Abstract

Having a child with an intellectual disability is a challenge for parents, especially in terms of parenting which is different from parenting a typical child. Children with intellectual disabilities have limitations in intellectual and adaptive functions which cause children to need assistance from their parents. This condition can be a stressor that triggers parenting stress in parents. There are several factors that influence the parenting stress experienced by parents of children with intellectual disabilities, both in terms of the characteristics of the child and the parents. This study aims to determine differences in levels of parenting stress among parents of children with intellectual disabilities based on demographics. This research is a quantitative study involving 208 parents using a simple random sampling technique. The results of the comparative test analysis show that there are differences in the level of parenting stress based on gender and parental occupation (Sig. 2-tailed 0.000; p0.05) with the majority of parents having a moderate level of parenting stress (33.2%).

Abstract

Abstract

Currently, most people are starting to realize the importance of mental health, including Generation Z. This makes counseling services increasingly needed to deal with complaints related to mental health. Technological developments have facilitated the emergence of platforms that provide online counseling services so that they can be accessed by everyone, especially Generation Z. This study aims to find out the experience of using online counseling services for Generation Z so that later they can be used as evaluation material in improving and developing online counseling services. This research is qualitative research using the constructive realism method in the form of an open-ended survey that is distributed online. The survey was made to find out what platforms or websites were used by respondents, what was the respondent's experience in using online counseling, respondents' reasons for choosing online counseling, what were respondents' expectations of online counseling services, services that had met respondents' expectations, the quality of the platform used, the quality of psychologists in providing online counseling services, perceived advantages, and disadvantages of online counseling, as well as ways to improve the quality of online counseling services according to respondents. Thematic analysis was carried out on data from 33 respondents who had accessed online counseling. The majority of respondents expect that online counseling will provide a solution to their problems. Based on the research conducted, 51.5% of respondents considered that there was good quality in terms of the platform they used and 42.4% of respondents considered that there was good quality in terms of the psychological services they received. In addition, as many as 54.5% of respondents also had good experiences when accessing online counseling services from the platforms they used. Online counseling services were chosen because they are considered cheaper, have more secure privacy, have more flexible timing, can be accessed anywhere, and minimizes the negative stigma they receive when consulting about perceived complaints. On the other hand, online counseling has several limitations, such as the duration of counseling which tends to be short, psychologists who are felt to be less professional, and limitations on platform features that need to be improved.

Abstract

Asia currently bears the highest global burden of dementia, with 22.9 million cases—more than double the figures reported in Europe and the Americas. Given this catastrophic figure and the disadvantages of dementia for older people and caregivers, intervention focuses on prevention and maintaining cognitive function and well-being is needed. This study explores the effectiveness of Art Therapy on maintaining cognitive function and decelerating cognitive declines for older people with dementia in Asia. A systematic literature review and meta-analysis were conducted to evaluate the cognitive outcomes of art therapy interventions among older adults with dementia in Asia. In doing so, we meticulously selected and reviewed a total of 242 publications, and analysed 5 papers which addressed the poses of research aims. The review examined intervention characteristics, demographic data, and cognitive outcome measures, while meta-analysis using Hedges' g was conducted to determine effect sizes. Art therapy involves numerous activities, such as drawing, colouring, music, collage-making, and reminiscence therapy applies a holistic approach, and typically facilitated by qualified professionals. The interventions demonstrated a holistic and structured approach aimed at enhancing psychological and cognitive well-being. The meta-analysis revealed a statistically significant overall effect on cognitive function (Hedges’ g = 0.586, p < .001), indicating that art therapy can meaningfully improve cognitive performance in older adults with dementia. The robustness of this finding was supported by a high Fail-safe N (n = 2341), suggesting strong resistance to publication bias. This study highlights compelling evidence that art therapy is an effective intervention for supporting cognitive health among older adults with dementia in Asia. Despite certain limitations—such as small sample size, short intervention durations, and lack of stratified analysis by dementia severity—the findings underscore the practical relevance of integrating art therapy into individual and community-level care. Future research should emphasize long-term follow-ups, standardized measures, and broader demographic representation to enhance the generalizability and impact of findings. For the practical implication, art therapy as a cognitive intervention can be applied to individual private practices and community activities for older people

Abstract

Previous studies on older widows have focused on the negative aspects of spousal loss, such as loneliness, anxiety, and depression, positioning them as vulnerable groups. This perspective tends to overlook the potential of older widows in achieving successful aging. This study aimed to map the concepts within the scope of positive psychology that have been applied in research on older widows, and to explore how these approaches can support healthy and successful aging. A literature search was conducted on Google Scholar, covering publications from 2016 to 2025. A total of 9,480 articles were identified and screened based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. After reviewing abstracts and full texts, eight articles were included in this scoping review. There is a consistent pattern: older widows can achieve successful aging through positive psychology and spirituality. However, several contradictions between concepts were found, particularly regarding the sources of emotional resilience, between external social support and internal spiritual strength. Views on the meaning of life also vary, rooted in past achievements and acceptance of painful experiences and present hopes. Adaptation is described through both active (autoplastic adaptation) and passive (surrender to fate) approaches. Optimism is often considered a universal strength, but it has not been widely studied in the context of the socioeconomic limitations faced by older widows. The integration of intrapersonal aspects, e.g., resilience, meaning in life, well-being, and optimism, along with social and spiritual dimensions, including social support and spirituality, contributes to helping older widows achieve successful aging.

Abstract

In Bali, partner selection remains an important issue since it is still influenced by a cultural factor that is the existence of the catur wangsa (four-caste) system. Wangsa has means descendant. Catur wangsa (four castes) are divided into four, namely Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. Balinese women who occupy the top caste that is Brahmin would be more selective in choosing a partner for fear of their family’s attitude towards them if they are nyerod, meaning having a marriage where the wangsa (caste) of the woman is higher than that of her partner. The parenting styles applied by parents have a role in decision making when individuals choose their partners. Authoritative parenting style is an effective parenting style because it applies stability properly between acceptance/responsiveness and demandingness/control. This study aims to determine the relationship between authoritative parenting style and the tendency of homogamy in partner selection by young adult women from the Brahmin caste. The subjects used in this study were women from the Brahmin caste, aged 20 to 30 years old, unmarried, and residing in Denpasar. The number of subjects used was as 60 people. The authoritative-parenting-scale reliability was 0.939 and the tendency-of-homogamy-in-partner-selection-scale reliability was 0.948 . The result of the normality test on the authoritative parenting was 0.899 and the result of the normality test on the tendency of homogamy in partner selection was 0.199. The linearity test result on the authoritative parenting towards the tendency of homogamy in partner selection was 0.000. The analytical methods used was the product moment correlation analysis. The correlation result in this study was 0.575 (p=0.000). Based on these results, it was found out that there is a relationship between authoritative parenting and the tendency of homogamy in partner selection by young adult women from the Brahmin caste in Denpasar.
