Abstract

Abstract

Scavenging has been the object of scientific and academic research based on various scientific viewpoints worldwide. Still, the issue of the double burden that is experienced by women scavengers and its impact on gender inequality and women's productivity has received less attention. This research aims to explore further the effects of double burden or dual responsibility burdened by women scavengers in Komunitas Pemulung Pasir Panjang Kota Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), to gender inequality and the productivity of women scavengers in that community. This research employed a qualitative approach including field observation and in-depth interviews. This research has found that the phenomena of double burden does not liberate women scavengers from the patriarchal chain that binds and restrains them, but instead makes them increasingly dependent on men in the economic and financial dimension of household life. In addition, they are caught in a dilemma between maximizing the option of working outside the home or taking care of their domestic work. As a consequence of the long-standing and strong internalization of a false awareness about women's natural duties, those women scavengers do not think of this as an injustice but rather an obligation that must be carried out properly and consistently.

Abstract

This study examines the potential integration of the Gemohing cultural values of the Lamaholot community into a blue economy management model in Hamlet III Mekko, Pledo Village, Witihama District, East Flores Regency. Gemohing values, which reflect the spirit of mutual cooperation, deliberation, solidarity, and fair benefit sharing, have historically developed in land-based activities but have strategic relevance for marine and coastal resource management. The research method combines a qualitative approach through literature review, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with key stakeholders, including local government, village government, traditional leaders, and the Bajo community. The results show that the Bajo community faces socio-economic challenges such as structural poverty, low access to education, limited institutional capacity, and minimal participation in decision-making. Although Mekko has high ecological and marine tourism potential, its utilization has not been optimal due to weak coordination between stakeholders and limited infrastructure. The proposed Gemohing-based management model positions the community as the main actor through participatory mechanisms, proportional benefit sharing, and cross-sector collaboration, thus potentially improving economic welfare while maintaining the sustainability of the marine ecosystem.

Abstract

The Etu traditional boxing tradition is a form of local wisdom of the Wulu people of Wuliwalo Village, Nagekeo Regency, NTT. It symbolizes courage, social solidarity, and customary conflict resolution. However, this tradition faces challenges due to modernization and declining interest from the younger generation. The aim of this study is to identify local values contained in Etu, analyze the revitalization strategies carried out by the community, and evaluate the role of Etu in the development of cultural tourism. The method used was descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The research location was in Wulu, Wuliwalo Village, Mauponggo District, Nagekeo Regency. The research results show that Etu still holds strong cultural significance, embodied in the values of restrained courage, restorative solidarity, and discipline that respects tradition. Revitalization efforts have been carried out through youth involvement, systematic documentation, scheduling Etu in the village's annual cultural calendar (as an educational demonstration), and collaboration with tourism awareness groups (Pokdarwis). This revitalization has resulted in increased youth participation, the emergence of local economic opportunities, and the strengthening of cultural identity. In conclusion, if managed in a participatory and sustainable manner, Etu has great potential to become a unique and authentic community-based tourist attraction, providing significant social and economic benefits, and strengthening local cultural identity.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out with the aim of increasing the knowledge and active involvement of Karang Taruna members in the administration of government in Maukeli Village, Mauponggo District, Nagekeo Regency. One of the problems faced is the low participation of youth in village government affairs, which is caused by a low understanding of the functions and important roles of Karang Taruna. For this reason, this service was carried out through various methods such as socialization, group discussions, and short training involving village officials, community leaders, and Karang Taruna members. The material presented included the role of Karang Taruna in village development, involvement in planning and implementing village programs, and strengthening the capacity of youth organizations. The results of this activity showed an increase in knowledge and enthusiasm of youth in supporting village programs, as well as a joint commitment to improve cooperation between Karang Taruna and the village government in a sustainable manner. It is hoped that through this socialization, Karang Taruna can function effectively as a strategic partner for the village government in creating participatory, inclusive, and sustainable development.
