Abstract

Homegardens have long been a vital traditional agroforestry system supporting the livelihoods of Indonesian communities, particularly in terms of food security. This study aims to deepen the understanding of the role of homegardens in national food security by focusing on a case study of the Local User Value Index (LUVI) for food crops in homegardens in Pujon, Malang Regency, East Java. The research methodology involved collecting local knowledge from the community and applying the Pebble Distribution Method (PDM) to calculate the significance value of plants across various utility categories (LUVI). The findings indicate that homegardens play a significant role in meeting local food needs, particularly through the production of food crops, vegetables, fruits, herbs, and natural dyes. Crops such as maize and cassava serve as important staple food alternatives in areas with limited agricultural land. The preference for plant usage is influenced by geographical factors, community preferences, and the utility of the plants. This study provides deeper insights into the potential of homegardens and their role in supporting food security, with the aim of contributing to the advancement of knowledge and agricultural policy development in the future.

Abstract

Biology education in high school has an important role in shaping students' science literacy and critical thinking skills. However, ecological material, particularly the topic of Ecosystem Components and their Interactions, is often considered difficult because it is abstract and not easy to observe directly. This research aims to improve student learning outcomes through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, which emphasizes real problem-solving, collaborative discussion, and active involvement in the learning process. The research uses the design of Classroom Action Research (PTK) which was carried out in two cycles in class X of St. Rosa de Lima Catholic High School Tondano involving 10 students in the odd semester of the 2025/2026 school year. Data was collected through observation of teacher and student activities, learning outcome tests in the form of pretests and posttests, and learning documentation. The analysis was carried out descriptively, qualitatively, and quantitatively by calculating the average score, percentage of completion, and student involvement. The results of the study showed a significant increase. The percentage of teacher activity increased from 58.3% in the first cycle to 87.5% in the second cycle, while student activity increased from 45.83% to 83.33%. The average score of students also increased from 70% in cycle I to 90% in cycle II, with classical completeness reaching 90%. These findings confirm the effectiveness of PBL as a contextual Biology learning strategy, able to bridge ecological concepts with real life, and increase students' curiosity, cooperation, and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study's purpose is to analyze student problem-solving based on field study. The subjects are chemistry education study program 3rd year or semester 5 class B consisting of 9 students, Manado State University. The subjects that be held are Population and Environmental Education Subjects. This study is descriptive qualitative research. This research consists of two steps, planning and implementation. The study used a purposive sampling. The data were obtained from problem-solving questions tests, papers, presentations, and discussions with question-answers. The results showed that the problem-solving analysis test got 74% and it can conclude that students' problem-solving ability is high. The research results showed that we could analysis the problem-solving ability of students using field studies methods in lectures.
