and minimal health risks. One natural pigment that is often used is chlorophyll, a color pigment that provides a distinctive green color and is beneficial for health. However, the interaction of chlorophyll when interacting with other bioactive compounds is still poorly studied.  This study aims to analyze the interaction between chlorophyll from skrewpine leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius) with bioactive compounds from dayak onions (Eleutherine sp.) using UV-Vis spectroscopy. through mixing extracts with various volumes. The results of UV-Vis analysis showed absorption in the 420 nm and 670 nm regions which showed typical absorption of chlorophyll. These absorbances did not show significant differences in the addition of Eleutherine sp. extracts in various volume ratios. Which indicates that there are no significant interactions or reactions that can degrade chlorophyll in Eleutherine sp. secondary metabolites. However, color analysis based on RGB and CIE LAB shows significant differences.

Abstract

Mercury (Hg) contamination presents significant effects on human health and the environmental, particularly caused by its bio-accumulative and neurotoxic properties. Effective detection of Hg(II) is essential for monitoring and mitigating its impact. Among various detection methods, colorimetric sensors have developed into a promising solution due to their affordability, simplicity, and real-time detection capabilities. This review summarizes recent advancements in colorimetric sensors for Hg(II) detection, focusing on innovative materials such as silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), paper-based substrates, agarose biopolymers, and carbon dots (CDs). AuNPs and AgNPs are highlighted for their unique optical properties and sensitivity, enabling visible detection through surface plasmon resonance changes. Paper-based sensors offer portability and low-cost solutions, while agarose serves as a stable biopolymer matrix for immobilizing detection agents. CDs, with their tunable fluorescence properties and green synthesis potential, provide a biocompatible option for hybrid sensing systems. Despite significant progress, challenges such as stability, selectivity in complex matrices, and scalability of green synthesis remain. Future research should focus on integrating these sensors into portable platforms and enhancing their performance for field applications. This review underscores the critical role of innovative materials and sustainable techniques in advancing mercury detection technologies

Abstract

Environmental problems, one of which is caused by human activities and in the form of waste, require special attention in managing, for example, organic solid waste. Organic waste problems are also among the environmental problems, for example in the city of Palangka Raya, which is affected by increasing population growth. Data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia shows that the amount of organic waste produced daily is 0.7 kg/person and 60% of its composition is organic waste. The method of implementing charitable activities is through socialization and demonstration, as well as the application of products to cultivated plants. The phases of the activities carried out include the preparation phase, the biomass crushing phase, the fermentation phase, the product harvesting phase, and the product application phase. The products of the service activities are solid organic fertilizer (compost) and liquid organic fertilizer (POC), i.e. the water produced during the decomposition process. The compost products are characterized by the fact that they are not sharp, brown, and moist. Hopefully, the charitable activities carried out can be easily applied by communities and organizations that need knowledge and implementation of charitable activities related to organic waste processing to alleviate environmental problems, such as the Muhammadiyah Organization of Palangka Raya City.

Abstract

Heavy metal contamination endangers human health and has been identified as a global issue. The rising concentration of heavy metals in industrial and domestic wastewater has prompted the quest for effective technologies and treatments to remove them. Zeolite is a promising material for eliminating heavy metals from diverse sources that pollute wastewater. Zeolite is a crystal comprised of hydrated aluminosilicates of alkali and alkaline earth metals in a threedimensional crystal network composed of easily controllable SiO4 4− and AlO4 5− . This review focuses on the critical analysis of the application of several zeolites for the adsorption of heavy metals from wastewater, namely Cd(II), As(III and V), Cr(III and VI), Cu(II), Pb(II), Ni(II), Mn(II), and Hg(II). The results of heavy metal removal reported by zeolites are summarized, and the chemical modification of zeolites with acid/base/salt reagents, surfactants, and metal reagents has been investigated, compared, and discussed. The adsorption/desorption capabilities, systems, operational parameters, isotherms, and kinetics of zeolites are then explained and compared.

Abstract

Transformasi digital menjadi kebutuhan penting bagi Usaha Mikro, Kecil, dan Menengah (UMKM) dalam meningkatkan daya saing di era digital. Salah satu bentuk transformasi tersebut adalah melalui promosi produk secara daring. NA Corner, sebuah UMKM yang dikelola oleh kader Nasyiatul Aisyiyah Kalimantan Tengah di Kota Palangka Raya, telah memanfaatkan media sosial Instagram sebagai sarana promosi. Namun, pengelolaan konten pada akun tersebut masih belum optimal, khususnya dalam hal penyediaan video promosi. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah memberikan pelatihan pembuatan video promosi menggunakan aplikasi CapCut kepada kader Nasyiatul Aisyiyah Kalimantan Tengah untuk meningkatkan kualitas konten digital NA Corner. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan terdiri atas tiga tahap, yaitu: (1) persiapan materi dan peralatan, (2) pelatihan pembuatan video promosi yang mencakup penyampaian materi, diskusi, dan praktik langsung, serta (3) evaluasi hasil pelatihan melalui penilaian video peserta dan kuesioner umpan balik. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa kelompok 5 menghasilkan video promosi terbaik berdasarkan kriteria penilaian yang ditentukan. Evaluasi terhadap pemahaman peserta menunjukkan bahwa keberhasilan transfer pengetahuan mencapai lebih dari 90%. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat berdampak langsung pada peningkatan kualitas promosi produk, memperluas jangkauan pasar, serta berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan omzet harian NA Corner. Dengan demikian, pelatihan ini tidak hanya memperkuat kapasitas digital kader, tetapi juga mendukung peningkatan daya saing UMKM secara berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The fishing industry in Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan Province, has great potential for development. However, farmers face problems related to feed availability and prices, as well as limitations in digital marketing. This community service program aims to provide skills to the “Berkat Bersama” Business Group through training in independent fish feed production using local materials with automatic machines and digital marketing training. The activities were carried out in a participatory manner, including preparation and coordination, procurement of materials, assembly of feed printing equipment, module development, dissemination of information on the importance of quality feed and the use of local materials, and training on marketing strategies using digital media. Monitoring and evaluation were conducted through pre-tests, post-tests, and participant testimonials. The pre-test results showed that the majority of participants were in the “Poor Understanding” (75%) and “No Understanding” (12.5%) categories. After the training, there were no more participants in these two categories, while 12.5% of participants reached the “Fair Understanding” category, 25% “Understanding,” and 25% “Very Understanding.” Participant testimonials reinforce that this program is useful as a means to increase independence in feed supply, expand the marketing network for fishery products, and strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of freshwater fish farming businesses in Palangka Raya.

Abstract

Stunting merupakan masalah gizi yang terjadi akibat kekurangan nutrisi, terutama pada periode pertumbuhan awal anak. Kasus stunting di Kota Palangka Raya mencapai 27,8%, bahkan lebih tinggi dari rata-rata angka stunting di Provinsi Kalimantan Tengah (26,9%). Prevalensi stunting sangat dipengaruhi oleh kesadaran untuk mengkonsumsi makanan sehat dan tinggi probiotik yang menunjang pertumbuhan. Pada umumnya, masyarakat terutama ibu balita dan anak-anak sering mengkonsumsi makanan ringan yang rendah nutrisi sehingga menghambat pertumbuhan anak. Makanan bergizi tidak harus mahal, contohnya kimchi sebagai makanan fermentasi mengandung serat tinggi, probiotik, vitamin, dan mineral yang baik untuk kesehatan. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan pembuatan kimchi kepada ibu-ibu dan kader posyandu. Proses pembuatan kimchi cukup mudah, bahan-bahannya mudah diperoleh serta harganya terjangkau. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan terdiri dari pemaparan materi, simulasi pembuatan kimchi, tanya jawab, dan evaluasi. Hasil kuesioner dari 24 peserta, sebagian besar setuju dan sangat setuju jika tema kegiatan sesuai kebutuhan, materi mudah dipahami, pengetahuan peserta meningkat dan peserta juga tertarik untuk mencoba membuat kimchi. Kegiatan PKM ini dinilai cukup berhasil dan dapat diteruskan oleh peserta

Abstract

Air merupakan sumber daya alam yang sangat penting bagi kelangsungan hidup manusia. Sumber daya air harus dilindungi agar manusia dan makhluk hidup lainnya dapat memanfaatkannya dengan baik. Air sungai yang keluar dari mata air biasanya mempunyai kualitas yang sangat baik. Namun dalam proses pengalirannya air tersebut akan menerima berbagai macam bahan pencemar. Terutama pada saluran drainase primer pengeringan IV Bukit Keminting Kelurahan Palangka, Kecamatan Jekan Raya, Kota Palangka Raya. Pencemar tersebut berupa limbah domestik yang berasal dari aktivitas penduduk dan perumahan penduduk yang membuang limbah ke sungai tanpa pengolahan terlebih dahulu, padahal mayoritas warga yang bermukim disekitar drainase masih memanfaatkan air tersebut. Oleh karena itu dilakukan pengujian kadar asiditas dan alkalinitas di sekitar saluran drainase. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan di sepanjang aliran drainase dan ditentukan kadarnya dengan menggunakan metode titrasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rata-rata asiditas sebesar 35 mg/L. Berdasarkan PERMENKES No. 416/MEN.KES/PER/IX/1990, asiditas sampel masih memenuhi baku mutu air bersih. Sedangkan untuk kadar alkalinitas rata-rata sebesar 980 mg/L telah melebihi baku mutu air menurut Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 82 Tahun 2001 Tentang Pengelolaan Kualitas Air dan Pengendalian Pencemaran Air. Kata kunci: asiditas, alkalinitas, baku mutu air.
