Abstract

The sugar palm plant is a potential plant because almost all parts of the sugar palm tree are useful and can be used for various needs, starting from the roots, stems, leaves, fibers and its products (nira, starch or flour, and fruit)the main product of the sugar palm plant is nira which is processed into various products, such as sugar, alcohol, and biofuel.Sugar palm plants generally live in tropical environments).Sugar palm is a type of palm plant that has a very wide distribution in Indonesia, with an area of 62,009 ha, consisting of Sumatra with an area of 15,802 ha, Java 19,757 ha, Bali 587 ha, NTB 1,816 ha, Kalimantan5,401 ha, Sulawesi16,951 ha and Maluku 1,696 ha. Sugar palm seeds consist of seed coat (testa), endosperm, and embryo, and the embryo becomes a food reserve for apokol. Apokol is a white coral tissue where shoots and roots grow, appearing 2-4 weeks after planting. The development of the potential of sugar palm has problems related to the availability of sugar palm seeds which are currently still hampered because the nature of sugar palm seeds is waterproof so that it will inhibit the ability of the seeds to germinate. The growth process of sugar palm beginswith the emergenceapokol after that shoots will appear in the germinations. But no ideal apokol was found thatlong in determining the process of shoot growth. This study was conducted where the results of the data on apokol diameter, apokol length, root length and number of roots were obtained. Keywords : apocol, anatomy, bud

Abstract

Rice is a primary necessity for the Indonesian people, as it serves as a source of energy and carbohydrates. Rice cultivation requires strategic approaches to increase production, aiming to prevent threats to Indonesia's food security. One strategy that can be applied is the jajar legowo rice planting system. The jajar legowo system is a technique that manipulates planting distances to increase rice yields, resulting in a greater number of edge plants. This activity aims to enhance farmers' understanding of rice cultivation using the jajar legowo system to achieve better harvests and to boost their enthusiasm in working on their agricultural land. The activity was conducted on the rice fields owned by the Tanjung Raya farming group, located in Nagari Sungai Dareh, Pulau Punjung District, Dharmasraya Regency. The method employed involved directly practising the jajar legowo rice planting system in the farmers' rice fields. The activity proceeded smoothly, successfully increasing the farmers' understanding of *jajar legowo* rice cultivation to achieve better harvests. Both the farmers and students involved in the activity were able to perform their tasks according to the specified guidance. Looking forward, it is hoped that similar activities will be held, as this initiative by the students of Campus III Universitas Andalas Dharmasraya aims to provide benefits and positive contributions to the surrounding community.

Abstract

Indonesia needs to diversify cane sugar into brown sugar to reduce imports of cane sugar. Excessive consumption of cane sugar is one of the causes of the increase in diabetes mellitus sufferers. The sugar palm plant as a producer of brown sugar has the potential to be developed as a substitute for cane sugar. Identification of sugar palm plants is carried out to determine genetic diversity. High genetic diversity also has high adaptability. This research aims to determine differences in the morphological characteristics of sugar palm plants based on different altitudes and identify the level of uniformity of morphological characteristics in sugar palm plants. The results of these observations are used as initial data to determine the parent tree that will be used as propagation material. The research was conducted in North Lintau Buo District, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra from September to October 2024. Sampling locations were taken based on different altitudes with three plant samples per altitude until nine plant accessions were obtained. The research results showed that the quantitative and qualitative characters of sugar palm plants had relatively narrow phenotypic variability values. The kinship analysis of sugar palm plants has a level of similarity with a coefficient value of 10.13 – 80.39%. The closest relationship distance is shown in accession 8 and accession 9, with a similarity level of 80.39%. Meanwhile, accession 4 has a distant relationship with accessions 1, 3, 2, 7, 8, 9, 6, and 5 with a similarity level of only 10.13%. PCA analysis shows that accession 4 is different from other accessions based on the characteristics of bark color, frond shape, petiole shape, and build leaflets.

Abstract

[[INFESTATION LEVEL OF GREEN SCALE INSECT (Coccus viridis) ON COFFEE PLANTS AT PT PTL COFFEE BEAN, SOLOK SELATAN REGENCY]. The green scale insect (Coccus viridis) is a major pest in coffee plantations in Indonesia. It is classified as an economically significant pest due to its potential to cause up to 50% plant damage, leading to substantial yield reduction and financial losses. This study aims to determine the infestation level of Coccus viridis at PT PTL Coffee Bean, Solok Selatan Regency, and to analyze the influence of environmental factors on infestation intensity. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a foundation for developing appropriate pest control strategies based on the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The research was conducted using a systematic sampling method with a diagonal line pattern across the coffee plantation owned by PT PTL Coffee Bean. Direct field observations were performed, and further analyses were conducted at the Integrated Pest Management Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. The results showed that the infestation intensity of Coccus viridis on coffee plants at the study site was 15.38%, which falls into the mild infestation category. The infestation level was influenced by environmental factors such as altitude, temperature, humidity, light intensity, and cultivation techniques. Although the infestation level was classified as mild, regular monitoring remains essential to prevent an increase in pest populations. Furthermore, IPM-based control strategies should be optimized to sustain coffee plant productivity, including the conservation of natural enemies and the application of proper cultivation techniques.

Abstract

Nagari Talang Anau Tourism Village is one of the palm sugar producing areas that has been known for a long time by the community. In this area, there are many sugar palm trees and several small industries engaged in processing sap into palm sugar. However, the industry has not developed optimally and still uses conventional methods for its business management strategy. Therefore, we carried out training activities to prepare a business strategy based on the business model canvas (BMC) to the people of Nagari Talang Anau. The training was conducted using the lecture method by the speaker about BMC and continued with direct practice of BMC preparation. Some of the facilities and infrastructure supporting this service activity include stationery, BMC material, loudspeakers, laptops, and projectors. During the presentation, participants seemed enthusiastic to the material presented. The discussion went in two directions which was marked by the emergence of various questions related to BMC. The BMC consists of 9 elements including target market, consumer value proposition, channels, consumer relationships, revenue sources, main activities, human resources, cooperation, and cost structure. Through this preparation, it is expected to be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the business that has been carried out and help the palm sugar industry to focus and be rational in determining business development targets.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The clove stem borer (Nothopeus hemipterus) is a major pest causing significant economic losses in clove cultivation. In Samigaluh, most farmers rely on chemical pesticides for control. However, essential oils and entomopathogenic fungi offer safer and more sustainable alternatives. This study aimed to evaluate their effectiveness and determine the most suitable control method. The research was conducted in Kayugedhe Hamlet, Samigaluh, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, from April to September 2022. A randomized completely block design was used with different pest control treatments, including chemical pesticides (fipronil, acephate, and profenofos), botanical pesticides (10% neem oil and 10% citronella oil), biological pesticides (Beauveria bassiana at 1 × 10⁸ CFU/mL), and a control. The pesticides were applied using a hydraulic pump and a wax-sealing method on larval entry holes. Larval mortality was recorded weekly for four weeks. The results showed that the application of entomopathogenic fungi (Beauveria bassiana) and citronella oil led to larval mortality rates of 78% and 75%, respectively, which were comparable to the effectiveness of fipronil (80%) and acephate (81%). In contrast, N. hemipterus larvae exhibited lower susceptibility to profenofos, with a mortality rate of only 47%, suggesting potential resistance. These findings indicate that B. bassiana and citronella oil extract could serve as effective and environmentally friendly alternatives for controlling the clove stem borer.
