Abstract

Gouty Arthritis is a disease caused by the accumulation of monosodium urate in the joints due to hyperuricemia, which causes painful inflammation. Syzgium polyanthum (Wight) Walp is a plant that grows in Indonesia and has been used as a traditional medicine.  It is used to treat various diseases, especially excessive production of uric acid. It is thought to contain phloretin compounds which can reduce the amount of uric acid. The purpose of this study was observed the biological activity of the natural products phloretin as an antihyperuricemia. Bioinformatic applications used in this study include the Pubchem compound database, protein target data base (Pharmmapper and Swiss Target Prediction), molecular docking software PyRx 0.8, software for 3D visualization and analysis of docking ligands and binding sites PyMOL and BIOVIA Disvovery Studo Client 2016.  The results of docking and binding site analysis showed that phloretin was able to interact with cyclin dependent kinase 2 (target protein) with a binding affinity of -6 kcal/mol more negatively than allopurinol with a binding affinity of -5.7, at different binding sites. Phloretin is a potential compound that can be used in the treatment of gouthy arthritis as an anti-inflammatory by inhibiting CDK2 activity.

Abstract

Nature has enormous potential to aid in the study of biology. This potential can be effectively harnessed when presented in teaching materials, such as modules. This research aimed to produce valid learning modules based on the local potential found in Enrekang Regency, which can facilitate contextual and meaningful biology learning. The research method employed was Research and Development (R&D), utilizing the ADDIE development model. Data was collected using an expert validation sheet to assess the module's validity in terms of content, language, presentation, and appearance. The Plantae module, as a product of this development, is based on the local potential and exhibits characteristics such as being self-instructional, self-contained, stand-alone, adaptable, user-friendly, and including pictures of local plants from Enrekang Regency. Based on data analysis, the developed module fulfills the validity criteria in all aspects of the assessment, with an average validity score of 4.1. Consequently, the research concludes that the developed module is valid and can effectively support biology learning by incorporating the local potential of Enrekang Regency.

Abstract

Ajmalicine is a natural secondary metabolite compound found in the Catharanthus roseus plant, which has potential as an antihypertensive agent. Docking simulations were used to explore the molecular interactions between Ajmalicine and its identified target protein, the Alpha-2A adrenergic receptor, using three servers: PharmMapper, SwissTargetPrediction, and SuperPred. The analysis was supported by software such as PyMOL and LigPlus, Discovery Studio 2016 Client, and PyRx 0.8. The results showed that Ajmalicine interacts with the target protein, and this interaction was compared with a control compound, Clonidine, a chemical already used as an antihypertensive drug. The findings revealed that Ajmalicine binds to the same site on the target protein as Clonidine.

Abstract

Tilapia is a freshwater animal that is always in contact with the aquatic environment so that it is easily infected by bacteria through water. This study aims to identify the types of bacteria that cause diseases that attack Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) kept in Dimembe District, North Minahasa Regency. This study uses a descriptive exploratory research method. The results of the study found sixteen isolates and identified them as bacteria that cause Tilapia disease in North Minahasa Regency, including Aeromonas sp. (4 isolates), Plesiomonas sp. (5 isolates), and Enterobacter sp. (1 isolate). based on morphological characteristics (colonies and bacterial cells) and biochemical (catalase, oxidase and motility tests). It was found that periodic and continuous fish disease surveillance is needed to monitor the spread of fish diseases, especially Tilapia disease in North Minahasa

Abstract

Algae are lower plants that do not have differentiated structures such as roots, stems, and leaves; although they may appear to have differences, they are actually just thallus forms. Macroalgae have macroscopic body shape and size consisting of fronds without distinct roots, stems, and leaves. Macroalgal diversity is not only reflected in their ecological and economic significance but also in their high species richness and wide geographical distribution within aquatic ecosystems. However, research on the species diversity of macroalgae in Budo Tourism Village Beach, North Minahasa remains limited. This study aims to identify the macroalgal species in the Budo Tourism Village, Wori, North Minahasa area. The research employed the line transect and quadrat-based sampling method, which was implemented at two distinct station locations: Station I (rocky reef substrate) and Station II (sandy-muddy substrate). Macroalgae identification was facilitated by utilizing the comprehensive identification textbooks. The research reveals the presence of four macroalgal species, comprising three brown algae (Phaeophyceae), namely Padina boergesenii, Sargassum llinearifolium, Turbinaria ornata and one red algae (Rhodophyceae), Gracilaria corticata. Sargassum linearifolium, Padina boergesenii, and Gracilaria corticata was found in rocky reef substrate. Turbinaria ornate and Padina boergesenii was found in sandy-muddy substrate.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim in conducting this research is to analyze the effectiveness and practicality of using constructivist LKPD assisted by Flipcreator, which has previously been developed and found the valid criteria. The research method referred to the RD development model, namely ADDIE: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects consisted of 24 students and 1 biology subject teacher. The instruments used are student evaluation sheets to see the effectiveness of data, students' and teacher' response questionnaire sheets, and learning implementation observation sheets to see practicality data. From the data analysis, the following results were obtained: (1) The effectiveness test showed that the constructivist LKPD assisted by Flipcreator was effectively used in the learning process, with 91.67% of students' learning completeness being fulfilled; (2) in the practicality test, a positive response was obtained from teachers and students of 100%, which was in the very strong category, as well as the results of observations of learning implementation, which showed that all aspects observed in the learning process were fully implemented with a total mean of 1.52. These results showed that the constructivist LKPD assisted by Flipcreator is effective and practical to use in the classroom learning process. Keywords:  student’s worksheet, constructivism, flipcreator

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain the practicality and effectiveness of the local potential-based Biology module that has been previously developed by researchers through research and development (RD).  This study uses a one-shot case study design as a pre-experiment. Product trials were conducted in one class selected by purposive sampling with 28 participants.  The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire sheet for the responses of educators and students to measure the practicality of the module. learning outcomes test instrument was also used to measure the module's effectiveness. The analysis's findings educator's response obtained a percentage value of 100% and 92% for the response of students. At the same time, students' learning outcomes reached an average of 89.8.  These findings provide a conclusion that the biology module based on local potential is practical to use and can effectively improve student learning outcomes.
