Abstract

AbstractSince its appearance at the end of 2019 until now, COVID-19 has spread to all over the worldincluding Indonesia, which is still battling the virus infection with numbers that have notdecreased. In its journey, COVID-19 has manifested itself in various body systems, includingthe nerves. Many case reports and studies mentioned neurological clinical symptoms inCOVID-19 patients, ranging from mild ones such as headaches, anosmia, to severe symptomssuch as stroke, meningitis, to Guillain Barre Syndrome. This article discusses how SARS-CoV-2 can reach the nervous system, and what neurological manifestations can occur, sourced fromvarious retrospective studies, reviews, and case reports. Keywords: COVID-19, nervus system, neurology clinical symptoms

Abstract

Patients with diabetes may develop diabetic neuropathy, which damages peripheral nerves and impairs distal sensation. This study's aim was to determine the relationship between duration and fasting blood glucose with diabetic neuropathy. Patients with diabetes mellitus at Siti Khodijah Hospital in Sidoarjo, East Java, participated in this cross-sectional study. Fifty-one individuals were gathered using purposive sampling. The tools utilized were the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) and a clinical chemistry laboratory examination—logistic regression for multivariate analysis and the contingency coefficient test for bivariate data analysis. Most type-2 DM patients who experienced diabetic neuropathy had a duration of DM >5 years (35.3%) and had fasting blood sugar levels ≥126 mg/dl (41.2%). Bivariate analysis of duration obtained a value (p = 0.003), and fasting blood sugar levels obtained a value (p = 0.000). Multivariate data analysis using logistic regression duration obtained value (Exp (B) = 22.386), and fasting blood sugar levels obtained value (Exp (B) = 35.305). There was a significant relationship between duration and fasting blood glucose levels on the incidence of diabetic neuropathy. The factor that had a higher risk of diabetic neuropathy was fasting blood sugar levels than the duration of DM.

Abstract

Diabetic neuropathy has been recognized as a prevalent complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus, correlated with diminished balance function and an elevated likelihood of falls, which may be associated with substantial morbidity and reduced quality of life. The present study was undertaken to investigate the association between diabetic neuropathy and fall risk in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Siti Khodijah Hospital, Sepanjang, using a cross-sectional design among 56 patients selected through purposive sampling. Diabetic neuropathy status was ascertained from medical record documentation reflecting clinical diagnoses established by internal medicine and neurology specialists, whereas fall risk was evaluated by administering the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test. Of participants with diabetic neuropathy, 26 of 35 patients (74.3%) were identified as higher fall risk, compared to 8 of 21 patients (38.1%) without diabetic neuropathy. Chi-square analysis yielded a statistically significant association between diabetic neuropathy and TUG-based fall risk classification (p = 0.007, r = 0.338), with an odds ratio of 4.694 (95% CI: 1.469–15.005). These results suggest that early detection of diabetic neuropathy and prompt initiation of preventive interventions may be warranted to reduce fall-related outcomes in this population.

Abstract

Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is microvascular complications in people with type 2 diabetes that can significantly affect patients’ quality of life. Higher levels of blood pressure are known to be associated with an increased occurrence of diabetic neuropathy in type 2 diabetes patients. This study aimed to determine the risk factors for blood pressure levels with the incidence of diabetic neuropathy. This approach used purposive sampling with a cross-sectional methodology. SPSS version 26 with the chi square test was used to analyze the data. This study involved 68 patient. Patient with diabetic neuropathy mostly female (23.8%), aged of 51-60 years (16.2%), have had diabetes for > 5 years (22.1%), consumed insulin or anti-diabetic medications orally (35.5%), have a history of hypertension (20.6%), and do not take antihypertensive drugs (20.6%). ccording to the findings of the ci-squre analysis, there was a significant correlation between the incidence of diabetic neuropathy and the level of blood pressure (p < 0.04). Patients who suffer from neuropathy diabetic had the most hypertension grade 1. Meanwhile, patients who do not had diabetic neuropathy mostly have optimal, normal and normal-high blood pressure. In conclusion, there is a correlation between the incidence of blood pressure levels and diabetic neuropathy.

Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a disorder that attacks the cartilage of the joints so that they are thinned and sometimes accompanied with mild inflammation (Sylvia A.Price, 2006). In 2019 the incident of osteoarthritis cases at the Siti Khodijah Muhammadiyah Sepanjang Hospital was 6571 patients. Therefore, osteoarthritis is the 3rd common disease after LBP and COPD. Obesity in one of the causes that can increased risk of osteoarthritis. especially those can affect the body’s weight support joints such as the knee. Body mass index calculations are used to classify overweight in adults. To determine is there a corelation between body mass index and severity degree of knee osteoarthritis based on plain radiographs according to the Kellgren-Lawrence grading scale in patients at Siti Khodijah Muhammadiyah Sepanjang Hospital. This study used a cross-sectional design with consecutive sampling technique on 49 knee osteoarthritis patients at Siti Khodijah Muhammadiyah Sepanjang Hospital. The data that used in this study is patient’s medical record. From the severity of osteoarthritis in 49 respondents, the results were grade I as much as 13 (26,5%), grade II as much as 11 (22, 4%), grade III as much as 14 (28, 6%), and grade IV as much as 11(22, 4%) respondents. Whereas on the body mass index, the results were thin (≤17,0-18,4) as much as 2 (4,1%), normal (18,5-25,0) as much as 24 (49%), obesity (25,1-27,0) as much as 12 (24,5%), and severe obesity (>27,0) as much as 11 (22,4%) respondents. The result of statistical test using the Spearman test obtained a significance value (p): 0.578 (p>0.05). There is no significant relationship between bodymass index and the severity degree of knee osteoarthritis based on plain radiographsaccording to the Kellgren-Lawrence grading scale at the Siti Khodijah MuhammadiyahSepanjang Hospital. Keywords : Knee osteoarthritis, severity degree of knee osteoarthritis, body mass index.
