Abstract

Character education is an important part of shaping students' personalities, not only to achieve academic success but also to instill good moral values. The aim of this research is to analyze the implementation of character education, to identify the challenges faced by teachers in applying character education, and to explore the efforts made by teachers to implement character education in English language learning in the seventh grade class at SMP Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli for the academic year 2024/2025. In conducting this study, the researcher used a qualitative method. Data was collected through observation, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed using data analysis techniques: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. After the analysis, the findings show that the implementation of character education in English language learning in the seventh grade at SMP Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli has not been fully realized in the learning process. The results indicate that the English teacher has implemented 18 character values in English language learning, with 13 character values being successfully implemented optimally, and 7 character values not yet fully implemented. The challenges faced include space limitations, lack of resources and specialized training for teachers, other priorities that need attention, inadequate equipment, insufficient attention to classroom decoration, and constraints in time and opportunity. Efforts that can be made include providing a special box for lost items, offering training for teachers on how to handle students with special needs, organizing discussions or competitions to create slogans, maximizing available resources, and carefully planning activities to avoid interfering with students' academic schedules. ABSTRAKPendidikan karakter merupakan bagian penting dalam membentuk kepribadian siswa agar tidak hanya berprestasi secara akademis, tetapi juga memiliki nilai moral yang baik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter, untuk mengetahui kendala yang dihadapi oleh guru dalam menerapkan pendidikan karakter dan untuk mengetahui upaya yang dilakukan guru dalam menerapkan pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli pada tahun 2024/2025. Dalam melakukan penelitian, peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui observasi, kuesioner, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis datanya dengan menggunakan teknik analisis data yaitu: reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Setelah dilakukan analisis, hasil penelitian ini adalah: penerapan pendidikan karakter dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli belum sepenuhnya terlaksana dalam proses pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru Bahasa Inggris telah menerapkan 18 nilai karakter dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, namun nilai karakter yang sudah berhasil diterapkan secara optimal yaitu 13 nilai karakter, dan 7 nilai karakter yang belum terlaksana secara optimal. Kendala yang dihadapi meliputi keterbatasan ruang, kurangnya sumber daya dan pelatihan khusus bagi guru, prioritas lain yang perlu diperhatikan, kurangnya peralatan yang memadai, kurangnya perhatian terhadap dekorasi kelas, serta keterbatasan waktu dan kesempatan. Upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah menyediakan kotak khusus untuk barang hilang, memberikan pelatihan kepada guru mengenai siswa dengan kebutuhan khusus, mengadakan diskusi atau kompetisi untuk membuat slogan, memaksimalkan fasilitas yang ada, serta merencanakan kegiatan dengan hati-hati agar tidak mengganggu jadwal akademik siswa.

Abstract

Teacher pedagogic competence affects the achievement of effective and quality learning, where teachers are expected to master all indicators of pedagogic competence. However, in the learning process that occurs, pedagogic competence is still not maximally applied by English teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Lotu. The purpose of this research was to find out what are the teachers’ pedagogic competences used by the teachers in teaching English and to find out the factors that influence teachers' pedagogic competence in teaching English. The method used in this research is qualitative analysis. The instruments were observation, interview and documentation. Data were obtained from observation which were then analyzed to reveal teachers' pedagogic competence. Data from interviews were analyzed to find out the factors that influence teachers' pedagogic competence in teaching English. Data from documentation used as relevant data to support in the research. After analyzing the pedagogic competence of teachers through observation and interviews, indicators of pedagogic competence that they used, namely mastering the characteristics of learners from the physical, moral, spiritual, social, cultural, emotional, and intellectual aspects, mastering learning theory and learning principles, facilitating the development of students' potential to actualize their various potential, organizing assessment and evaluating of learning processes and outcomes. Pedagogic competence that English teachers do not yet have are mastering learning theory and learning principles, utilizing information and communication technology for learning purposes and developing the curriculum related to the subjects taught. This is due to several factors, namely teaching experience, educational facilities, teacher income and principal supervision.

Abstract

Writing is the important skill that must be master by the students. Writing is also about the skill of a writer to communicate the information to the reader or group of readers. Writing becomes an important aspect in language learning. By writing, the students can share information and ideas in the written text. They can share to each other about what they think and feel about people, ideas, issues, and events in the written text. The students will write their assignments that may be one paragraph or several paragraphs, and they will also write the answers for tests and exams that may be a few sentences, a paragraph or two, or a complete essay in written form. The purpose of the research is to Increase the Students’ Ability in Writing Descriptive Text by Using Picture Strategy at the Eighth Grade of Smp Negeri 1 Gidowhich the total numbers of the students was 20 persons. The research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. This research was applied into two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The instruments used by the researcher to collect the data were observation sheet, evaluation sheet and field note. In the second meeting of cycle II, the researcher obtained the improvement of students, who achieved the Minimum Competence Criterion (63). there were 2 (10%) students who got score among 85-100 classified as “Very Good”, 6 (30%) students got score among 74-84 classified as “Good”, 12 (60%) no one students who reached the “Less” and no one students who reached the “Fail ”. In Cycle II the average was 83, the highest mark was 100 and the lowest was 63. It implies that the students’ ability in write descriptive text increase in cycle II. ABSTRAKMenulis merupakan keterampilan penting yang harus dikuasai oleh siswa. Menulis juga merupakan keterampilan seorang penulis untuk mengkomunikasikan informasi kepada pembaca atau sekelompok pembaca. Menulis menjadi aspek penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa. Dengan menulis, siswa dapat berbagi informasi dan ide dalam teks tertulis. Mereka dapat saling berbagi tentang apa yang mereka pikirkan dan rasakan tentang orang, ide, isu, dan peristiwa dalam teks tertulis. Siswa akan menulis tugas mereka yang mungkin berupa satu paragraf atau beberapa paragraf, dan mereka juga akan menulis jawaban untuk tes dan ujian yang mungkin berupa beberapa kalimat, satu atau dua paragraf, atau esai lengkap dalam bentuk tertulis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Siswa dalam Menulis Teks Deskriptif dengan Menggunakan Strategi Gambar di Kelas VIII Smp Negeri 1 Gido yang jumlah siswanya adalah 20 orang. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan desain Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Penelitian ini diterapkan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Instrumen yang digunakan peneliti untuk mengumpulkan data adalah lembar observasi, lembar evaluasi dan catatan lapangan. Pada pertemuan kedua siklus II, peneliti memperoleh peningkatan siswa, yang mencapai Kriteria Kompetensi Minimal (63). Ada 2 (10%) siswa yang mendapat nilai antara 85-100 yang tergolong “Sangat Baik”, 6 (30%) siswa mendapat nilai antara 74-84 yang tergolong “Baik”, 12 (60%) tidak ada siswa yang mencapai “Kurang” dan tidak ada siswa yang mencapai “Tidak Lulus”. Pada Siklus II rata-rata adalah 83, nilai tertinggi adalah 100 dan terendah adalah 63. Ini menyiratkan bahwa kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif meningkat pada siklus II.

Abstract

Teacher personality competence plays a critical role in shaping the effectiveness of the learning process. It refers to the personal qualities and characteristics that a teacher brings to the classroom, influencing how they interact with students, manage the learning environment, and serve as role models. This competence includes indicators such as honesty, exemplary conduct, a strong work ethic, high responsibility, pride in the profession, and self-confidence. Research suggests that personality competence not only affects the teacher-student relationship but also contributes to students' academic and personal development. Through observation, interviews, and documentation, this study investigates the personality competence of English teachers at SMK Negeri 1 Botomuzoi. The findings reveal that while the teachers demonstrate several positive traits, there are areas where improvements are needed, particularly in self-discipline, responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the teaching profession. The study underscores the need for continuous professional development to enhance teachers' personality competence, which in turn can positively impact the overall educational experience for students. ABSTRAKKompetensi kepribadian guru memegang peranan penting dalam membentuk efektivitas proses pembelajaran. Kompetensi ini mengacu pada kualitas dan karakteristik pribadi yang dibawa guru ke kelas, yang memengaruhi cara mereka berinteraksi dengan siswa, mengelola lingkungan belajar, dan menjadi panutan. Kompetensi ini mencakup indikator seperti kejujuran, perilaku teladan, etos kerja yang kuat, tanggung jawab yang tinggi, kebanggaan terhadap profesi, dan kepercayaan diri. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompetensi kepribadian tidak hanya memengaruhi hubungan guru-siswa tetapi juga berkontribusi terhadap pengembangan akademik dan pribadi siswa. Melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, penelitian ini menyelidiki kompetensi kepribadian guru bahasa Inggris di SMK Negeri 1 Botomuzoi. Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa meskipun guru menunjukkan beberapa sifat positif, ada beberapa hal yang perlu ditingkatkan, khususnya dalam hal disiplin diri, tanggung jawab, dan menunjukkan kebanggaan terhadap profesi guru. Penelitian ini menggarisbawahi perlunya pengembangan profesional berkelanjutan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi kepribadian guru, yang pada gilirannya dapat berdampak positif pada keseluruhan pengalaman pendidikan bagi siswa.

Abstract

Writing is one of the ways people convey information and give their opinions on specific topics. As an indispensable part of language communication, writing becomes an essential skill that students must master. However, grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Sirombu have low narrative writing ability. Therefore, the researcher wants to improve students' ability to write narrative texts by conducting group discussions. The researcher used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method that included two cycles and four meetings to conduct her study. CAR processes include planning, action, observation, and reflection. The survey subject is class VIII-1 of SMP Negeri 2 Sirombu in 2022/2023 with 19 students. The researcher used observation sheets, assessment sheets, and field notes to collect data. From there, the researcher made some suggestions related to the research results, specifically: (1) In teaching writing, teachers first need to motivate students to create great motivation for learning English in general and writing fluently in English in particular; (2) SMP Negeri 2 Sirombu in English teachers should use group discussion method to improve students' ability to write narrative writing, especially fables; (3) Students need to be encouraged to use dictionaries in the process of learning English; (4) SMP Negeri 2 Sirombu English teachers must be able to apply appropriate writing teaching strategies to students. After conducting research by applying the Group Discussion strategy for two cycles and four meetings, this strategy was successfully implemented in class VIII-1 of SMP Negeri 2 Sirombu to obtain good results; there was an increase, as the researchers hoped.

Abstract

Personality competence is one of the teacher competencies that is very important in the success of the teaching and learning process. The purpose of this study is to determine the personality competence of teachers in utilizing industry 4.0 technology in the learning process. The method used in this research was qualitative analysis. The instruments used are observations, interview and questionnaire.  After analyzing the teacher's personality competence through observation and interview, the researcher found that the four English teachers had personality competence indicators, namely, presenting themselves as a person who has a good personality stable, mature, wise, and authoritative, showing work ethic, high responsibility, a sense of pride in being a teacher, and self-confidence and upholding the ethical code of the teaching profession. Both English teachers who have been observed use technology when teaching in the classroom. Although English teachers have obstacles in using technology, they are able to deal with them. through topics provided. Then, students can share their ideas by writing the descriptive text especially describing a personality in correctly. Passing the MCC is a sign of a student's learning progress and is related to their academic achievement, particularly in the English subject. The study aims to improve students' descriptive writing abilities, particularly when it came to using the PLEASE Strategy to describe a personality. The researcher employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) to carry out the study. The eighteen pupils in the tenth grade at SMK Negeri 1 Ulu Moroo were the research subject. In order to gather data, the researcher employed assessment, field notes, and observation as tools. The researcher used essay writing as a tool for evaluation in order to assess the students' writing proficiency. The students' average score in Cycle I was 67.22, and they were unable to meet the MCC. However, the pupils performed well in Cycle II, with an average score of 82.5. The researcher finds that the PLEASE improved the students' writing skills in descriptive text at the tenth grade of SMK Negeri 1 Ulu Moroo in 2022/2023 since the students' marks in Cycle II are higher than those in Cycle I. It can be summed that the PLEASE can be applied in writing process at SMK Negeri 1 Ulu Moroo

Abstract

The researcher conducted a study entitled An Analysis of Students' Writing Skill Taught by Project-Based Learning Model at the Tenth Grade of SMK Negeri 1 Dharma Caraka Gunungsitoli Selatan in 2022/2023, with the aim to find and describe students' writing skill and the problems faced by students in writing taught by project-based learning model at the Tenth Grade of SMK Negeri 1 Dharma Caraka Gunungsitoli Selatan in 2022/2023. This research had conducted using descriptive qualitative research method. The data was collected and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman (1984) data analysis model. The results of the study showed that there were 12% or 4 students got the excellent category, there were 58% or 19 students got the good category, there were 15% or 5 students got the average category, there were 15% or 5 students got the fair category. Meanwhile, the average writing skill of students of class X Askep 2 SMK Negeri 1 Dharma Caraka Gunungsitoli Selatan who were taught using a project-based learning model were good with an average of 65.27, which meant that students had written descriptive text according to the form but still incomplete, less organized but the main idea is already visible, the choice of words and expressions is sometimes less precise but does not interfere with the meaning, and there are some mistakes in spelling but the meaning is not blurred. Meanwhile, the problems that students often encountered when writing English texts were cognitive problems consisting of generic structure, grammar, and spelling problems.

Abstract

Menulis adalah salah satu dari empat keterampilan dalam bahasa Inggris. Menulis adalah cara yang dapat digunakan oleh orang-orang untuk menyampaikan ide, pemikiran, kejatuhan, ekspresi dan informasi kepada orang lain dalam bentuk tertulis. Namun, para siswa di kelas delapan SMP Negeri 2 Gido tidak dapat mencapai skor kriteria kompetensi minimum, yaitu 70. Itu disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor yaitu siswa kelas memiliki kemampuan menulis yang rendah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Dalam melakukan penelitian, peneliti menggunakan metode Penilaian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa di Kelas VIII-C SMP Negeri 2 Gido dengan menggunakan strategi Draw Label Caption (DLC). Dalam menggunakan strategi ini, siswa telah dibantu untuk mengembangkan ide-ide mereka melalui tahapan menggambar, label pada gambar yang diberikan oleh peneliti dan kalimat di bawah gambar objek yang akan dijelaskan. Siswa dipandu untuk mengubah tahapan ini menjadi paragraf. Jumlah peserta dalam penelitian ini adalah 29 siswa terdiri dari 17 siswa laki-laki dan 12 perempuan. Dalam mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan tes tertulis secara individual. Hasil analisis yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata awal siswa adalah 49,82. Nilai yang lebih tinggi dari yang didapat siswa adalah 80 dan nilai terendah adalah 50 sedangkan rata-rata nilai siswa adalah 60. Selain itu rata-rata nilai mereka adalah 55,86. Nilai rata-rata dalam Siklus 1 adalah 55,86 dan Siklus 2 Tanda terendah adalah di 80 dan tertinggi 100. Ada 8 orang yang mendapat 95, 2 orang yang mendapat 90, 4 orang yang mendapat 85, dan 15 orang yang mendapat 80. Hasilnya memberi tahu kami bahwa penelitian memenuhi kriteria yang diharapkan. Nilai rata-rata adalah 85,51. Faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan siswa juga menunjukkan bahwa strategi caption label draw dapat meningkatkan kemampuan untuk menulis teks deskriptif.

Abstract

Membaca pemahaman merupakan kegiatan yang dilakukan untuk mendapatkan makna dari hasil membaca sehingga dapat memahami informasi detail yang terkandung dalam bacaan. Ini adalah salah satu tantangan yang dihadapi oleh siswa sekolah menengah pertama dalam memahami makna teks. Mereka memiliki pemahaman bacaan yang buruk sehingga sulit bagi mereka untuk memahami dan menemukan informasi penting yang terkandung dalam sebuah teks. Akibatnya, guru harus menggunakan strategi yang tepat dan efektif untuk membantu siswa memahami teks. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini berfokus pada Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) sebagai strategi pelatihan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks deskriptif dan menemukan tanggapan siswa setelah mengimplementasikan QAR dalam kegiatan kelas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa QAR merupakan strategi yang sangat berguna dan efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa di kelas. Siswa menjadi lebih baik dalam menanggapi pertanyaan pemahaman dalam teks deskriptif. Strategi ini juga mendorong siswa untuk lebih aktif di kelas dan meningkatkan rasa percaya diri siswa untuk menjawab pertanyaan dan membedakan pertanyaan tentang teks yang dibacanya.
