Abstract

The Chinese government enacted the China Coastguard Law (CCGL) on 1 February 2022, consisting of 8 chapters and 84 articles. Several provisions within this law, particularly Articles 3, 20, 21, 22, 25, and 46-51 pose significant potential for conflict, especially with Indonesia. These articles regulate China’s maritime jurisdiction, the use of weapons, and actions against foreign vessels, which could heighten tensions in the South China Sea. This study aims to analyze Indonesia’s Integrated and Interactive Defence and Security Strategy (IITCA) in response to the threats posed by the CCGL. The research reveals that Indonesia has strengthened multilateral and bilateral defense diplomacy, protected fishermen’s rights, and enhanced its capacity to maintain regional peace and security, in line with the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific (AOIP). Indonesia has also involved civil society and academia in this integrative strategy. Transparency is maintained through public and international communication, including engagement with organizations such as the United Nations, WTO, ARF, and IMO, as well as cooperation with the fisheries and shipping industries. Control measures are implemented through Confidence-Building Measures (CBM), joint exercises with China and the US, and the reinforcement of maritime security through national and international cooperation. Accountability is ensured by establishing commissions, independent mechanisms, and regular audits and evaluations of defense policies. In addressing the CCGL, Indonesia must strengthen its defense human resources and develop more cohesive maritime policies to manage the escalating conflicts in the South China Sea.

Abstract

The Vietnam War was one of the most controversial and influential military conflicts of the 20th century. This journal article aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the history, causes, and impact of the war that raged in Vietnam from 1955 to 1975. Using primary and secondary sources, the author investigates various aspects of the conflict, including the historical context, the underlying reasons for the outbreak of the war, and far-reaching consequences that continue to shape regional and global affairs to this day. Cold War rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union also played an important role, with the US supporting the South Vietnamese government to prevent the spread of communism in Southeast Asia. Apart from that, the methodology used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. This method is applied by reviewing various literature related to this research topic. Thus, the role of nationalism and regional dynamics contribute to the escalation of hostilities in the region. These events had significant implications for the trajectory of the conflict and shaped public opinion both in the countries involved and internationally.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology in supporting land border security operations along the Indonesia–Malaysia border. The research addresses the increasing complexity of transnational threats that challenge conventional surveillance methods and require adaptive defense strategies. The objective of this study is to analyze the contribution of UAVs to border security operations, identify implementation constraints, and formulate optimization strategies for sustainable utilization. A qualitative descriptive-analytical method was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis involving military operational units, border security task forces, and local stakeholders in the Kalimantan border area. The findings indicate that UAVs significantly enhance early detection, real-time aerial surveillance, and tactical decision-making. However, their effectiveness remains constrained by limited operator capability, inadequate infrastructure, and restricted logistical and budgetary support. The study concludes that integrating UAV systems into command and control structures, improving operator competence, and strengthening intersectoral cooperation are essential to establishing a modern and adaptive border security system.
