Abstract

Students have difficulty solving math story problems because they do not understand the context and do not know how to start, due to conventional learning and lack of connection with real experiences. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the RME approach on students' problem-solving abilities in solving story problems. The study was conducted in grade IV of SD Negeri 36 Sorong City using a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The instruments used included test questions (pretest and posttest), learning implementation observation sheets, student activity observation sheets, RME syntax implementation sheets, and student response questionnaires. Data analysis techniques in this study were normality tests, paired sample t-tests and -gain tests, then learning outcome completeness tests. The results showed an increase in problem-solving abilities after the implementation of the RME approach. The average posttest score was higher than the pretest, and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test results showed a significance of 0.000 <0.05, which means there was a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. The N-Gain value of 0.5750 is included in the moderate category. The classical learning completion rate reached 84% and was in the very good category. The implementation of learning and RME syntax each achieved an average of above 85%, which is included in the very good category. Student activity also showed high results, with the majority of students in the active and very active categories. The results of the student response questionnaire showed that all students gave a positive response to the learning. Based on these results, the RME approach has proven effective in improving students' problem-solving abilities in solving mathematical story problems on the topic of measuring units of length.

Abstract

This research uses Netboard.me-based learning media with experimental research type, one-group pretest posttest design with quantitative descriptive methods which aims to measure how much influence Netboard.me-based multimodal interactive digital learning has in improving collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills. The data in this research was taken through pretest-posttest and non-test results in the form of observation sheets, self-assessment questionnaires and student responses. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that students collaborated and communicated very well through observations, the self-assessment questionnaire got the highest results of 90% in giving, listening and supporting ideas, as well as sharing ideas and thoughts with others. Very good criteria are obtained in conveying opinions in writing clearly and concisely through a communication skills self-assessment questionnaire. Student responses to Netboard.me-based learning media obtained very very good criteria, namely 91% for interest and 95% for language use. Based on the results of the assessment of critical thinking skills indicators in the pretest and posttest results, students showed a significant increase in the average percentage of indicators. The N-Gain results obtained 59.2552% which is included in the quite effective category. The results of the two paired sample t-test show an increase in critical thinking skills through multimodal interactive digital learning based on netboard.me. So, interactive digital learning media based on Netboard.me can improve collaboration, communication and critical thinking skills

Abstract

Traditional mathematics instruction has often been insufficient in fostering essential twenty-first-century competencies, particularly students’ collaborative and creative thinking skills. Addressing this challenge, this study aimed to develop and evaluate a Wordwall-integrated multimodal digital mathematics textbook designed to enhance these competencies among elementary school students. The development process was guided by the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) instructional design framework. Following expert validation, the textbook was implemented using a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 20 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through expert validation instruments, practicality questionnaires, collaboration observation rubrics, and a standardized creative thinking assessment. The validation results demonstrated a high level of feasibility across media (95%), content (90%), and instructional design (92%) dimensions. Practicality evaluations further indicated highly positive responses from teachers and students, with an overall mean score of 95.5%. Effectiveness analysis revealed notable improvements in students’ learning outcomes and twenty-first-century competencies, with collaboration skills reaching a high category (70.0%) and creative thinking skills showing moderate improvement (N-gain = 0.60). Furthermore, posttest scores were significantly higher than pretest scores (p < .001), indicating meaningful learning gains following the intervention. These findings suggest that Wordwall-integrated multimodal digital textbooks can serve as an effective instructional resource for promoting collaborative and creative thinking skills in elementary mathematics education and provide empirical support for the integration of multimodal and gamified learning environments in mathematics classrooms.
