Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic divides the attitudes of pesantren residents into three categories: very strict, very loose and moderate (tawassut). This moderate attitude is found in Pesma Al-Hikam and Pesantren Sabilurrosyad in Malang City. This article uses a qualitative approach, then analyzed from the perspective of Pierre Bourdieu’s capital theory. The purpose is to describe how the attitudes, mindset, and residents’ behavior of Pesantren Tangguh related to symbolic, cultural, social, and economic modalities, to control the pandemic crisis. The findings of this article are Pesma Al-Hikam and Pesantren Sabilurrosyad as Pesantren Tangguh are representations of moderate Islamic educational institutions during the Covid-19 pandemic in terms of Bourdieu’s capital theory. First, the nationalist-religious; adaptive and inclusive; and philosophical-rational character in terms of symbolic capital. Second, the theological view that combines destiny and endeavors harmoniously; an elastic and comparative view of Islamic law; and Sufistic behavior that combines ritual and social worship in terms of cultural capital. Third, the behaviour of pesantren residents who remain active in carrying out activities at the pesantren but are disciplined in complying with health protocols in terms of social capital. Fourth, the economic independence of the pesantren in fulfilling the needs and social assistance to the peripheral community in terms of economic capital. In summary, the residents of Pesantren Tangguh show moderate character in aspects of attitude, mindset, and behavior related to symbolic, cultural, social, and economic modalities, enabling the pesantren residents to be able to control the Covid-19 pandemic crisis well.

Abstract

Peningkatan kualitas pendidikan, khususnya pendidikan Islam, adalah fondasi penting bagi pembangunan bangsa. Dalam pendidikan Islam, terdapat tiga pilar utama yang membentuk dasar pendidikan: tauhid, akhlak, dan ibadah. Pilar tauhid menekankan pemahaman dan keyakinan terhadap keesaan Allah, konsep dasar tentang Tuhan, kenabian, kitab suci, malaikat, dan takdir. Pendidikan tauhid dimulai dari lingkungan keluarga dan diperkuat di institusi pendidikan formal, seperti Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, untuk menanamkan keimanan yang kokoh sejak dini. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk menciptakan sistem pendidikan yang tidak hanya mendidik secara akademis tetapi juga membangun karakter dan nilai-nilai Islam yang kuat pada siswa melalui pendekatan integrasi pilar yang diaplikasikan. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan studi pustaka dengan menelaah berbagai tulisan yang ada. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa integrasi ketiga pilar ini dalam pendidikan Islam menciptakan kesatuan yang utuh dalam pembentukan karakter individu. Pendidikan yang mengintegrasikan tauhid, akhlak, dan ibadah menghasilkan siswa yang tidak hanya berpengetahuan tentang ajaran Islam tetapi juga memiliki karakter yang kuat, seimbang, dan mampu menerapkan nilai-nilai Islam dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Dengan demikian, diharapkan dapat mencetak generasi yang siap menghadapi tantangan zaman modern dengan landasan iman, moralitas, dan praktik ibadah yang kokoh.

Abstract

Pesantren education is experiencing a paradigm shift that deviates from Arkanul Ma'had due to the times and social changes. This condition requires a reorientation of pesantren education to remain relevant and effective in facing future challenges. This study aims to critically examine the thoughts of Zamakhsyari Dhofier and Abdurahman Mas'ud in the context of reorienting pesantren education in East Java. This research uses a qualitative approach with document analysis as the main method. Through literature study and analysis of the thoughts of Zamakhsyari Dhofier and Abdurahman Mas'ud, this research highlights the relevance and applicability of their thoughts in the context of reorienting pesantren education in East Java. The results revealed that Zamakhsyari Dhofier provided important insights regarding the renewal and adjustment of pesantren curriculum to meet modern needs, while Abdurahman Mas'ud emphasized the importance of integrating religious and general knowledge in pesantren education. The results of this study make a significant contribution to the understanding of the reorientation of pesantren education in this region. The implications of this research can be the basis for policy making and the development of pesantren education strategies that are more effective and relevant to the needs of the times, as well as enriching scientific studies and the treasures of pesantren education in Indonesia.

Abstract

Multicultural problems that often arise in Indonesia are conflicts between religions and within religions themselves. Various kinds of religious conflicts have adorned social life in Indonesia as a pluralistic country. These problems arise due to internal factors of bigotry of the religious adherents themselves, while extemal factors arise from various aspects, such as political, economic and social. This research aims to find out 1) History and multicultural values in the events of the Medina charter, 2) The role of an independent cumiculum in implementing multicultural education; and 3) The relevance of multicultural education values in the events of the Medina charter and the independent cuniculum for Islamic education in the multicultural era. This research uses a qualitative research approach with the type of library research by collecting various sources of information, both from books, joumal articles, reports and other sources of information that can support a comprehensive understanding of the research topic. The results showed that 1) The event of the Medina charter is a form of the Prophet Muhammad's serious efforts in realizing the value of tolerance. Where the purpose of the Prophet Muhammad SAW migrated to Medina for the mission of peace and justice for the people of Medina; 2) Strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile (P5) is an effort to internalize an understanding of the concept of multiculturalism, especially those contained in one of the main dimensions of the P5 program, namely the "Global Diversity" dimension; and 3) The multicultural values of the Medina charter event and the independent curiculum have a strong relevance by prioritizing multicultural principles that teach the value of unity, democratic values, tolerance values, equal rights values, as well as the value of empathy and sympathy for multi-ethnic and multi-religious diversity.

Abstract

Public relations management in schools must work actively in efforts to improve school branding. Moreover, the current conditions of the development of the era of globalization and increasingly tight school competition. Schools must also innovate in creating their school's characteristics. Madrasas has a unique school program, namely the Gerbang program (enthusiasm for foreign languages). This program not only improves foreign language skills but also contributes to forming the school's identity or brand. Therefore, it is necessary to improve public relations through this Gerbang program to improve school branding. The purpose of the study was to determine, the public relations management process in an effort to improve school branding through the Gerbang program. Public relations model of madrasas in efforts to improve school branding in the implementation of the Gerbang program. Implications of the Gerbang program in efforts to improve school branding. The type of research in this study is a case study with a qualitative approach. The impact is increasing the attractiveness of prospective students, increasing achievement, increasing the reputation of the sekolah, increasing student confidence, increasing social media followers.

Abstract

This research examines the relevance of character education from the perspectives of Al-Ghazali and William James in the 40-Day Ta'aruf Programme at Al-Yasini Integrated Islamic Boarding School, Pasuruan. This programme aims to help new santri adapt to pesantren life while forming religious and independent characters. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study explores the implementation of the programme and its relationship with Al-Ghazali's theory of character education which emphasises tazkiyatun nafs, habituation to worship, and good manners, and William James' psychology of religion which highlights religious experience as a transformational personal process. The results show that the 40-Day Ta'aruf Program is effective in shaping religious character through habituation of worship, internalisation of moral values, and independence training. In addition, this programme helps santri develop psychological resilience and emotional and social adaptability, as described by William James. In conclusion, the integration of Al-Ghazali and William James' perspectives in this programme proves that a spirituality-based approach has a significant role in individual character building. These findings provide recommendations for the development of faith-based character education in various educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the leadership thought of Istibsyaroh, a female Islamic boarding school figure from Jombang, East Java, and its relevance in addressing leadership challenges in the Society 5.0 era. The issue of female leadership in this context remains a subject of debate, particularly concerning gender equality, the interpretation of Sharia law, and adaptation to modern technological advancements. Using a qualitative approach and a descriptive-analytical method, this study examines literature encompassing Istibsyaroh’s works, insights, and contributions, as well as the concept of female leadership in Sharia law and Society 5.0. The analysis reveals the interconnection between the qualifications of an ideal leader in the Society 5.0 era, Islamic perspectives on female leadership, and Istibsyaroh’s thoughts. The findings indicate that Istibsyaroh asserts women's right to hold political positions as long as they adhere to Islamic law, as there is no explicit evidence prohibiting female leadership in politics and governance. Through a critical review of thematic Quranic exegesis (tafsīr mawḍū‘ī) regarding scholars’ differing views on women’s political rights and leadership, it can be concluded that Islam provides space for women to engage in political leadership. Istibsyaroh’s leadership thought offers a model that emphasizes the synergy between Islamic values, gender justice, and adaptive skills in technology and global dynamics, making it relevant to addressing the complex leadership challenges of the Society 5.0 era.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemikiran kepemimpinan Istibsyaroh, seorang tokoh perempuan pesantren dari Jombang, Jawa Timur. serta relevansinya dalam menjawab tantangan kepemimpinan di era Society 5.0. Isu kepemimpinan perempuan dalam konteks ini masih menjadi perdebatan, terutama terkait keadilan gender, interpretasi hukum syariah, dan adaptasi terhadap perkembangan teknologi modern. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan metode deskriptif-analitis, penelitian ini mengkaji literatur yang mencakup karya, wawasan, dan kontribusi Istibsyaroh, serta konsep kepemimpinan perempuan dalam hukum syariah dan Society 5.0. Analisis ini mengungkap keterkaitan antara kualifikasi pemimpin ideal di era Society 5.0, perspektif Islam tentang kepemimpinan perempuan, dan pemikiran Istibsyaroh. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Istibsyaroh menegaskan hak perempuan untuk menduduki jabatan politik selama berpegang teguh pada syariat Islam, karena tidak ada dalil eksplisit yang melarang kepemimpinan perempuan di bidang politik dan pemerintahan. Dari tinjauan kritis terhadap kajian tafsīr mawḍū‘ī (tematik) mengenai perbedaan pandangan ulama tentang hak-hak politik perempuan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Islam memberikan ruang bagi perempuan untuk berperan dalam kepemimpinan politik. Pemikiran kepemimpinan Istibsyaroh menawarkan model yang menekankan sinergi antara nilai-nilai keislaman, keadilan gender, serta keterampilan adaptif terhadap teknologi dan dinamika global, menjadikannya relevan untuk menghadapi tantangan kepemimpinan di era Society 5.0.

Abstract

A sequence of radicalism movements in Indonesia have drawn international attention, especially the Ambon-Poso conflict and the Bali bombings, due to the fact that the perpetrators have established Lingkar Perdamaian Foundation (YLP) in Lamongan. YLP was established to protect society from extremist organizations and to promote love for the Republic of Indonesia. What becomes the main concern of this study is the implementation of religious moderation in YLP. Therefore, this article aims at finding out: (1) The strategies implemented by YLP to internalize religious moderation values, (2) The internalization process of moderation values in YLP and (3) The impacts obtained from the process. The research implemented descriptive qualitative design through field observations at YLP, interviews with YLP founder and members as well as documentation from related publications. The results obtained are: (1) The strategies used are indoor, outdoor, and humanistic. (2) The value of moderation is internalized through 5 stages, namely the radical stage, confrontation with reality, openness of perspective, reorientation of values and contributions (3) The impacts show that members can involve in active social interactions with society, get decent work and help deradicalization program. Serangkaian gerakan radikalisme yang terjaadi di Indonesia menarik perhatian dunia, terutama konflik Ambon-Poso dan serentetan Bom Bali. Hal ini karena pelaku dari aksi-aksi tersebut membentuk sebuah yayasan yang bernama Yayasan Lingkar Perdamaian (YLP) di Lamongan. YLP ini sengaja didirikan untuk menumbuhkan cinta NKRI dan meninggalkan kelompok radikal. Disamping itu, topik terhangat di masyarakat adalah moderasi beragama yang menggelitik peneliti untuk mencaritahu penerapannya di YLP. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui: (1) Strategi yang diterapkan YLP untuk menginternalisasikan nilai moderasi beragama kepada anggota YLP, (2) Proses internalisasi nilai moderasi beragama kepada anggota YLP dan (3) Dampak yang dihasilkan dari proses internalisasi nilai moderasi beragama itu. Peneliti menggunakan desain deskriptif kualitatif melalui observasi lapangan di YLP, wawancara dengan pendiri dan anggota YLP serta dokumentasi dari publikasi terkait. Hasil penelitian yaitu (1) Strategi yang digunakan meliputi indoor, outdoor dan humanistik. (2) Proses internalisasi nilai-nilai moderasi beragama meliputi lima tahapan: tahap radikal, tahap konfrontasi dengan realitas, tahap pembukaan perspektif, tahap reorientasi nilai dan tahap kontribusi. (3) Dampak yang dihasilkan yaitu anggota YLP dapat aktif bermasyarakat, memperoleh pekerjaan yang layak dan membantu pemerintah dalam program deradikalisasi. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada teori lima tahapan dalam proses perubahan dari radikal ke nasionalis yang terintegrasi nilai-nilai moderasi beragama.
