Abstract

This article explains the science-religion struggle regarding the change in Muhammadiyah's dawn prayer time criteria, where this decision appears to be inconsistent with the research results of three previously appointed institutions. This research falls into the qualitative category, utilizing literature reviews related to the changes in Muhammadiyah's Fajr time criteria. The theory of science-religion relations is employed to dissect how the science-religion struggle is manifested in this decision. In practice, other research, philological studies, and the application in other Muslim countries also contribute to the considerations. The science-religion struggle in Muhammadiyah's decision is classified as an integrative typology in Ian Barbour's theory of science-religion relations. However, as an organization, Muhammadiyah is bound by rules to achieve its goals, guided by the Manhaj Tarjih and maslahah.  Although not explicitly neglecting the scientific aspect, setting -18° as the new criterion for Fajr time indicates Muhammadiyah's inconsistency in applying the research results of its three competent internal institutions. Artikel ini menjelaskan tentang pergumulan sains-agama dalam hal perubahan kriteria waktu subuh Muhammadiyah, dimana ketetapan ini terlihat tidak sesuai dengan hasil penelitian 3 lembaga yang telah ditunjuk sebelumnya. Penelitian ini tergolong pada penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan kajian kepustakaan terkait dengan perubahan kriteria waktu subuh Muhammadiyah. Teori relasi sains-agama digunakan untuk membedah bagaimana pergumulan sains-agama dalam keputusan ini. Pada prakteknya, penelitian lain oleh kader Muhammadiyah, kajian Filologi, dan penerapan pada negara muslim lain. Pergulatan sains-agama dalam keputusan Muhammadiyah ini tergolong tipologi integrasi dalam teori relasi sains-agama Ian Barbour, namun sebagai sebuah organisasi Muhammadiyah memiliki keterikatan terhadap aturan dalam pencapaian tujuan, dalam hal ini berpedoman kepada manhaj Tarjih dan kemaslahatan. Walaupun tidak serta merta sebagai pengabaian terhadap aspek sains, namun penetapan angka -18° sebagai kriteria baru waktu subuh menunjukkan ketidakkonsistenan Muhammadiyah dalam menerapkan hasil penelitian 3 lembaga internalnya yang berkompeten.

Abstract

ABSTRACTCommunity understanding regarding prayer times is important to address the differences that occur. This service aims to provide an understanding of prayer times theoretically and applicatively as well as calibrate time benchmarks (clocks) in mosques which are indicated to be inaccurate. This activity was carried out through training related to the implementation of the Indonesian Ministry of Religion's standard prayer times in Alam Barajo District, Jambi City. These PkM activities are generally carried out using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method where parties (stakeholders) are actively involved in the activities. As a result, through this socialization activity, the community's paradigm and responsibility for the importance of standard prayer times has become better, especially in its implementation among the community. Furthermore, it is hoped that standardization of prayer times can be maintained and conflicts related to differences in prayer times will not occur.Keywords: Prayer Times, Training, Standardization of Prayer Times ABSTRAKPemahaman masyarakat terkait dengan waktu salat adalah hal yang penting untuk menyikapi perbedaan yang terjadi. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman tentang waktu salat secara teoritis-aplikatif sekaligus mengkalibrasi patokan waktu (jam) pada masjid-masjid yang terindikasi belum presisi. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan melalui pelatihan terkait implementasi waktu salat standar Kemenag RI di Kecamatan Alam Barajo Kota Jambi. Kegiatan PkM ini secara umum dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode Participatory Action Research (PAR) dimana pihak-pihak (stakeholders) dilibatkan secara aktif dalam kegiatan. Hasilnya, melalui kegiatan sosialisasi ini paradigma dan tanggung jawab masyarakat terhadap pentingnya waktu salat yang standar menjadi semakin baik, terutama dalam implementasinya di tengah-tengah Masyarakat. Selanjutnya diharapkan standarisasi waktu salat dapat terjaga dan konflik berkaitan dengan perbedaan waktu salat ini tidak terjadi.Kata Kunci: Waktu Salat, Pelatihan, Standarisasi Waktu Salat

Abstract

This article aims to describe the use of the Aboge calendar system in Jambi Sultanate manuscripts and analyze the historical context of the period. The research used the philological method to elaborate the manuscripts and then applied historical and astronomical approaches to study the texts. The study involved some 17th to 20th-century manuscripts of the Sultanate of Jambi that use colophons in the Aboge calendar style. Although some of the Aboge calendars in the manuscripts cannot be converted into the Hijri and Christian calendars, the analysis of the Aboge calendar in these manuscripts strengthens the argument related to the influence of Javanese Kingdom of Mataram on the Jambi Sultanate, as known in Jambi Sultanate history, both power and cultural relations. In contrast, the use of the Aboge calendar in Jambi also shows the relationship between the Jambi Sultanate with Aceh and West Sumatra, where some of the Aboge reflect Aceh and Tariqa Shattariya modifications.

Abstract

The scholars of the Madzhab permit funeral prayers to be performed above the grave, but they differ in opinion regarding the time limit of its permissibility. The Shafi'i Madzhab does not specify a time limit for how long after death a funeral prayer can be performed at the grave, unlike the Hambali school, which sets a limit of only one month. This research is qualitative and falls under the category of library research, utilizing a comparative approach. The Shafi'i Madzhab holds the view that there is no time limit for performing the funeral prayer above the grave because the prayer here refers to supplication, which is permissible at any time. This stance is correct as there is no evidence indicating any time restrictions. The Hambali Madzhab contends that the time limit for performing the funeral prayer above the grave is a maximum of one month because many Hadith narrations mention that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) performed the funeral prayer for Ummu Sa'ad bin Ubadah after she had been buried for a month, and at that time, the body was still considered intact. The most relevant opinion is that of the Shafi'i scholars because there is indeed no evidence restricting the funeral prayer above the grave.

Abstract

This article aims to promote the Isbat session as a collective ijtihad practice that can overcome the differences in the legal paradigms of Hisab and Rukyat in determining the beginning of Ramadan in Indonesia. This study uses qualitative-descriptive analysis by observing the practice of the Isbat session in dealing with differences in the legal paradigms of Hisab-Rukyat in Indonesia. Primary data uses official documents from the Ministry of Religious Affairs regarding the Isbat Session from time to time. Then the data is elaborated with secondary data, especially the opinions of scholars regarding the role of collective ijtihad in dealing with differences in the paradigms of Islamic law. The article finds that the Isbat Session is a real example of the practice of collective ijtihad in Indonesia, which combines religious values, science, and the principle of deliberation. Its role is very significant in bringing together the diversity of paradigms and legal views of the Islamic community in Indonesia. Furthermore, the practice of the Isbat session also has an impact on the socio-community aspect in strengthening the unity of Muslims amidst the diversity of legal methods and views. This article contributes to the development of Islamic legal science to become a reference for academics on related issues.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the application of underage marriage that was carried out in the Islamic Religious Council of the Patani Region of Southern Thailand and to find out the views of Islamic law on the application of underage marriage that were determined by the Islamic Religious Council. Southern Thailand, Patani Region The Islamic Religious Council of the Patani Region has regulated an age limit for couples who will marry. Even though the age limit has been regulated, there are still underage marriages that are carried out. In this study, the researchers used a type of empirical juridical research with a sociological approach. The results of this study indicate that the application of underage marriage must be carried out by complying with the rules regulated by the Islamic Religious Council of the Patani Region and the rules issued by the Islamic Religious Council of Thailand in 2018 AD. The application of underage marriage carried out in the Religious Council Islam Patani Territory is a legal marriage, does not violate Islamic laws, and can be done by fulfilling the pillars and conditions according to Islamic law.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui  penerapan perkawinan di bawah umur yang dilaksanakan di Majelis Agama Islam Wilayah Patani Thailand Selatan dan untuk mengetahui pandangan hukum Islam terhadap penerapan perkawinan di bawah umur yang di tetapkan oleh Majelis Agama Islam Wilayah Patani Thailand Selatan. Majelis Agama Islam Wilayah Patani telah mengatur batas usia bagi pasangan yang akan melaksanakan perkawinan. meskipun suda diatur batas usia tersebut tetap saja masih ada pernikahan dibawah umur yang terlaksana. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan jenis penelitian yuridis empiris dengan pendekatan sosiologis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan perkawinan di bawah umur harus dilaksanakan dengan memenuhi aturan-aturan yang di tetapkan oleh Majelis Agama Islam Wilayah Patani dan aturan yang di keluarkan Majelis Agama Islam Thailand tahun 2018 M. Penerapan perkawinan di bawah umur yang di laksanakan di Majelis Agama Islam Wilayah Patani adalah perkawinan yang sah dan tidak melanggarkan hukum-hukum Islam dan bisa di lakukan dengan memenuhi rukun dan syarat menurut hukum Islam.

Abstract

The phenomenon of moral degradation among the younger generation indicates the urgency of systematic interventions to prevent the decline in the quality of the nation's future leaders. In a strategic effort to address this issue, this research focuses on exploring the development of school culture at MTs Al-Baqiyatush Shalihat as an alternative model for fostering positive character. The study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, conducted through comprehensive data collection methods, including field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation.The research emphasizes the implementation of fundamental values encompassing religious, social, knowledge, and technological systems as the foundation for character building. The findings reveal significant success in instilling superior character traits in students, reflected in improvements in honesty, tolerance, discipline, and social responsibility. However, the study also identifies several complex challenges, including the diversity of students' backgrounds, the acceleration of information technology, and the lack of parental involvement in the character-building process.These findings underscore the need for a collaborative approach between educational institutions, families, and communities to create a conducive ecosystem for shaping a quality generation. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to designing a holistic educational intervention model that not only transfers knowledge but also actively fosters positive character in young people as a preventive measure against deviant behaviors in the future

Abstract

Abstract: This study discusses the concept of wasaṭiyyah Muhammadiyah's perspective on fiqh problem development, especially in Indonesia. It is related to the internal conflicts of Muslims in various aspects of life, includingIslamic law or fiqh. These disputes are caused by the friction between the two opposing ideologies in methodology and approach, sometimes caused by an intervention born through contradiction between liberals who want to free themselves from the shackles of textual understanding from the conservative group. In this case, Muhammadiyah occurs to introduce itself as an organization that seeks to offer concrete solutions through its wasaṭiyyah understanding. This study aims to reveal the concept of wasaṭiyyah in Muhammadiyah fiqh, which is related to the expression of the wasaṭiyyah idea in the fiqh produced by Muhammadiyah. This study uses a literature research method that focuses on wasaṭiyyah concepts as seen from the understanding of Muhammadiyah fiqh through decisions, congress results or the other fiqh products officially issued by Muhammadiyah. This study concludes that the concept of fiqh wasaṭiyyah Muhammadiyah tries to understand and place text and context proportionally to raise non-radical characteristics and also non-liberal. Furthermore, Muhammadiyah upholds the principle of tawāsuṭ which is combined with the codes of tawāzun and ta'ādul through an “Islam Berkemajuan" or the progressive Islam orientation.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas praktik pembayaran fidyah shalat dengan emas untuk orang yang sudah meninggal di Desa Tiangko, ditinjau dari perspektif mazhab Imam Syafi’i dan Imam Hanafi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami sejarah munculnya praktik tersebut, pandangan masyarakat, serta pendapat kedua mazhab. Metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif digunakan dengan pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik fidyah shalat mengikuti tradisi lama, dengan syarat utama penggunaan emas. Jika tidak ada emas, keluarga meminjam dari tetangga. Pandangan masyarakat terbagi antara yang menganggapnya tradisi penting dan yang melihatnya sebagai sesuatu yang kurang serius. Mazhab Imam Syafi’i umumnya tidak membolehkan fidyah shalat, kecuali dengan makanan pokok, sedangkan Imam Hanafi memperbolehkan fidyah dalam bentuk selain makanan pokok, seperti emas atau uang
