Abstract

Mathematics is one of the subjects that has been taught from the elementary level. However, in reality in the Papua Highlands area thats mathematics is still a problem for both students and teachers. Teachers who are used to teaching using the lecture method make students lazy to take math lessons which results in low math learning outcomes. Mathematics which has an abstract nature requires teachers to be able to concretize it so that it is easily understood by students, considering that students at the basic level are still classified as concrete thinkers. The purpose of implementing this PKM is to provide training for Inpres Tiom Elementary School teachers in creating a pleasant atmosphere for learning mathematics without having to burden students' brains, introduce methods that can be used to teach basic arithmetic, improve student learning outcomes, especially in fostering cooperation between Inpres Tiom Elementary School teacher partners with STKIP Abdi Wacana Wamena. Overcoming the problems above, a solution is provided so that the mathematics lessons being taught become fun lessons for elementary school children, partners are given learning training with the use of visual aids and the application of the jarimatics method. Based on the results of the evaluation of the training activities through the questionnaire provided, it was found that all the teachers who participated in the training strongly agreed with the training activities.

Abstract

This curriculum is one of the learning programs to improve the quality of learning that has been inaugurated by the Minister of Education and Culture which has been established in the world of education. The purpose of this study is (1) to explain the conditions of students if the independent curriculum is implemented in each school (2) To find out whether the principal and teachers are ready to implement the independent curriculum in schools or not (3) To find out the factors that become obstacles. in the implementation of this independent curriculum. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach by taking objects from three schools, namely Ibele State Middle School, Wamena 4 State Middle School, and Isakusa State Middle School. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews and documentation. The respondents in this study were the principals. The results of the study showed that the new independent curriculum was implemented this year (2024), odd semester in class VII. Where the readiness of the teachers is ready and some are not ready because there are some teachers who did not attend the training. So that the principal for the next few months held a socialization about the independent curriculum to teachers who did not attend the training, even from SMP Negeri 4 Wamena the principal provided Kombel (Learning Community). Likewise in the teaching and learning process that has been known about the condition of students where in their own personalities some do not know how to read and write, so the efforts made by the teacher are to separate students who are still lacking in reading and writing, to be guided and trained and taught how to read and write while the problem is the infrastructure, and one of them is electricity that has not entered the SMP Negeri Ibele area, so from several things this is the obstacle.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the numeracy skills of eighth-grade junior high school students in solving AKM problems with algebra content, identify the factors that influence them, and develop effective learning strategies to improve them. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The subjects of the study were eighth-grade students of Anugerah Gloria Terpadu Wamena Middle School in the 2024/2025 academic year. The main instrument in this study was the researcher herself, while the supporting instruments were test sheets and interview guidelines. This study used data collection techniques in the form of test techniques and interview techniques. The data analysis used three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the numeracy of eighth-grade students of Anugerah Gloria Terpadu Middle School is still categorized as low, due to the lack of explanation and reasoning of mathematical sentences in the problems. Therefore, improvements and development of mathematics learning are provided, such as the need to compile integrated learning materials between mathematical topics/concepts, everyday life, and other sciences to provide a relevant context for students. Because it coincides with curriculum adjustments to the development of the era. The curriculum in Indonesia will continue to change.

Abstract

The Academic Competency Test (TKA), established under Permendikdasmen Number 9 of 2025, positions academic achievement as one of the key indicators for student admission to the next level of education. The implementation of TKA in mathematics presents considerable challenges due to the reasoning-based and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) demands of its questions, causing many students to experience difficulties and anxiety. This community service activity aimed to enhance the academic readiness of sixth-grade students in facing the Mathematics TKA through a coaching-based learning assistance program. The activity was conducted over eight days (March 16–24, 2026) at the Shallom Sunday School Building in Wamena, involving 9 participants aged 11–12 years from several primary schools in the Wamena area. The method encompassed three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Academic readiness was measured through 40 evaluation items aligned with the TKA framework within a 120-minute session, supported by observational assessment throughout the program. Results demonstrated improved conceptual understanding in number operations, measurement, and two- and three-dimensional geometry. Participants also grew more familiar with reasoning-based question types and exhibited increased motivation and confidence. The program received full support from the church and parents as implementation partners, confirming that coaching-based TKA preparation effectively enhances academic readiness while strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and the community.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the traditional counting practices of the Lani people in Lanny Jaya Regency and to identify the mathematical concepts embedded within those practices. The study employed a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving traditional leaders, community leaders, farmers, livestock breeders, and community members knowledgeable about traditional counting practices. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that the Lani people still utilize traditional counting practices in various daily activities, including livestock counting, crop distribution, customary payments, stone-burning ceremonies, and other social activities. The traditional number system consists of Ambir (one), Mbere (two), Kenagan (three), Mbereo (four), Abenok Linggi’togon (five), and subsequent numbers formed through combinations and additions of basic numbers. These counting practices reflect mathematical concepts such as numbers, one-to-one correspondence, addition, subtraction, grouping, comparison, and estimation. From an ethnomathematical perspective, these traditional counting practices represent mathematical activities embedded in cultural traditions and transmitted across generations.
