Abstract

Nagari Sungai Dareh is a part of the Punjung Island District, West Sumatra which has a relatively flat topography and tropical climate. Most of the population works as farmers, so there are many rice planting areas. Problems faced by local farmers are blast and bacterial leaf blight disease attacks, while no appropriate control methods have been found. Therefore, this service was carried out which aims to increase farmers' knowledge about the symptoms and control of these two types of diseases. The equipment used in this activity includes stationery, projectors, presentation materials, and speakers. This service activity was carried out in 3 stages which included 1) Focus Group Discussion, 2) location survey and direct observation in rice cultivation fields, and 3) education and extension on the symptoms and control of blast and bacterial leaf blight diseases. During the presentation, farmers were enthusiastic in listening. Discussions took place well between the presenters and farmers. Blast disease is caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae, while bacterial leaf blight is caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas oryzae. Blast disease gives symptoms in the form of grayish-brown rhombic spots, while bacterial leaf blight symptoms are yellowing, pale, dry leaves starting from the tips, edges to spread to all parts of the leaf. Both diseases can be well controlled through the use of resistant varieties and improved cultivation techniques. The application of appropriate doses of N fertilizer can suppress blast and bacterial leaf blight attacks, because the higher the N applied causes the plant tissue to be softer, making it easily infected by fungi and bacteria. This activity succeeded in increasing farmers' knowledge about the symptoms of blast and crackle diseases and the best methods to suppress them.

Abstract

Purpose – Learning media innovation for basic plant physiology courses is needed in today's digital era, one of which is through e-modules based on Canva and Educandy Studio. Through this research, the effectiveness of e-module innovation based on the combination of Canva and Education Studio will be studied more deeply to find out how effective the development of a combination e-module is in improving student grades.Method – The study was conducted on 27 Agroecotechnology students, Universitas Andalas, who took the plant physiology course. E-modules and quizzes were created using Canva and Education Studio. The effectiveness of using e-modules is seen based on pre-test and post-test scores, which are analyzed by effect size analysis.Findings – The canva-based basic plant physiology e-module combined with game-based quizzes with Educandy studio can effectively increase student scores by 44.59%. The core material of the e-module is declared valid and feasible with a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.84. This innovation succeeded in increasing learning effectiveness by 89%. Research Implications – The innovation of e-modules based on canva and educandy studio as a basic learning of plant physiology can improve student understanding in each physiological process, especially the bright reaction of photosynthesis. This e-module provides a more attractive learning media display and provides an opportunity for students to evaluate independently. The limited features of Canva and Education Studio resulted in not all physiology material being poured in the form of e-modules. However, overall e-module innovation has a significant effect on the level of student understanding.

Abstract

Community service is a form of activity to transfer and apply knowledge and technology directly to help people's lives improve and develop, including owners of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This community service program was carried out for PTL Coffee MSMEs located in Nagari Lubuk Gadang Selatan, Sangir District, South Solok Regency, West Sumatra Province, with the theme of creating a Business Model Canvas (BMC). This service aimed to find out the right business model for the sustainability of the PTL Coffee. Besides, it is expected that new ideas can be found to support the development of PTL Coffee through analysis of existing businesses. Activities were conducted online through presenting material using Zoom Meetings and offline by visiting PTL Coffee to help make BMC. The discussion during the Zoom Meeting proceeded smoothly, and the attendees appeared excited to listen to the materials delivered. Overall, PTL Coffee was able to compile the nine components of BMC successfully, which allowed it to assess the business's strengths and weaknesses. It also helped PTL Coffee set reasonable and targeted goals for the company's future growth.

Abstract

The potential of aren palm (Arenga pinnata Merr.) in the area around Lake Maninjau has not been optimally utilized. Empirically, this commodity plays an important role in land conservation and improving the economy of the Nagari Koto Malintang community. Therefore, this community service activity was carried out with the aim of empowering the community to be able to manage aren trees sustainably, thereby increasing aren sugar productivity while supporting land conservation efforts in the area. This activity used methods of socialization, discussion, and direct practice with the “Kelompok Tani Hutan Gali Ide Langsung Aren) (KTH GILA), PT PLN Indonesia Power UBP Bukittinggi, and KPH Agam Raya. The results of the activity showed that the participants were enthusiastic and paid attention to the socialization and direct practice provided by the community service team. The material presented succeeded in changing the community's views and increasing their knowledge regarding palm cultivation. This change not only increased productivity and income but also raised community awareness of the importance of palm trees in preserving the environment. Overall, this community service program empowered the community through the development of palm tree potential. Through the integration of income generation and environmental conservation awareness, palm cultivation can serve as a model for sustainable economic development in Nagari Koto Malintang.

Abstract

Climate change is related to changes of climate patterns that impact unpredictable weather phenomena. These phenomena can include extreme heat, extremely low temperatures, drought, or extremely high rainfall. With high adaptability, sugar palm (Arenga pinnata Merr.) can be one of the conservative plants that have a vital role in mitigating global climate change. Sugar palms have a high ability of carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration and store it in the form of biomass. The results of the review show that palm trees have an inherent tolerance mechanism, for example under dry conditions, sugar palm produces lignin to strengthen cell walls and increase antioxidant in the form of osmoprotectants. However, the lack of empirical data and detailed studies hinders a deeper understanding of the limits of this tolerance. This article highlights significant research gaps and recommends future studies to investigate in more detail gene-environment interactions, genetic adaptation potential, and the role of specific metabolites in sugar palm. Overall, sugar palm has a fairly high carbon absorption capacity of > 85 t/ha/year. Therefore, this article is expected to not only fill the knowledge gap but also serve as a foundation for conservation efforts and the sustainable use of sugar palm in facing global climate.

Abstract

Padukuhan Grogol X is part of Parangtritis Village, Bantul, Yogyakarta, where most of the people work as farmers. Shallots are one of the most widely cultivated crops in this area. The biggest obstacle in cultivating this crop is fusarium wilt and purple spot (trotol) disease, which cause a decrease in yield. Both diseases are caused by the fungi Fusarium sp. and Alternaria porii, respectively. Control measures so far have been carried out chemically using synthetic fungicides. Chemical control is the predominant method of disease management in this area. This community service activity aims to educate shallot farmers about the importance of biological control and provide training in the propagation of the biological agent Trichoderma sp. using simple, easily obtainable materials. The equipment and materials prepared include socialization tools, containers, Trichoderma sp. isolates, newsprint, and half-cooked rice. The Trichoderma sp. isolate is mixed with half-cooked rice, then placed into a container, sealed, and left for 1–2 weeks. The resulting product can be used as a biological agent to control Fusarium sp. and A. porii. During the socialization and training process, farmers were quite enthusiastic and attentive to the material presented. After the assistance, farmers gradually began to reduce the intensity of chemical disease control and started substituting it with Trichoderma sp., which they propagated independently.Padukuhan Grogol X merupakan bagian dari Kelurahan Parangtritis, Bantul, Yogyakarta yang sebagian besar penduduknya berprofesi sebagai petani. Tanaman bawang merah menjadi salah satu jenis tanaman yang paling banyak dibudidayakan pada daerah ini. Kendala terbesar dalam budidaya tanaman tersebut antara lain disebabkan oleh serangan penyakit layu fusarium dan bercak ungu/trotol yang menyebabkan penurunan hasil panen. Kedua penyakit tersebut masing-masing disebabkan oleh cendawan Fusarium sp. dan Alternaria porii. Adapun pengendalian secara kimiawi merupakan jenis pengendalian penyakit yang dominan pada daerah ini. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi kepada petani bawang merah akan pentingnya pengendalian hayati serta pelatihan perbanyakan agen hayati Trichoderma sp. dari bahan sederhana yang mudah diperoleh. Peralatan dan bahan yang dipersiapkan antara lain peralatan sosialisasi, wadah, isolat Trichoderma sp, kertas koran, dan beras/nasi setengah matang. Isolat Trichoderma sp. dicampurkan dengan nasi setengah matang kemudian dimasukkan ke dalam wadah, lalu ditutup dan ditunggu hingga 1–2 minggu. Hasil yang diperoleh dapat digunakan sebagai agen hayati pengendali Fusarium sp. dan A. porii.  Selama proses sosialisasi dan pelatihan, petani cukup antusias dan menyimak materi yang disampaikan. Setelah dilakukan pendampingan, petani secara perlahan mulai mengurangi intensitas pengendalian penyakit secara kimiawi dan mulai mensubstitusinya menggunakan Trichoderma sp. yang telah diperbanyak secara mandiri.

Abstract

Asupan buah bagi anak usia PAUD (Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini) memiliki peran besar dan menjadi faktor penentu dalam memastikan kesehatan dan perkembangan optimal. Buah-buahan mengandung banyak serat dan berbagai vitamin serta mineral yang berfungsi sebagai antioksidan dan penangkal senyawa radikal bebas dalam tubuh. Tingkat konsumsi buah pada anak usia dini masih tergolong rendah karena berbagai faktor salah satunya kurangnya pengetahuan mengenai pentingnya buah bagi pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak. Kegiatan pengabdian dan pemberdayaan ini ditujukan untuk mengedukasi pentingnya buah bagi kesehatan melalui Gerakan Gemar Makan Buah bagi anak-anak PAUD di Padukuhan Grogol X, Parangtritis, Bantul, Yogyakarta. Penyampaian edukasi dilakukan melalui metode sosialisasi serta praktik langsung dengan membagikan beberapa jenis buah kepada anak-anak. Selama sosialisasi berlangsung, anak-anak tampak antusias mengenal berbagai jenis buah. Beberapa anak terlihat mengajukan pertanyaan sederhana mengenai suatu jenis buah. Dari hasil praktik langsung terlihat banyak anak usia dini yang memakan buah-buahan yang dibagikan dengan lahap. Melalui kegiatan ini secara keseluruhan dapat meningkatkan wawasan anak usia dini mengenai rasa buah-buahan serta mampu mendorong kemauan anak untuk memakan buah-buahan.

Abstract

Dewasa ini, meningkatnya kesadaran masyarakat akan kesehatan telah meningkatkan konsumsi buah-buahan, termasuk pepaya yang kaya akan vitamin, serat, dan antioksidan. Produksi pepaya di Kabupaten Magelang, khususnya di Kecamatan Bandongan, mengalami penurunan signifikan, meskipun memiliki kondisi geografis dan iklim yang mendukung. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan produksi pepaya California di Kelompok Tani Mulyo melalui sosialisasi dan aplikasi bakteri fotosintetis. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan melalui penyuluhan, pembinaan, praktik langsung, dan evaluasi, dengan pendekatan analisis masalah, brain storming solusi, serta pemberian informasi mengenai bakteri fotosintetis. Anggota kelompok tani mengamati aplikasi PSB di lahan demonstration plot dan mengevaluasi hasilnya setelah enam bulan. Hasil kegiatan sosialisasi dan brainstorming menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dari anggota kelompok tani. Sosialisasi teknologi budidaya PSB berhasil meningkatkan pemahaman petani tentang cara mengatasi masalah teknis dalam budidaya pepaya. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan bakteri fotosintetis (PSB) pada tanaman pepaya di Desa Rejosari meningkatkan produksi sebesar 34,28%, dilihat dari jumlah bunga dan buah yang terbentuk. Tanaman yang disemprot PSB memiliki daun yang lebih banyak dan lebih hijau, serta tinggi tanaman yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan yang tidak disemprot. Selain itu, tidak ada insidensi penyakit layu dan penurunan signifikan penyakit keriting pucuk (PMV) pada tanaman yang diaplikasikan PSB. Petani lebih menyukai visual tanaman yang disemprot PSB karena pertumbuhan yang lebih sehat dan lebih tahan terhadap penyakit. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa PSB dapat menjadi solusi efektif dan ramah lingkungan dalam meningkatkan produktivitas dan kualitas tanaman pepaya di Rejosari.

Abstract

Limbah rumah tangga masih menjadi sumber pencemaran lingkungan jika tidak dikelola dengan baik. Sampah rumah tangga terdiri dari limbah organik dan anorganik.  Sampah organik bisa diolah menjadi pupuk organik cair maupun kompos. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk: (1) Meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga, (2) Melakukan pelatihan kepada masyarakat tentang cara mudah mengolah sampah menjadi pupuk organik dengan menggunakan metode komposter ember tumpuk.  Cara ini diharapkan bisa menjadi salah satu solusi dalam mengurangi limbah yang berasal dari sampah rumah tangga. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian yang telah dilakukan diketahui bahwa masyarakat sudah mampu mengelola sampah rumah tangga menjadi pupuk organik dengan menggunakan metode ember tumpuk.  Olahan sampah rumah tangga ini menghasilkan dua produk sekaligus, yaitu pupuk organik cair dan pupuk kompos.  Minat dan antusias peserta pelatihan cukup tinggi, baik dari mahasiswa maupun dari masyarakat. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari kehadiran peserta sebanyak 100 % dan keaktifan peserta selama dilakukannya kegiatan ini.  Masyarakat sudah mulai melakukan pengelolaan sampah secara mandiri.  Pupuk organik cair dan kompos yang diperoleh dapat diaplikasikan untuk meningkatkan ketersediaan unsur hara tanah pada lahan pekarangan yang berfungsi untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan tanaman seperti tanaman hias, sayuran dan lainnya. Dengan demikian pengolahan sampah rumah tangga menggunakan komposter ember tumpuk bisa dijadikan salah satu solusi awal dalam penanggulangan limbah.

Abstract

Rice is a primary necessity for the Indonesian people, as it serves as a source of energy and carbohydrates. Rice cultivation requires strategic approaches to increase production, aiming to prevent threats to Indonesia's food security. One strategy that can be applied is the jajar legowo rice planting system. The jajar legowo system is a technique that manipulates planting distances to increase rice yields, resulting in a greater number of edge plants. This activity aims to enhance farmers' understanding of rice cultivation using the jajar legowo system to achieve better harvests and to boost their enthusiasm in working on their agricultural land. The activity was conducted on the rice fields owned by the Tanjung Raya farming group, located in Nagari Sungai Dareh, Pulau Punjung District, Dharmasraya Regency. The method employed involved directly practising the jajar legowo rice planting system in the farmers' rice fields. The activity proceeded smoothly, successfully increasing the farmers' understanding of *jajar legowo* rice cultivation to achieve better harvests. Both the farmers and students involved in the activity were able to perform their tasks according to the specified guidance. Looking forward, it is hoped that similar activities will be held, as this initiative by the students of Campus III Universitas Andalas Dharmasraya aims to provide benefits and positive contributions to the surrounding community.
