Abstract

Antiretroviral (ARV) therapy does not only provide some benefits but also has side effects that cause symptoms experienced by people with HIV (PWH). Strategies for effective symptom management were needed, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study was to explore the symptom experience and management strategies in PWH during the COVID-19 pandemic. A qualitative phenomenology design was used. A cross-sectional with purposive and snowball sampling techniques was used from July to October 2021. Eight participants joined an in-depth interview based on the criteria of the participants, such as people who were infected with HIV, 18 years or older, on ARV therapy, and willing to sign the informed consent. Thematic analysis was used after data saturation was reached. Three themes were found in this study; 1) The symptoms of ARV side effects, which included physical and psychological symptoms that appeared in PWH; 2) The symptom management of ARV side effects, which described the history of hospitalization, pharmacological and non-pharmacological management; 3) The symptom condition during the COVID-19 pandemic. The symptom experience of ARV side effects required strategies to manage the appearance of the symptoms, especially those amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This study could become fundamental evidence to consider in providing nursing care to PWH and supporting the symptom management model among PWH further.

Abstract

The needs for an Indonesian version of a tool to measure internalized HIV stigma are identified. This study aims to evaluate the reliability of the Indonesian version of Sayles Internalized HIV Stigma Scale and the correlation of each subscale. A cross-sectional preliminary study involving purposively sampled 20 persons infected with HIV in Bali, Indonesia was conducted. The internal consistency reliability was examined through Cronbach’s α and item-total correlation. Meanwhile, the correlation of each subscale was examined by using Spearman’s Rank correlation coefficient. The results showed a Cronbach’s α of 0.924 and the item-total correlation range from 0.151 to 0.837. Significant positive correlation between overall scale and each subscale were confirmed. These findings indicated acceptable reliability of the Indonesian version of Sayles Internalized HIV Stigma Scale and the possibility of its use as an alternative to assess the internalized HIV stigma in Indonesia.

Abstract

The right perception of HIV-AIDS by the community of tourist villages can lead to the motivation to identify their HIV status. A tourist village has zero case of HIV-AIDS will have a positive impact on the health conditions of the tourist village community and increase in tourist visits. This study aims to determine the correlation between HIV-AIDS perceptions and the motivation for HIV testing in the tourist village community of Sayan Ubud, Bali. Descriptive correlation design with a cross-sectional approach was used in this study. The sample size was 353 respondents who were taken by proportionate random sampling. Spearman rank correlation test was used for data analysis. The result showed a correlated HIV-AIDS perception and HIV testing motivation (p=0.000; r=0.611). A better perception of HIV-AIDS leads to increased HIV testing motivation in the community. This study can be used as basic data in the preventive programme of new HIV cases through HIV testing services. Thus, the Sayan Ubud tourist village community can identify their HIV status without any negative stigma.

Abstract

Background: Monitoring of infusion fluid therapy is carried out continuously as an effort to prevent embolism and nosocomial phlebitis. Nurses who are less than optimal and have inadequate numbers in controlling and monitoring the infusion system mean that the infusion system for each patient cannot be controlled continuously because the workload is high and many patients have to be monitored.Purpose: This literature review discusses various Internet of Things (IoT)-based infusion monitoring device systems related to accuracy and effectiveness in optimizing nurse work performance. Methods: Several journals search databases were used, such as ProQuest, IEEE Xplore, SAGE Journals, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied using the Boolean Logic and PICOT methods. Inclusion criteria were original articles discussing IoT-based infusion monitoring, English language, and full-text articles. The exclusion criteria applied were articles in the form of reviews. Results: This literature review used 10 international journals published in 2014-2024. To assess the quality of the literature, we use the Checklist from JBI Critical Appraisal Tools. The IoT-based infusion monitoring device system is accurate and reliable for monitoring infusions. Accuracy is presented quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitatively, it shows a range of 88%-100%. Meanwhile, qualitatively stated accuracy means that the device can count infusion drops reliably and accurately. Thus, this IoT-based infusion monitoring system can optimize nurse performance. Conclusion: Accurate and reliable IoT monitoring system devices are able to support the optimization of nurse performance by monitoring and sending signals and information to nurses as users.
