Abstract

The pressure faced by college students in the digital era has become increasingly complex. Not only are they expected to be independent and succeed academically and in their careers, but they also often experience social pressure due to peers’ success shared on social media. This can trigger feelings of inferiority, anxiety, and even depression. One of the main factors contributing to depression in early adulthood is the inability to cope with life transitions, commonly referred to as a quarter-life crisis. In addition, family functioning also plays a crucial role in supporting students' mental health. This study aims to examine the simultaneous influence of family functioning and quarter-life crisis on the level of depression among university students. The research employs a quantitative approach with a causal design. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, involving 231 student respondents from various regions in Indonesia. The measurement tools include the Family Functioning Scale adapted from the Family Assessment Device (FAD) by Epstein, Baldwin, and Bishop (1983), consisting of 52 valid items with a Cronbach’s Alpha reliability of 0.950; the Quarter-Life Crisis Scale, based on the theory of Alexandra Robbins and Abby Wilner (2001), consisting of 26 items with a reliability of 0.856; and the Depression Scale using the standardized Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) by Beck (1991).The results show that, simultaneously, family functioning and quarter-life crisis have a significant effect on students' depression levels, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Partially, family functioning has a negative effect on depression (p = 0.000 < 0.05), meaning that the better the family functioning, the lower the level of student depression. However, partially, the quarter-life crisis does not have a significant effect on depression, with a significance value of 0.405 (p > 0.05).

Abstract

High unemployment rates cause increased competition among job seekers. Job competition and uncertainty about getting a job after graduating from college can cause anxiety for new graduates. The anxiety that arises can be influenced by their self-confidence. This research aims to determine the effect of self-confidence on anxiety in facing job competition among fresh graduates in Banten. This research design is quantitative with a causal type and uses a purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 270 university and college graduates in Banten. The self-confidence measuring tool has a value of (α)=0.890 with 22 valid items, and the anxiety measuring tool has a value of (α)=0.865 with 23 valid items. This research used a simple linear regression analysis technique, and obtained results of sig. 0.000 and Y=87.205-0.397. This means that the hypothesis in this research is accepted. Self-confidence contributes 19.2% to anxiety when facing career competition, and the rest is influenced by other factors not examined in this research. New graduates with high anxiety were found in respondents who had applied for work more than 6 times (65%), had never attended training (76.6%), and had never had an internship (78.4%).

Abstract

The variables tested in this study are organizational support as exogenous variables, work engagement and work performance as endogenous variables. The research respondents were autism therapists at institutions for children with special needs in Karawang, totaling 203 therapists. Data analysis used Structural Equation Model (SEM) using partial least squares (PLS). Based on the results of the hypothetical model test, organizational support influences work performance mediated by work attachment. This means that the research theoretical model can be accepted as a model that fits the data in the field. This also shows that the stronger the employee gets support from the organizational and the employee understands the employee's work engagement will increase.
