Abstract

Aquaponics is a combination of aquaculture technology with hydroponic technology in one system to create a symbiotic relationship between the two. The main component in the aquaponics system is fish, where fish waste and feed residues as a nutrient supply are very dependent on aquatic plants. Stocking density is one of the things that needs to be considered in aquaponic fish farming systems. Inappropriate increase in stocking density can cause adverse effects that are detrimental to farmers. This study aims to determine the best growth and density level of tilapia reared in aquaponics system. The research was carried out for 40 days in April-June 2022 at the Fisheries Laboratory, Faculty of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Udayana University, Bali. The research design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 (three) treatments and each treatment consisted of 3 replications. The stocking density used was treatment I with a stocking density of 100 fish, treatment II 150 fish, treatment III 200 fish. The results of the study concluded that different fish stocking densities had an effect on survival, weight growth and specific growth rates. The highest survival rate was found in treatment III with an average of 87.3%, the highest weight growth was found in treatment I with an average of 3.29 grams, and the highest specific growth rate was found in treatment I of 4.67%.

Abstract

Lake Batur is the largest lake in the island of Bali. Lake Batur is widely used by the community in the aquaculture sector, namely floating net cage cultivation. The research aims to determine the influence of different stocking density on the growth rate and survival rate of the milkfish (Chanos chanos) in the 4 x 1 meters floating net cages in Lake Batur, Trunyan village. Data collection was done every two weeks during two months observation, from January 2020 – March 2020. The research used a complete random design consisting of three treatments and three replications of each treatment, which the treatment A of 15 fish/0.25m3, treatment B of 20 fish/0.25m3, and the treatment C of 25 fish/0.25m3. Measurements of fish length, fish weight, and water quality were done in situ. The results showed that the difference in stocking density had no effect on the absolute length, but those difference had an effect on the specific growth rate (SGR) and the survival rate of the fish. Treatment B resulted a maximum value of the growth rate, with an absolute length value of 0.69 ± 0.115cm/2 month and SGR 1.02 ± 0.095%/day. The fish survival rate at treatment A resulted in the highest value of 89 ± 3.46%/2 month. The value of water quality during the study were temperature of 25.9 ± 0.8oC, DO of 8.3 ± 0,1 mg/L, pH of 9.4 ± 0.2, and TDS of 995.5 ± 70.8 ppm.

Abstract

Stocking density is an important factor in cultivation, it can save land use, and increase the efficiency of fish farming. The purpose of this research was to determine the different density information on tilapia seeds measuring 2-3 cm as an alternative to using tilapia (O. niloticus) seeds 7-9 cm in size so that they can be developed in Batur Lake. The research was conducted in January - March 2020 in the floating net cages in Trunyan Kintamani village, Bangli, Bali. The research used a completely randomized design method with three treatments and three repetitions. The Tilapia seeds used are 2-3 cm with different stocking densities, 100 ind/m3, 150 ind/m3, and 200 ind/m3. The parameters observed were SGR (Specific Growth Rate), absolute growth, SR (Survival Rate), FCR (Feed Conversion Ratio), and water quality including temperature, DO, pH, TDS. The results of this study indicated that stocking density did not have a significant effect on the growth and survival rate of tilapia seeds, because the temperature was too cold so that the tilapia seeds failed to adapt properly at the beginning of stocking and the physiological conditions of the fish were disturbed so that the fish experienced stress and went to died. Water quality parameters measured include temperature with a range value of 25.86-25.880C, pH with a range value of 9.08-9.13, DO (Dissolved oxygen) with a range value of 7.9-8 mg/L, and TDS (Dissolved solids) with a range value of 1040.25-1041.58 mg/L.

Abstract

Identification is necessary to identify the identity of an organism. Fish can be identified morphologically, namely by recognizing physical characteristics and looking for differences in the fish. This research was carried out for 3 months, from sampling, laboratory activities, and data analysis, starting from January 2021 to March 2021. Sampling was taken universally, samples were obtained from fishermen in the coastal waters of South Bali who caught eels. Laboratory activities are carried out at Fisheries Laboratory, Udayana University. This study used a descriptive analysis method. The sampling technique used in this study was probability sampling with simple random sampling. The stages carried out in this study were divided into two stages, including (1) sampling and (2) identification of morphological characters. The eel samples were obtained based on morphological identification of physical observation, eels are known to have a mottled pattern with slightly rounded oval tails and long fins. The morphometric measurements also obtained the results of the pre-dorsal length (PDL) ratio of 27.98%, the head length (HL) ratio of 14.14%, the ano-dorsal length (AD) ratio of 18.79%, and the ratio of pre-anal length (PAL) of 46.54%. The morphologically and morphometrically identified eel samples were identified as Anguilla marmorata.

Abstract

Longtail Tuna (Thunnus tonggol) in the waters of the Bali Strait is a by-catch fish, so that information on this fish resource was still very lacking and its management of longtail tuna was often neglected. The aimed of this study is to predict the signs of the unsustainability of longtail tuna resources based on growth aspects which include the distribution of length frequency, estimation of age groups, growth patterns and growth parameters. Data collection was carried out from December 2018 to February 2019. The growth pattern estimated by relationship of length and weight, cohort was identified using an analytical model based on the FISAT program (FAO I-CLARM Stock Assessment Tools) and growth parameters were analyzed using the Von Bertalanffy growth model. It can be seen that, the catch is dominated by the size of the fish that have matured gonads or adults (69% females and 73% males). The growth pattern of female and male of longtail tuna is negative allometric (length growth is more dominant than weight). So it can be assumed that there is an inconvenience in environmental conditions and competition in fighting for food and space in the waters of the Bali Strait.Longtail tuna had asymptotic length values of 784.71 mm (female) and 738.04 mm (male) with growth coefficients of 0.13 (female) and 0.18 (male). The growth performance inteprated as quite high when compared to other waters in Indonesia.

Abstract

Betta fish (Betta splendens) is an ornamental fish that is in great demand by the community from adults to children. This fish has features such as beautiful body color, unique fin shape, and easy to maintain in a low oxygen environment. The growth rate is still slow causing the maintenance period to be relatively long so that the profits obtained are relatively small. Feeding is one of the important factors in the growth optimization process. Feed that has high protein can be used as a solution in betta fish cultivation. The feed used in the study was lemuru waste (head and bones). This study was conducted to determine the growth of betta fish (Betta plendens) fed lemuru waste feed. The study was conducted with the control jar treatment, the treatment jar A using a dose of 3%, the treatment jar B using a dose of 6%, the treatment jar C using a dose of 9%. This research was conducted for 42 days. Betta fish growth in the form of absolute weight, absolute length, specific growth rate (SGR), survival rate (SR), feed conversion ratio (FCR). Water quality parameters measured in this study include temperature, pH and DO. The results of the ANOVA study showed that survival had no significant effect on fish growth, while absolute weight, absolute length, SGR and feed conversion ratio had a significant effect on the growth of betta fish. The water quality parameters measured included temperature ranging from 27.20 to 27.69 0C, DO with a range of 3.00-3.03mg/L and a pH of 6.60-6.68.

Abstract

Aquaculture activities leads to increase the nitrate and phosphate due to nutrient input from the leftover fish farming feed. Nitrate and phosphate enrichment can be minimized by using concept of aquaponics and growing aquatic plants around the cultivation area. This study tries to find out the fluctuation nitrate and fosfat value on tilapia fish growing given celery (Apium graveolens) in tilapia fish farm. Celery plants were planted with three different treatments, namely the plants were planted using a flannel wick, the roots touched the water surface, and submerged beyond the plant roots to the stems. The results of observations for 1 month showed the highest average growth rate of celery (A. graveolens) in treatment A and the lowest in treatment C. The highest relative growth was in treatment A and the lowest was in treatment C. The highest survival was found in A and the lowest was in treatment C. The best phosphate absorption was in treatment B with 0.32 mg/L, and the lowest was in treatment C with 0.00 mg/L. The best nitrate uptake was in treatment A with 0.66 mg/L, and the lowest was in treatment B with 0.84 mg/L. The results of the One-Way ANOVA statistical test with Duncan's follow-up test showed significantly different treatments for phosohate and nitrate.

Abstract

Graphical Abstract Highlight Research A low sequence divergence of lemuru between Bali Strait and the northern latitude. S. lemuru migration route through ITF will maintain its nucleotide variation. The high haplotype diversity of lemuru is a testament to its adaptability. S. lemuru's high haplotype diversity supports their stock recovery in the Bali Strait. Two sardine species are morphologically and genetically highly distinct, even though they prefer overlapping water mass conditions from each other. Abstract Sardinella lemuru is known as the native pelagic fish of the Bali Strait. However, its presence has recently become challenging to find. This study aimed to validate S. lemuru using molecular taxonomy and link it to water circulations for sustainable management. It is the first study of relatively complete sequence data on S. lemuru in the Bali Strait. A total of 47 sequences were amplified using the control region gene of mitochondrial DNA. Other S. lemuru (n = 4) and Amblygaster sirm (n = 12) sequences were retrieved from GenBank. Low sequence divergence is observed in clade-1 of S. lemuru across the Bali Strait, Manado-Sulawesi, and Kudat-Malaysia. This is probably due to its migration using the main Indonesian ThroughFlow (ITF). There is an evolutionary divergence between two groups of S. lemurs, measuring 35.3%±4.1. The first signs of these cryptic groups were found at Canggu and Prigi, with 87 base-pair differences between the two groups. This study also presents strong evidence that A. sirm prefers overlapping water mass conditions with S. lemuru in the Bali Strait but is morphologically and genetically distinct. Notably, three samples of A. sirm in Kedonganan-Bali are clustered with other A. sirm locations passed by the primary and secondary South China Sea throughflow. The high genetic diversity of S. lemuru among Bali Strait sites demonstrates its adaptive ability, with scattered single-frequency haplotypes. The adaptive ability traits of S. lemuru support its stock recovery. The stock recovery recommendation is based on finding S. lemuru’s adaptive traits within their populations in suitable habitats and climatic conditions

Kata kunci: Sardinella lemuru, keragaman genetik, keragaman haplotipe Sardinella lemuru is pelagic commodities that have economic values for the Indonesian. S. lemuru has some of the major advantages, such as much population on Indonesian marine, low price, and has Omega-3 for the human body. The high demands of Lemuru Fish cause a high rate of cached, that can cause the risk of population degradation. Proper management of these commodities are needed to decrease the risk impact, that can be done rightly based on the equal value of information, and one of them is genetic diversity. This research compiles the recent researches about the genetic diversity of the Sardinella lemuru in Indonesian to get the explanation about Lemuru Fish diversity. The value of genetic diversity observed is based on the diversity value of Haplotype (Hd), because these two values have a positive correlation to make a whole representation from a commodity. The results of this review show that the genetic diversity of Lemuru Fish on Indonesian marine territorial has the high-value category. These results explain that in the high activities of fishing, Lemuru Fish genetically still have a high diversity that leads to the conclusion Lemuru Fish commodities has a high-level ability to adapt from environmental conditions. Keywords: Sardinella lemuru; genetic diversity; haplotype diversity
