Abstract

This paper is aimed at analyzing the sleeping beauty fairy tale using Vladimir Propp’sfunctions of dramatis personae. The analysis utilizes thirty one functions, however, not all that functions occur in a tale. These functions create a main framework in the story (Propp, 1968:25—65). The analysis reveals similarity between The Sleeping Beauty with any other folktale which came from Rusia. There are thirty one functions of dramatis personae which can be distributed into seven spheres of actions. From these seven spheres of actions, there are seven characters that usually appear in the fairy tales. But in The Sleeping Beauty there are only five characters since there is no helper and false hero in this story.

Abstract

This study is attempted to analyze an existentialism of Chekhov’s main characters Smirnov in “The Bear”, Lomov in “The Proposal” and Ivan in “A Tragedian in Spite of Himself”. The data are taken from the dialogues selected in the plays mentioned. There are two objectives of the study that are: to find how the main characters show their existence; and to reveal why the main characters doing so in the plays. Descriptive qualitative is applied as research method, while existentialism as the main theory and positivism and rationalism as the supporting theory. This Study found out how the main characters oppose positivism and rationalism by being subjective. Each character has their own way in showing their existence. As the result, every character has their own purposes to be existence. The purposes of the main characters are their own eternal happiness. In “The Bear” Smirnov is being stubborn because he wants to show his power as a landowner, in “The Proposal” Lomov is flaunting his wealth in order to propose Natalya, and Ivan is nagging to get sympathy from his friend.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to reveal whether Moana’s Screenplay by Jared Bush can be considered as an eco-feminism reading or not. To prove this hypothesis, the researcher analyzes Moana’s Screenplay through find out the characteristics of the main character that reflect ecological feminism and reveals the relationship between man, woman, and nature in Moana’s screenplay using eco-feminism perspective. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative methods in analyzing the data. The researcher found that eco-feminism issues were clearly shown in this screenplay. First, the main character in Moana’s Screenplay was not described as a weak woman but she showed the characteristics of leadership, ambitious, and courageous where these characters usually owned by man. She was described as a woman who loved their people and the environment which is a reflection of ecological feminism. Second, the relationship between man and woman was illustrated that male characters dominated woman both verbally and mentally. Third, regarding the relationship between man and nature, it was found that nature was dominated because man saw nature as a resource to meet human needs. Finally, related to the relationship between woman and nature, it was revealed that woman was closer to nature than man so they can live in harmony.

Abstract

Abstrak: Robert Frost memenangkan empat Hadiah Pulitzer dengan puisi ini, Stopping by Woods on The Snowy Evening bukanlah puisi biasa yang ditulis untuk sebuah kesempatan biasa. Puisi ini penuh makna yang harus diungkapkan dan dianalisis.Banyak kritikus memiliki persepsi yang berbeda sesuai dengan arti sebenarnya dari karya agung ini.Penulis mencoba menganalisis puisi ini dari analisis tingkat grammatical, analisis bahasa figuratif yang mengandung tingkat fonologis dan gambaran analisis wicara.Analisis ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan setiap baris puisi ini menjadi salah satu unsur diskusi sastra.Beberapa elemen puisi dan pola grammatical yang dianalisis, membentuk perspektif di otak pembaca tentang bagaimana kompleks puisi ini diciptakan.Kata Kunci: Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on The Snowy Evening, grammatical level, Phonological levelAbstract: Robert Frost won four Pulitzer Prizes by this poem, Stopping by Woods on The Snowy Evening is not an ordinary poem which is written for an ordinary occasion. This poem is full of meanings which should to be revealed and analyzed. Many critics have different perception according the truly meaning of this great masterpiece. The writer tries to analyze this poem from analyzing tools of grammatical level, figurative language analysis containing phonological level and figure of speech analysis. These analyzing tools are purposed to reveal each line of this poem become one element of literary discussions. Several poetry elements and grammatical patterns which are analyzed, establish a perspective on the reader’s brain of how complex this poem was created.Key Words: Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on The Snowy Evening, grammatical level, Phonological level
