Abstract

ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this study was to investigate conjunctive adverbs in undergraduate students’ articles. This study employed descriptive quantitative design which focused on the corpus analysis. The samples of the study were 73 articles selected from English department students’ articles at State University of Malang in the graduation academic year 2012/2013. After collecting all the articles, the researcher used the data that were classified into four types and the function was described using theory of conjunctive adverbs proposed by Halliday and Hasan; they are additive, adversative, causal and temporal. The instruments used to analyze the data were Ant.conc 3.41w sofware and interview guide. The results showed that there were 20 conjunctive adverbs in articles; causal categories (37%) were the mostly used by students writing, and then followed by adversative categories (26%), temporal categories (22%) and the last were additive categories (15%). The most frequent conjunctive adverbs was Because in causal categories which got 603 times (55.37%). Furthermore, the reason of students to choose conjunctive adverb Because as the most connectors used in the articles was because they think these conjunctive adverbs were the simplest and easiest connectors. Keywords: conjunctive adverbs, articles

Abstract

The educational system across the world has been affected due to outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, this new phenomenon forced teachers and students to do teaching and learning process from home. The purpose of writing this study was to investigate the students' perceptions of online learning has been implemented and the factors that influenced these perceptions. Therefore, this survey asked 60 students in Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Migas Balikpapan to convey their perception on the effect of online during Covid-19. The finding of this study revealed that students positively accepted this new learning system although they’ve found some problems such as difficulty in using application and lack of the internet connection, etc.

Abstract

The increase in plastic waste demands acceleration of waste recycling technology. The purpose of this research is to make a prototype machine to process plastic waste into liquid fuel using the pyrolysis method called the Pluto (plastic to oil) engine. This machine can accommodate plastic waste with a maximum weight of about 3 Kg with a condensate tube that can accommodate a maximum volume of about 3 L of liquid fuel. Experimental results reveal that the heating process for 2 hours produces 250 mL of liquid fuel.

Abstract

The physical properties of plastic waste that is not easily biodegradable is a serious problem in pollution on land and at sea. Therefore, technology to be able to solve these problems needs to be developed. This study aims to understand at what temperature plastic waste can produce fuel oil. The type of waste used in this research is polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is a type of plastic that uses drink bottles. The design of the device to convert plastic into fuel oil in this study consisted of 3 components, namely a valve which functions to regulate the flow of steam from the reactor tube to the condensate tube, the temperature gauge functions to measure the temperature contained in the reactor tube, and the heat blanket functions as a coating, this can reduce excessive heat in the reactor tube. The results revealed that at a temperature of 100ºC to 150ºC with a variation of time (26.3, 27.3, and 28) minutes did not produce oil. At a temperature of 200ºC to 250ºC with time variations (33, 34, and 35) minutes, the condensate tube begins to produce fuel above the water surface.

Abstract

This study investigates the dynamics of Multicultural Education, Cultural Identity, and Political Participation in shaping Minority Rights Awareness in Jakarta. A sample of 200 participants provided demographic insights, and a comprehensive structural equation modeling analysis was conducted. The measurement model established reliability and construct validity, with discriminant validity supporting the differences. The structural model revealed that Multicultural Education significantly influenced Minority Rights Awareness, along with substantial impacts of Cultural Identity and Political Participation. This research contributes to the broader discourse on multiculturalism, cultural identity, and political engagement, guiding targeted interventions to increase minority rights awareness in Jakarta.

Abstract

Discovery learning is an active, student-centered teaching method, where students are encouraged to independently explore and build their own understanding of a topic. This model can improve student learning at various levels of Education including higher education. However, there is no comprehensive meta-analysis of the effect size of research models in higher education. This study aims to conduct a meta-analysis of discovery learning interventions in higher education. Data sources come from 13 national and international journals published in 2022-2024. The source data was obtained through the scientific journal database google scholar, ScienceDirect, Wiley and ERIC. The inclusion criteria in this meta-analysis are that the research must be an experimental method; research comes from SINTA or Scopus indexed journals; Research must be relevant to the discovery learning model in higher education; Journals must be open access and have complete data to calculate the effect size. The results of this study concluded that the Discovery learning model had a significant impact applied to universities with an effect size value of 1,062; p < 0.001) with very high effect size criteria. The findings of this study support the use of discovery learning interventions in higher education.
