Abstract

Tanjung (Mimusops elengi Linn.) is a good type of plant to be used in various urban forest formation programs due to its many uses. The provision of natural growth regulators (ZPT) from cattle urine, which contains auxin, plays an important role in the growth and development process of a plant and accelerates the initial process of germination and plant growth. The method used in this study (RAL), consisting of two factors: concentration and soaking time. The concentration factor consisted of treatment A0 = control (aquades), A1 = 30% (300ml cattle urine + 700ml aquades), A2 = 60% (600ml cattle urine + 400ml aquades), A3 = 85% (850ml cattle urine + 150ml aquades). The soaking time factor consisted of treatment P0 = control, P1 = 6 hours, P2 = 12 hours, and P3 = 18 hours, with each treatment repeated 3 times, resulting in 48. Each experimental unit required 100 tanjung seeds, so the total of all treatments with repetitions required 4,800. The results showed that the concentration (A) and soaking time (P) of cattle urine had a very significant effect on the germination percentage, germination speed index, and germination value percentage. The treatment of concentration A2 (60% concentration) and the single treatment of soaking time P2 (12 hours soaking) were the best treatments in breaking the dormancy of tanjung seeds. The interaction between concentration and soaking time had a very significant effect on all parameters, namely germination percentage, germination speed index, and germination value of tanjung seeds (Mimosops elengi Linn.).

Abstract

Sandalwood, scientifically known as Santalum album L., is a endemic plant from East Nusa Tenggara with significant economic values. This study aimed to determine the effect of applying liquid organic fertilizer from Golden Apple Snail (Pomacea canaliculata L.) on the growth of sandalwood seedlings. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a single factor, consisting of four treatments: B0 (control), B1 (POC 10ml/ltr), B2 (POC 20ml/ltr), and B3 (POC 30ml/ltr), each with three replications. Further testing was conducted using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) from Golden Apple Snail had a significant effect on the parameters of plant height, seedling diameter, number of leaves, fresh weight, and dry weight. These parameters showed the highest significant differences, respectively: 15.200 cm, 5.767 mm, 12.667 leaves, 1.233 g, and 0.933 g in the B3 treatment or the application of POC Golden Apple Snail at 30ml/ltr. Therefore, the golden apple snail liquid organic fertilizer can be used on plants at a concentration of 30 ml/liter.

Abstract

Merbau (Intsia bijuga (Colebr.) O. Kuntze) is a plant species widely utilized due to its high economic value and is well-known for export purposes. This study aims to determine the effect of planting media combinations on the germination of merbau seeds. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a single factor, consisting of five treatments: M0 (control), M1 (850 grams of soil + 150 grams of rice husk biochar), M2 (850 grams of soil + 150 grams of chicken manure), M3 (850 grams of soil + 50 grams of rice husk biochar + 100 grams of chicken manure), and M4 (850 grams of soil + 100 grams of rice husk biochar + 50 grams of chicken manure), each with three replications. Further testing was conducted using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the combination of planting media significantly affected the parameters of Germination Power, Germination Speed Index, and Germination Value. These three parameters showed the highest significant differences, respectively: 96.667%, 1.168, and 0.206, in the M3 treatment or the combination of planting media (850 grams of soil + 50 grams of rice husk biochar + 100 grams of chicken manure).

Abstract

Sandalwood (Santalum album Linn.) is a wood-producing forest plant in East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) that has great economic value and is an endemic species. Sandalwood is one type of plant that has high economic value. Propagation of sandalwood can be done in vegetative and generative ways. Sandalwood propagation until now still relies heavily on generative propagation by utilizing sandalwood seeds as propagation material. One of the alternatives to increase soil fertility is through the use of organic fertilizers, namely Biochar chicken manure and cow manure can overcome Ultisol soil problems as an alternative The application of biochar into the soil can improve the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil, namely it can increase porosity, water holding capacity, soil aggregation, increase pH, cation exchange capacity, soil organic carbon, retention and availability of nutrients, and improve the microbial, meso and macro life of soil fauna. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of biochar on the germination of Sandalwood seeds (Santalum album Linn.). The method used in this study was CompletelyRandomzed Design (CRD), with 4 treatments and each treatment was repeated 5 times so that 20 experimental units were obtained. The experimental unit in the form of a mixture of germination media is put into the germination tub. Each sprout tub is planted with 50 seeds, so that a total of 1000 Sandalwood seeds are needed for all treatments and replicates. The results of the study showed that the M2 treatment (3 kg of soil + 2 kg of chicken manure biochar) had a very real effect and was also the best treatment that affected germination power, germination speed index, and germination value.

Abstract

Various environmental issues faced by the world in general and Indonesia in particular are highly diverse, one of which is forest and land fires (karhutla). A fire incident refers to a condition where fire burns a specific area or region, while a forest is an extensive land area dominated by trees. Thus, in general, forest fires refer to the burning of a vast area filled with trees and other vegetation. Forest and land fires occur regularly every year in the Matalawa National Park area. This study aims to determine whether there are differences in composition, structure, and vegetation diversity between burned and unburned areas in the Kambata Wundut Forest Block, Kambata Wundut Village. This research employs a spatial analysis approach using the Google Earth Engine platform and vegetation analysisThe results show that forest and land fires can influence the composition of stand-forming vegetation. There are differences in composition and structure between burned and unburned areas, where some vegetation types are found only in one area, while most dominant vegetation species are present in both. The vegetation diversity index at all growth phases is generally in the high category, while the species richness index tends to be low. Additionally, the species evenness index indicates high values across all growth phases. The comparison of vegetation species similarity levels between the two areas shows a very high percentage, indicating that the vegetation growing in both burned and unburned areas is relatively similar. However, vegetation diversity in the unburned area is higher than in the burned area.

Abstract

Merbau (Intsia bijuga (Colebr) O. Kuntze) is a tree species that naturally grows in various soil types, including moist, dry, and rocky soils, and is endemic to Indonesia. One of the main challenges in the generative propagation of Merbau is slow germination caused by its hard seed coat, due to the seed’s dormancy traits. Therefore, a pre-treatment is needed to break the dormancy, such as applying plant growth regulators (PGRs) through seed soaking. This study aimed to determine the effect of cow urine concentration and soaking duration on breaking seed dormancy in Merbau. A factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with two factors: concentration (control/distilled water, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% cow urine) and soaking duration (24, 36, and 48 hours). The results showed that the single treatment of 75% concentration (A3) and 48-hour soaking duration (D3) were the most effective in breaking seed dormancy. However, D3 was not significantly different from D2 (36 hours) in terms of germination rate and germination value. The interaction between concentration and soaking duration had no significant effect on germination speed index, germination rate, or germination value of Merbau seeds.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of physical scarification methods-specifically sun drying and burning treatments-on candlenut seed germination. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors, duration of sun drying and duration of burning, was implemented. The sun drying treatments included: A0 = control (no drying), A1 = 24 hours, A2 = 20 hours, and A3 = 16 hours. The burning treatments comprised: B0 = control (no burning), B1 = 5 minutes, and B2 = 10 minutes. Each treatment was replicated three times for a total of 36 experimental units, with 10 seeds per unit (360 seeds total). Data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the individual treatments A2 (20 hours of sun drying) and B1 (5 minutes of burning) significantly enhanced germination percentage, germination rate, number of leaves, and seedling height. An interaction effect between sun drying and burning was statistically significant for germination rate and seedling height but not for germination percentage or number of leaves.

Abstract

The utilization of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) plays an important role in increasing the income of forest-dependent communities. This study aims to determine the contribution of NTFPs to the income of community forest (HKm) farmers in Hikong Village, Talibura Sub-district, Sikka Regency. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method with purposive sampling involving 72 respondents from the HKm Tuar Tana group. Data were collected through structured interviews, observation, and documentation, and then analyzed by calculating the contribution of NTFPs to total household income, presented in the form of tables, percentages, and descriptive explanations. The results show that the community utilizes various types of NTFPs such as candlenut, cashew, areca nut, cocoa, coffee, clove, and others. The total income from NTFPs reached IDR 1,060,462,000/year with an average of IDR 14,728,639/person/year, while the average total income from all sources was IDR 16,416,764/person/year. Thus, the contribution of NTFPs to household income amounted to 89.72%, indicating that NTFPs are the main source of livelihood for HKm farmers in this area.

Abstract

Agroforestry is a land management system that integrates forestry, agriculture, and/or livestock components simultaneously or sequentially in one land unit. This system offers a sustainable solution for forest land utilization. This study aims to analyze agroforestry-based Community Forest (HKm) management by the people of Goloworok Village, Ruteng District, Manggarai Regency. Agroforestry is a strategic solution in the productive and sustainable management of protected forest land without changing the function of the region. The methods used include quantitative and qualitative descriptive approaches with sampling techniques using the Slovin formula which produced 62 respondents from 164 members of the Forest Farmers Group (KTH). Data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study showed that there were two planting patterns applied, namely alternating rows and random mixtures. Most farmers (39 respondents) apply the alternative rows pattern because it is considered more regular and makes it easier to maintain until harvest. The agroforestry systems used include simple agroforestry systems (a combination of trees and one type of seasonal crop) and complex (a combination of various types of trees, agricultural crops, and/or livestock resembling natural forests), and are classified into agrosilvopastures based on a combination of forestry, agriculture, and livestock elements.

Abstract

The Yellow-crested Cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea), a critically endangered subspecies of the Yellow-crested Cockatoo, faces population pressure due to illegal hunting and habitat destruction. This study aimed to analyze the population and characteristics of Yellow-crested Cockatoo nest trees in the Tuti Adagae Natural Reserve (TWA), a case study area of the canary forest in Kamot Village, North East Alor District, Alor Regency. The research method involved field surveys, direct observation, and measurements of the characteristics of the nest trees used by the cockatoos. The population survey was conducted by recording the number of individuals observed along the observation route, while nest trees were identified and their characteristics, including tree species, diameter, and height of the nest The study concluded that although the Tuti Adagae National Park (TWA) provides habitat for the Yellow-crested Cockatoo, the species' population remains vulnerable. Habitat destruction and microclimate factors pose serious challenges. Conservation recommendations include protecting existing nesting trees, restoring habitat through appropriate tree planting, and conducting regular population monitoring to support the survival of this endangered species. hole, were measured.
