Abstract

Reading is one of the important basic skill in learning English besides Listening, Speaking and Writing. Reading activity has one of the ways to catch up information, to know enough science concepts, to know more knowledge, to understand scientifics books , Through reading in reader may have satisfication and comfort. The were some problems namely : The students are not able to identify the generic structure of text, The students can not identify the main idea of text, The students not able to find social function of text, The students had difficulty to find characteristics of text. The students have difficulty to find the language features of text. To overcome the problems, the researcher was implemented Scaffolded Reading Experience (SRE) Strategy. The purpose of the research was to improving the students reading comprehension narrative text by using Scaffolded Reading Experience (SRE) Strategy at the tenth grade of SMA Swasta Kristen BNKP Gunungsitoli in 2022/2023. The research method was Classroom Action Research (CAR) especially Quantitative method. The subject of research was the tenth grade of SMA Swasta Kristen BNKP Gunungsitoli which the total number of the students was 24 students. The researcher has conducted in two cycles. Each cycles consists of two meeting. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation sheet, field notes and evaluation sheet. The result of the data in Cycle I that there were 2 students (8%) in fail level, 10 students ( 42%) less level, 6 students (25%) in the enough level, 6 students (25%) in the good level and 0 students in the very good level. The average of the students’ value was 63.58%. This result showed that the students were unsuccessful. In Cycle II that there were 16 students (33.34%) in the Good Level and 8 students (66.66%) in the very good level. The average of the students’ value is 82.50%. Finally, the researcher gave some suggestions as follows: (1) the researcher suggested to the students to be confidence to convey their text to share experience idea if the teacher implement Scaffolded Reading Experience ( SRE) Strategy in teaching comprehension. (2) the teacher was to give a reminder to the students that in giving the response they should do it by themselves without depending on the other friends. (3) the researcher suggested all readers especially to the next researchers to explore how to easy to find main idea of the text that had not been explored by the researcher in the research.

Abstract

Berbicara adalah interaksi antara pembicara dan pendengar dalam mengucapkan kalimat untuk mengungkapkan gagasan, perasaan, dan pendapat satu sama lain. Begitu pula dengan silabus kurikulum 2013 SMP Negeri 2 Sirombu kelas VIII, diharapkan siswa harus mampu menerapkan dan menyusun teks interaksi interpersonal lisan dan tulis, terpendek dan paling sederhana yang melibatkan tindakan meminta perhatian, memeriksa pemahaman, menghargai kinerja. , dan tanggapannya dengan mempertimbangkan fungsi sosial, struktur teks, dan unsur kebahasaan secara benar dan isi. Kriteria Kompetensi Minimum pelajaran Bahasa Inggris di sekolah ini adalah 60 yang harus dilalui oleh siswa. Dengan kata lain siswa diharapkan mampu menyampaikan gagasan, pendapat, dan perasaannya kepada orang lain secara lisan dan benar. Namun kenyataannya, siswa belum mampu sepenuhnya memenuhi harapan silabus. Dalam memecahkan masalah siswa dalam berbicara, peneliti menerapkan Strategi Rotating Trio Exchange dengan menerapkan metode penelitian CAR. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dari hasil observasi, catatan lapangan, dan evaluasi. Hasil penelitian pada Siklus I, hasil kemampuan berbicara siswa yang memperoleh tingkat kefasihan level 1 (13,33%), tingkat kefasihan level 1+ (30,00%), tingkat kefasihan level 2 (23, 33) %), tingkat kefasihan tingkat 2+ (23,33%) dan tingkat kefasihan tingkat 3 (6,68%), dan tingkat kefasihan tingkat 3+ (3,33%). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa peneliti harus melanjutkan ke siklus kedua. Kemudian, siklus II menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berbicara siswa yang memperoleh tingkat kefasihan level 2+ (13,33%), tingkat kefasihan level 3 (56,67%) dan tingkat kefasihan level 3+ (30,00%). Hasil tersebut menggambarkan bahwa siswa mampu menetapkan sudut pandangnya berdasarkan topik yang diberikan dan mencapai harapan silabus dan MCC 60.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to find out and describe the students’ ability in writing report text of SMK Negeri 1 Sitolu Ori. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The total number of the sample was 16 students. The researchers used descriptive qualitative method. The instrument used to get the data was test and interview. Based on the research results from taking students’ worksheet documents and the results of interviews, it is concluded that most of the XII grade students of TKJ SMK Negeri 1 Sitolu Ori are unable to write report texts with an average score of 38 or fail. Based on the data presented in the previous table (tables 4 and 5) and the explanation of the results of the research that there was 1 student (5%) who was included in the sufficient category in writing report texts. On the other hand, there were 10 students (50%) who were not good at writing report texts. Furthermore, there were 5 students (45%) who were included in the category of failing in writing report texts. The results of the study also show that the factors that affect students' ability to write report texts are lack of vocabulary, In addition, finally, based on the findings, it is concluded that XII grade students of SMK Negeri Sitolu Ori have problems in writing report texts The students were not able to express idea.

Abstract

Reading is one of English skills that should be mastered by students because through reading, readers get important information, ideas or opinions of text they read about. But the fact, the students of SMP Negeri 1 Mandrehe at the eighth grade in 2015/2016 are not able to get information of narrative text. So, the researcher tries to apply Paraphrasing Strategy to investigate its significant effect on the students’ ability in comprehending narrative text. Paraphrasing Strategy is restating information in reading activity by finding the main ideas of paragraphs and by getting the specific facts of a text in own words. In conducting the research, the research uses quasiexperimental design. The subject of this study is the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Mandrehe in 2015/2016. The population of the research was consists of 103 students, the sample which consists of 68 students by cluster sampling. The data collected both of groups’ pre test, the data were normality and homogenous. The researcher did the treatment to the experimental group by using Paraphrasing Strategy. Based on the result of the data computation, it shown the mean score was 76.61 stated good. In the control group, the researcher taught the students by using conventional mathod. The result of post test was 61.47 stated adequate. Based on the result of hypothesis testing by using t-test, the researcher got tcount ≥ ttable (6.3347 ≥ 1.943 from the ttable with dk = 2(n-1) = 2(34-1) = 66 and the significance level is 5% (∝= 0.05). Because ttableto dk 66 is not be found in the critic distribution t of value table, so ttable is interpolated to dk 60 is 2.000 with ttable to dk 120 is 1.9880 So, ttable = t1/2(dk) = t0.025 x 66 = 1.943. Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be conclude that there was a significant effect of Paraphrasing Strategy on the students’ ability in comprehending narrative text at the Eighth Grade of SMP Negeri 1 Mandrehe in 2015/2016. Base on the analysis, the researcher suggest to the English teacher to use the strategy to teach the students. The strategy is Paraphrasing Strategy, it can solve the students problems, havefeedback, active and create the relation between teacher and student when teaching readingcomprehension especially in narrative text. Abstract

To effectively implement an independent curriculum, teachers must excel at engaging classroom management. This research aimed to identify challenges faced by English teachers in managing seventh-grade classes at UPTD SMP Negeri 4 Gunungsitoli and the factors contributing to these difficulties. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to gather data through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and student surveys. The data were analyzed to pinpoint specific challenges and their underlying causes. English teachers encountered nine primary classroom management issues, including difficulties in creating conducive learning environments, concluding lessons, managing transitions, and interacting with parents. Teachers also struggled with fostering a positive classroom community and providing effective rewards. Additionally, challenges arose in monitoring student progress, organizing group work, and assessing student performance. Teacher interviews revealed that time constraints, academic priorities, and limited school resources were major factors contributing to these difficulties. This study indicates that time, academic workload, and insufficient school resources significantly hinder English teachers' ability to manage their classrooms effectively within the independent curriculum framework.

Abstract

The ability to speak is an expression of expressing opinions, thoughts and feelings in communicating and expressing oneself through interactions between people. Speaking is the basis for students to be confident in developing their potential in learning, especially learning English. This researcher aims to improve students' speaking skills by using video blog media. The method used in this research is the classroom action research method. The instrument of this research is the use of media through video blogs. The classroom action research carried out consisted of two cycles. Each cycle consists of 4 stages, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. The research results showed that in cycle I there were 26 students who achieved a score of less than 70 as the limit for complete understanding, while 4 students scored more than 70. The average score for students' speaking ability through video blogs was 54.33%. Meanwhile, in cycle II, 2 students got a score of less than 70, while 28 students got a score of more than 70. The average score for students' speaking ability through video blogs was 80.28%. After conducting classroom action research at Bunga Mawar Gunungsitoli Private Middle School, this provides an illustration that learning using media through video blogs has improved students' speaking skills, especially in class VII at Bunga Mawar Gunungsitoli.

Abstract

Vocabulary is the most important component of the overall communicative competence that enables students to convey information, ideas or notions to others in such written and oral form. Vocabulary mastery is the ability to use the words in conducting the communication and understanding the meaning of the words or phrases in English. The research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. This research was applied into two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. In the second meeting of cycle II, the researcher obtained the improvement of students, who achieved the Minimum Competence Criterion (70). There were 14 (53%) students who got score among 85-100 classified as “Very Good Criteria”, 12 (42%) students got score among 75-84 classified as “Good Criteria”. Based on the result above the researcher concludes that How Special Am I Game could be done in teaching vocabulary and increasing the students’ ability in mastering vocabulary.

Abstract

Speaking was one of the essential skills in language learning. It was necessary to communicated effectively in a language. When students speak English they do not explore their speaking skills because of a lack of knowledge in speaking. Therefore, to minimize students' speaking problems, the researcher apply board games as a medium to increase students' speaking ability. The purpose of the research is to increase the students’ speaking ability through Board Game at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Lahewa Timur which the total numbers of the students was 20 persons. The research was conducted by using Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. This research was applied into two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The instruments used by the researcher to collect the data were observation sheet, test and field note. From the result of each cycle, the researcher finds that the students get an improvement in their speaking through Board Game. At the second meeting of cycle II the researcher obtained an increase in students, that students overall reached MCC (70).

Abstract

Reading comprehension is the process and activity of understanding all reading texts that include vocabulary and concepts, making conclusions, and connecting key ideas, in addition, readers will get ideas or meanings from written texts. One of the problems found by researchers is that students can’t understand the whole of each word. The purpose of this study is to improve students' reading comprehension using the Discovery Learning method in the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 1 Gido in the 2022/2023 academic year. Researchers use Classroom Action Research (CAR), especially Quantitative Methods as a research method. There are two cycles, each cycle consists of two meetings. Each meeting consist of planning, action, observation and reflection. Data were collected by researchers from observation results, field notes and evaluation papers. From the results of the study in each cycle, it has been shown that students have improved by using the Discovery Learning Method. In Cycle I students failed, the average student score was 46.8. In Cycle II all students successfully passed the Minimum Competency Criteria. The average students score was 88.6. The researchers concluded that the best way to improve students' Reading comprehension is to use the Discovery Learning Method. Therefore, the researchers has several recommendations such as the researchers recommends students and teachers to use the Discovery Learning method to improve their reading comprehension, finally the researchers recommends all readers especially to the next researchers to explore Reading comprehension that has not been explored by the researchers in this study. ABSTRAKPemahaman membaca adalah proses dan aktivitas untuk memahami semua teks bacaan yang mencakup kosa kata dan konsep, membuat kesimpulan, dan menghubungkan ide-ide kunci, di samping itu pembaca akan mendapatkan ide atau makna dari teks tertulis. Salah satu masalah yang ditemukan peneliti adalah siswa tidak dapat memahami keseluruhan setiap kata. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperbaiki pemahaman membaca siswa dengan menggunakan metode Discovery Learning di kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Gido tahun 2022/2023. Peneliti menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) khususnya metode kuantitatif sebagai metode penelitian. Ada dua siklus yang siklusnya terdiri dari dua pertemuan. Setiap pertemuan terdiri dari perencanaan, tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Data dikumpulkan oleh peneliti dari hasil observasi, catatan lapangan dan lembar evaluasi. Dari hasil penelitian di setiap siklus, telah ditunjukkan bahwa siswa mendapatkan peningkatan dengan menggunakan Metode Discovery Learning. Pada Siklus I siswa gagal, nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 46, 8. Pada Siklus II semua siswa berhasil melewati Kriteria Kompetensi Minimal. Nilai rata-rata siswa adalah 88,6. Para peneliti menyimpulkan cara terbaik untuk memperbaiki pemahaman membaca siswa adalah menggunakan Metode Discovery Learning. Oleh karena itu, peneliti memiliki beberapa rekomendasi seperti peneliti merekomendasikan siswa dan guru menggunakan metode Discovery Learning untuk memperbaiki pemahaman membaca mereka, akhirnya peneliti merekomendasikan semua pembaca terutama kepada peneliti berikutnya untuk mengeksplorasi pemahaman membaca yang belum dieksplorasi oleh peneliti dalam penelitian ini.

Abstract

This study aims to develop visual prompts in the form of videos using the Research and Development (R&D) approach with the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The use of visual prompts in videos aims to improve learning effectiveness and facilitate user understanding. At the Define stage, a needs analysis and problem identification were conducted to determine the objectives and content of the video. At the Design stage, video scenarios and designs are developed by considering visual elements and messages to be conveyed. The Develop stage involves creating video prototypes using supporting technology and software, namely the Canva application, as well as initial testing to obtain feedback. Finally, the Disseminate stage involved video distribution and end-user evaluation to measure the success of the development. The results showed that the visual prompt video was able to significantly increase students’ engagement and comprehension, thus having a positive impact to the increasing speaking performance in learning process
