Abstract

This study is a descriptive study with qualitative approach which aimed to describe the mathematical problem solving abilities by Polya step terms of abstract sequential thinking style, concrete sequential, abstract random and concrete random. The subjects in this study are 4 (four) of students grade VIII SMPN 24 Makassar selected purposively based on the different of thinking style. Data collection tool is questionnaire to classify students based on the thinking style and to determine the subject, written tests and interviews to determine the ability of students' mathematical problem solving. Data were analyzed to describe the mathematical problem solving ability of students based on Polya steps namely; (1) understanding the problem, (2) devising a plan, (3) carrying out the plan and (4) looking back. The results showed that students' of premises concrete sequential and abstract random thinking styles has the same ability on the fourth problem solving step in understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan and looking back on the process and results. While students with the type of abstract sequential thinking style and concrete random has a different problem solving steps on each of the four stages.

Abstract

This research is to determine the effectiveness of implementation LAPS-Heuristic learning model in students grade VIII one ofSMP Negeri at Wajo regency with criteria,procedural knowledge, student activities and student responses.. The data were collected using initial knowledge test (pretest) at the first meeting and procedural knowledge test (posttest) at the final meeting, learning feasibility observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, and student’s response questionnaire.Research result descriptively obtained 1) Improvement of learning achievement in terms of normalized gain score obtained an average 0.6704 with standard deviation 0.21822, 2) Learning feasibility was done very well with average 3.85, 3) The results of student activity observation is in average percentage 95%, and 4) The increase of student’s procedural knowledge is reviewed through normalized gain score 0.6704 is in the medium category. Inferentially obtained 1) Hypothesis test for procedural knowledge obtained value of ttable = 2.080 with value α = 0,05 and tcount = 20,761, and 2) Hypothesis test for normalized gain obtained tcount= 14,409. Based on the results, LAPS-Heuristic learning model is effective to implement in mathematics learning on the subject of tangent line to two circles.

Abstract

Academic writing is one of the essential skills that university students must acquire, especially in preparation for the IELTS writing test, which demands not only English language proficiency but also logical and systematic thinking skills. Although this skill is crucial, the majority of students in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM) still demonstrate limited competence in academic writing, particularly for IELTS purposes. One strategic effort to enhance this skill is through a student mentoring program supported by the FMIPA International Students Community (FISCO), a group comprising students and alumni. This community serves as mentors and teaching assistants in the English for Subject Matter (ESM) program, which specifically guides students in the International Class Program (ICP) in mastering academic skills, with a focus on academic writing as a key component of the IELTS test. Although the mentors generally possess strong academic backgrounds, many of them still face challenges in effectively teaching academic writing techniques. Therefore, this community service activity aims to improve the academic writing skills of ICP mentors through the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. The program was carried out in three main stages: (1) presentation of the material, (2) practical application of AI tools, and (3) interactive discussion. Evaluation results based on questionnaires distributed at the end of the training session indicated that all participants responded positively to the training and showed increased knowledge regarding key aspects of academic writing for IELTS Writing Task 1 and Task 2.

Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan pendekatan ex post facto bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh persepsi siswa tentang perhatian orang tua, kemandirian belajar, dan kedisiplinan belajar terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri 4 Takalar. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 55 siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri 4 Takalar tahun ajaran 2021/2022 yang dipilih menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode tes dan angket. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis jalur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Persepsi siswa tentang perhatian orang tua, kemandirian belajar, dan kedisiplinan belajar siswa berada dalam kategori tinggi, sedangkan hasil belajar matematika siswa berada dalam kategori rendah, (2) Persepsi siswa tentang perhatian orang tua tidak berpengaruh langsung terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa, (3) Kemandirian belajar tidak berpengaruh langsung terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa, (4) Kedisiplinan belajar tidak berpengaruh langsung terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa, (5) Persepsi siswa tentang perhatian orang tua tidak berpengaruh tidak langsung (melalui kedisiplinan belajar) terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa, (6) Kemandirian belajar tidak berpengaruh tidak langsung (melalui kedisiplinan belajar) terhadap hasil belajar matematika siswa.

Abstract

Pendekatan metakognitif merupakan pendekatan pembelajaran merangsang peserta didik agar lebih menyadari pemikiran mereka, pengetahuan. dan kebutuhan untuk memperoleh pengalaman belajar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas pembelajaran metakognitif. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 1 kelas yang dipilih melalui teknik cluster random sampling dengan one group pretest-posttest sebagai desain penelitian. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah lembar tes pretest dan posttest untuk memperoleh deskripsi hasil belajar sebelum dan setelah pendekatan metakognitif diterapkan; lembar observasi aktivitas peserta didik; serta angket respon peserta didik untuk mengetahui tanggapan peserta didik setelah diterapkan pendekatan metakognitif. Pengumpulan data dilaksanakan melalui observasi dan teknik tes, serta pemberian angket. Teknik analasis data dilakukan secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan metakognitif efektif diterapkan pada pembelajaran matematika karena memenuhi indikator efektivitas berupa rata-rata hasil belajar peserta didik, aktivitas peserta didik, dan respon yang positif terhadap proses pembelajaran dengan pendekatan metakognitif. Sehingga pendekatan metakognitif dapat dijadikan salah satu alternatif pendekatan pembelajaran yang dapat diterapkan dalam pembelajaran matematika

Abstract

This study aims to know the description of mathematical communication skills in terms of students' mathematics ability in class IX in solving problems on the subject of quadratic equations. The type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. There were 6 research subjects namely two students that have high-ability, two students that has medium-ability, and two students that has low ability. The instruments used in data collection are written tests and interviews. The results showed that subjects with high mathematical abilities were sufficiently able to describe and state problem situations in written or image form properly, were able to use mathematical symbols and terms appropriately and were able to connect algebraic expressions into mathematical ideas. Subjects with moderate mathematical abilities are able to use mathematical symbols and terms appropriately but are less able to describe and state problem situations in written or image form properly and are also less able to connect algebraic expressions to mathematical ideas. Subjects with low mathematical abilities are not able to describe and state problem situations in written or image form properly and correctly, are less able to use mathematical symbols and terms appropriately and have not been able to connect algebraic expressions into mathematical ideas. The results of this study are expected to add insight and improve students' mathematical communication skills, especially in solving math problems related to the application of everyday life.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) learning at the elementary school level in Makassar. This study employed a mixed methods approach, specifically the QUANqual type of explanatory sequential design. The survey method was used to collect and analyze quantitative data, while interviews and documentation methods were used for qualitative non-numerical data. The respondents consisted of elementary school teachers in Makassar who were selected using simple random sampling. The results showed that using SWOT analysis and internal strategic factors analysis summary-external strategic factors analysis summary (IFAS-EFAS) calculations, the strengths-opportunities (SO) strategy has the highest score of 4.27. In addition, the weaknesses-opportunities (WO), strengths-threats (ST), and weaknesses-threats (WT) strategies received consecutive scores of 3.25, 2.71, and 1.69, respectively. It suggests that STEAM learning in Makassar is in a growth stage due to its strengths and opportunities that support the development of STEAM education in the city.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian dengan tema Optimalisasi Pembelajaran Menggunakan Teknologi Kecerdasan Buatan (AI) bagi Guru di SMKS Islam Pesantren Alam merupakan program pengabdian yang bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam memanfaatkan AI untuk mendukung pembelajaran. Fokus pelatihan ini adalah mengembangkan keterampilan guru dalam membuat media pembelajaran interaktif menggunakan Canva dan menyusun alat evaluasi adaptif melalui ChatGPT. Pelatihan ini meliputi pemahaman dasar tentang AI, langkah-langkah penggunaan Canva dan ChatGPT, serta pendekatan untuk menghadapi tantangan yang mungkin muncul selama penerapan. Metode yang diterapkan mencakup ceramah dan praktik langsung, yang memungkinkan peserta memahami konsep sekaligus menerapkannya dalam konteks pembelajaran mereka. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan dalam pemahaman dan keterampilan peserta, dengan umpan balik positif terkait relevansi materi dan manfaat praktis yang diterima. Dengan integrasi AI, diharapkan kualitas pembelajaran di sekolah dapat meningkat secara berkelanjutan, mendukung kesiapan guru menghadapi pendidikan abad ke-21

Abstract

FMIPA merupakan salah satu fakultas di UNM yang telah menamatkan sekitar 1000 alumni di tahun 2023 saja. Kepedulian Ikatan Alumni (IKA) FMIPA memotivasi pengurus IKA dan beberapa dosen FMIPA berkolaborasi untuk memberi pengetahuan dan keterampilan kepada alumni dan mahasiswa FMIPA dalam menggunakan software sitasi (seperti Mendeley) sekaligus membuat daftar sitasi dalam membuat karya tulis ilmiah. Tujuan utama dari pengabdian berupa workshop ini adalah untuk membekali mahasiswa dan alumni FMIPA meningkatkan kemampuan membuat sitasi dan daftar sitasi (bibliography) menggunakan aplikasi referensi Mendeley. Sasaran utama dari pengabdian ini adalah mahasiswa (terkhusus Jurusan Matematika) dan alumni FMIPA Universitas Negeri Makassar. Metode interaksi yang digunakan selama pengabdian adalah online classical teaching and training menggunakan Zoom. Interaksi classical teaching dikhususkan untuk menanamkan konsep, pengetahuan awal dan penjelasan alur workshop yang akan dilaksanakan, sedangkan classical training digunakan untuk praktekum peserta secara bertahap untuk lebih menggaransi kepemahaman peserta lebih baik. Hasil dari pengabdian ini sangat baik, karena peserta yang beragam mulai dari yang tidak pernah menggunakan mendeley sampai yang sudah menggunakannya merasakan kepuasan dan peningkatan kemahiran dalam menggunakan Mendeley. Rekomendasi peserta yang mengemuka adalah mereka masih membutuhkan workshop serupa untuk mencapai kemahiran dalam membuat karya ilmiah itu sendiri.
