Abstract

Indonesia is one of the tropical countries that has a variety of plants including vegetables and fruits. One that has the largest production is carrots (Daucus carota L.). Carrots are a type of shrub-shaped vegetable plant, which grows upright with a height of 30-100 cm or more. Carrots (Daucus carota L.) are a tuberous vegetable type plant that is usually reddish yellow or yellowish orange with a wood-like texture. The edible part of a carrot is the bulb or root. The plant stores food reserves in the bulb. The stem is short, has a taproot that changes its shape and function into a round and elongated tuber. The skin of carrot bulbs is thin and if eaten raw, it feels crunchy and slightly sweet. Here's a picture of a carrot plant. One way to increase the yield of carrot plants is by increasing soil productivity, using the addition of NPK fertilizer. This study used a factorial randomized group design (RAK). For accuracy in this study, it was repeated 3 times. namely: NPK fertilizer (N) with 3 levels, namely: N0 = Control, N1 = 15 g/plot, and N2 = 25 g/plot. From the ANOVA test results, the variance of treatments that have a significant effect is continued with the Duncan DMRT test at the 5% level. The results of the ANOVA test showed that the effect of NPK fertilizer treatment on plant height 21 hst and 28 hst, the number of leaves had no significant effect, but the observation of the diameter of the base of the tuber, the fresh weight of the plant per sample and the fresh weight of the plant per plot had a significant effect.  Keywords: NPK fertilizer, NPK dosage, and carrot plants

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of fertilization based on nutrient requirements and production targets of green mustard (Brassica juncea. L) in a hydroponic system. The study involved varying fertilizer dosages and integrating them into the hydroponic system to assess the growth and production of mustard plants. The results showed that increasing fertilizer dosages in line with production targets could enhance plant growth, such as plant height, leaf count, and leaf width, as well as plant production in terms of wet and dry weights. Integrating fertilizer dosages with the hydroponic system also demonstrated increased effectiveness of fertilization on the growth and production of mustard plants. The interaction between increasing fertilizer dosages and the hydroponic system also positively impacted mustard plant production. The role of the hydroponic system in improving the efficiency of complete fertilizer application in mustard cultivation was evidenced by an increase in production yields of up to 24 tons/ha. These findings indicate that adjusting fertilizer dosages to match plant nutrient requirements and integrating them with a hydroponic system can enhance the growth and production of green mustard plants under hydroponic conditions.

Abstract

Nurse managers play an essential role in coordinating emergency department functions, especially during global health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including Indonesia, their experiences have not been widely explored, despite facing unique logistical, emotional, and cultural challenges. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of nurse managers in overseeing COVID-19 screening procedures in the emergency department of RSUP H. Adam Malik Hospital in Medan, Indonesia. A descriptive phenomenological approach was employed to capture the essence of their experiences. Ten nurse managers were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews lasting 30 to 60 minutes, supplemented by field notes and document analysis. Colaizzi’s seven-step method guided the analysis, with credibility ensured via member checking and triangulation using multiple informants. The study identified five major themes: (1) psychological distress in the early phase of the pandemic, stemming from fear, uncertainty, and concern for family safety; (2) challenges in implementing screening, including patient resistance, resource limitations, and PPE shortages; (3) proactive efforts for early COVID-19 detection through triage protocols and symptom-checking tools; (4) improvements in screening management, emphasizing leadership, education, and compliance; and (5) adaptation and resilience, as nurse managers developed strategies to cope with evolving demands and pressures. These themes reveal both universal healthcare struggles and context-specific issues—such as anxiety about infecting multigenerational households—that shaped nurse managers’ responses. This research contributes to the limited body of qualitative evidence on pandemic leadership in LMICs. The insights gained underscore the importance of robust emergency preparedness, targeted psychological support for healthcare leaders, and ongoing improvements in screening protocols. Strengthening these areas can better equip healthcare systems to face future public health emergencies. Keywords: Nurse Managers, COVID-19, Emergency Department, Screening, Indonesia, LMICs.

Abstract

Yellow leaf curl virus infection in chili pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) can significantly reduce crop yield. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of turmeric extract and NPK fertilizer doses on the incidence of yellow leaf curl virus in chili pepper plants. The research was conducted at the experimental field of Universitas Pembinaan Masyarakat Indonesia from June to August 2025 using a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors: turmeric extract (0%, 10%, 15%, 20%) and NPK dosage (0, 3.3 g, 5 g, 6.6 g per plant), resulting in 16 treatment combinations. Disease incidence was observed from 2 to 9 weeks after transplanting. The results showed that the highest incidence occurred at weeks 3 and 8. The K3P0 treatment (high-dose turmeric without NPK) resulted in the lowest incidence rate at 11.2%, while K1P3 (low-dose turmeric + high NPK) showed the highest at 137.5%. Although ANOVA results revealed no statistically significant differences (p>0.05), descriptively, high-dose turmeric treatments reduced symptoms and spread of disease. These findings highlight turmeric's potential as an eco-friendly botanical agent for managing viral diseases in chili cultivation. Keywords: chili pepper, disease incidence, NPK, turmeric, yellow leaf curl virus
