This paper examines character education as discussed through Kitab Adab al-‘Alim wa al-Muta’allim by the founder of the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia, Nahdlatul Ulama, Kiai Hasyim Asy’ari (1871-1947). It tries to locates character education as the transformation of Muslim subjects as the foundation of social piety. The article further argues that Kiai Hasyim Asy’ari through his work had laid a comprehensive Islamic values that are parallel to principles of character education. The core values of Islamic character education centers on the notions of rabbaniyah (godness), insaniyah (humanity), wasathiyyah (moderateness) and waqi’iyyah (reality). Therefore, Kitab Adab al-‘Alim wa al-Muta’allim reserves as a pesantren-based character education with a particular reference of creating a Muslim subject with social-piety element.

This study delves into the spiritual lives of Indonesian female migrant workers in Taiwan. It uncovers how these workers actively engage in pengajian (Islamic study sessions) to address spiritual needs. The research question in this study is how do pengajian contribute to fulfilling spiritual needs, strengthening communication networks, and forming national identity for Indonesian women migrant workers in Taiwan. This research uses a qualitative approach with an online data collection method, involving in-depth interviews with the management of the pengajian and participatory observation of its activities of Indonesian women migrant workers in Taiwan. The research reveals that these gatherings facilitate everyday Islamic jurisprudence studies, sufism moral introspection, Quranic learning, and salawat recitations. Additionally, these sessions foster robust communication networks among workers, enhancing their information exchange, relationships, and discussions. In uncertain conditions, these gatherings provide ideological reinforcement, social engagement, and a sense of national identity. The study suggests potential future research avenues in education and political ideology of these migrant workers.

Pesantren education is experiencing a paradigm shift that deviates from Arkanul Ma'had due to the times and social changes. This condition requires a reorientation of pesantren education to remain relevant and effective in facing future challenges. This study aims to critically examine the thoughts of Zamakhsyari Dhofier and Abdurahman Mas'ud in the context of reorienting pesantren education in East Java. This research uses a qualitative approach with document analysis as the main method. Through literature study and analysis of the thoughts of Zamakhsyari Dhofier and Abdurahman Mas'ud, this research highlights the relevance and applicability of their thoughts in the context of reorienting pesantren education in East Java. The results revealed that Zamakhsyari Dhofier provided important insights regarding the renewal and adjustment of pesantren curriculum to meet modern needs, while Abdurahman Mas'ud emphasized the importance of integrating religious and general knowledge in pesantren education. The results of this study make a significant contribution to the understanding of the reorientation of pesantren education in this region. The implications of this research can be the basis for policy making and the development of pesantren education strategies that are more effective and relevant to the needs of the times, as well as enriching scientific studies and the treasures of pesantren education in Indonesia.

The Indonesian Muslim diaspora maintains both social and Islamic identities in their host countries. In this context, numerous studies indicate that the quest for identity generates divisions among Muslims and might, to some degree, incite disputes and rivalries. This article contradicts that assertion. We collected data during a participatory experience in community service activities grounded in Assets-Based Community Development (ABCD) at two Indonesian Muslim organizations in Australia, specifically AIMF-ACT and IMCV. This article, utilizing the qualitative case study technique, reveals that members of both organizations possess a dynamic sense of community. Amidst the diversity of identities present in each individual, a sense of unity emerges. The sense of community derives from geographical linkages and a collective commitment to the significance of practicing Islam within a diverse context. Although not all members realize it, awareness of the variety of Islamic expressions is rising, which gives rise to a new optimism that variations in how Muslims practice Islam can increase social cohesiveness rather than inevitably cause conflict and hostility. This article categorizes prior theories regarding the sense of community, including the perspectives of David W. McMillan and David M. Chavis.

The educational curriculum in Indonesia is very dynamic. Curriculum changes occur because it adapts to the times and society. This flexibility follows a growing era and increasingly sophisticated technology or is related to problems in a country. This paper examines the influence of the Covid-19 Pandemic which has spread to Indonesia, causing the government to create an emergency curriculum for the smooth running of the learning system. Learning is usually done face-to-face in a place, but now takes place face-to-face with a distance and relies on the existence of communication technology. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive-analytical approach with data sources from various educational institutions both based on Islam and the general public. Data obtained from educators by in-depth interviews. The results of the study explain that the impact of this learning system change on the learning process, understanding of a lesson, and the character of students. Changes in the curriculum during the pandemic were not completely, but rather in the design of learning by educators that included methods, media, to evaluation and the time used. Synergy and good communication are needed between the institution, educators, students and parents so that there are no problems that hinder learning.

For some reason, the religious needs’ fulfillment of the diffable communities was not in line with the supply from both government and non-government institutions. This is inseparable from the impartiality of policies and low awareness, as well as a lack of public awareness of the rights of disabled communities. As a result, the negative stigma of being a non-productive community as well as ghair mukallaf (free of religious burdens) is still attached to them. The Taman Pendidikan al-Qur’an Spirit Da'wah Indonesia Foundation (TPQLB SPIDI) Tulungagung, which is the focus of this study, is one of the institutions that believe that their involvement is the answer to these needs, inequality, and slanted views. This institution survives and even continues to grow and steal the public's attention. This article is a record of community empowerment based on the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) method with an emphasis on the analysis of organizational resilience in a sociological perspective. As a non-profit and non-governmental organization, TPQLB SPIDI can be resilient to several factors, such as mindful action, performance optimization, adaptive innovation, and paradoxical thinking. In addition, it is also supported by adequate social capital.
