Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan berikut: (1) Apa saja kesalahan yang paling sering dilakukan oleh mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa Inggris dalam menerjemahkan teks bahasa Indonesia ke dalam bahasa Inggris? (2) Bagaimana tingkat kompetensi mahasiswa dalam menerjemahkan teks bahasa Indonesia ke dalam bahasa Inggris? Berdasarkan pernyataan masalah yang dikemukakan di atas, maka tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut: (1) Mengidentifikasi kesalahan-kesalahan yang paling sering dilakukan oleh mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa Inggris dalam menerjemahkan teks bahasa Indonesia ke dalam bahasa Inggris, dan (2) Mendeskripsikan tingkat kompetensi mahasiswa dalam menerjemahkan teks bahasa Indonesia ke dalam bahasa Inggris. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 20 orang mahasiswa. Dalam pengumpulan data, penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif. Metode ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan-kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa. Penulis memberikan sebuah teks bacaan berbahasa Indonesia kepada siswa dan siswa menerjemahkannya ke dalam bahasa Inggris. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) Jenis kesalahan tata bahasa dalam menerjemahkan teks bahasa Indonesia ke dalam bahasa Inggris yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa Program Studi Bahasa Inggris berdasarkan penghilangan, penambahan, kesalahan urutan dan kesalahan pembentukan. Kesalahan tata bahasa yang paling banyak ditemukan dalam menerjemahkan teks bahasa Indonesia ke dalam bahasa Inggris yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa adalah penghilangan sebanyak 98 kalimat. (2) Tingkat kompetensi, berada pada tingkat kurang. _________________________________________________________________________________ The study aimed to address the following research questions: (1) What are the most common errors made by students of the English Study Program when translating Indonesian texts into English? (2) What is the level of competence of these students in translating Indonesian texts into English? Based on these questions, the objectives of the study were: (1) To identify the most common errors made by English Study Program students in translating Indonesian texts into English, and (2) To describe the students’ levels of competence in translating Indonesian texts into English. The subjects of this study were 20 students. A qualitative method was used for data collection, focusing on describing the errors made by the students. The students were given Indonesian texts to translate into English. The results of the study are as follows: (1) Types of grammatical errors in translating Indonesian texts into English, made by the students, included omission, addition, mis-ordering, and mis-formation. The most common grammatical error was omission, with 98 sentences exhibiting this issue. (2) The overall level of competence among the students was assessed as poor.

Abstract

Research on the Use of "Slang Language" Variations on the Tiktok Platform for Generation Z: Sociolinguistic Studies certainly discusses the use of slang language variations on the Tik Tok platform or social media. The problem formulation in this research consists of types of slang language variations, the use of slang language variations and their meanings. The aim of this research is to describe the use of slang variations on the Tik Tok platform or social media and their meanings. The research method in this study is qualitative descriptive research which aims to provide symptoms, facts or events systematically and accurately. There are approximately 60 forms of slang variations used by generation z/teenagers on the Tik Tok platform or social media. Of the 60 data on language variations, 23 data are mispronunciations, 29 data are abbreviations, 3 data are shortened forms and 5 data are interjections. Variations of slang with data in the form of abbreviations are the most widely used by generation z/teenagers because the form is more practical and easy to apply and memorize. Abstract

This study stems from the existence of corrective feedback whose timing has become a hotly debated issue and requires further empirical investigation by second language researchers. This needs to be done because related to the ideal time to implement corrective feedback, some studies confirm that immediate feedback has more positive effects and maximizes students' learning opportunities. However, on the other hand, some researchers claim that of the two types of feedback, delayed feedback is more influential and beneficial in students' language development. This study aims to further explore students' perceptions of immediate feedback and delayed feedback in the writing learning process. Descriptive Qualitative Method was carried out in this study by   involving 20 students as samples. The instruments used in collecting data are questionnaire and interview. The data analysis technique used is an interactive model consisting of data collection, data filtering, data display and conclusion making or verification. The results of data analysis showed that all responses to immediate corrective feedback were positive as indicated by 66% of students chose strongly agree and 34% chose agree. As for delayed corrective feedback, only 35% of students agreed and the remaining 65% disagreed.

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the realm of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education has brought forth transformative possibilities, particularly in the context of student motivation. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, encompassing quantitative surveys and qualitative study of previous literature, to delve into the multifaceted dimensions of EFL students' motivation within the AI-driven learning environment. Quantitative data collection involves administering structured survey questionnaires to a diverse group of EFL students who have experienced AI-based language learning tools. Qualitative insights are gleaned through document/literature study, aiming to provide in-depth narratives and understandings concerning the participants' experiences, attitudes, and perceptions regarding AI in EFL classroom. This integration highlights the nuanced interplay between AI technologies and motivation factors, shedding light on how AI can enhance intrinsic motivation, boost self-efficacy, and facilitate personalized language learning experiences. Moreover, the study addresses ethical considerations, ensuring the privacy and well-being of participants throughout the research process. Ultimately, the research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on AI's role in education and its potential to shape the future of EFL instruction. By unveiling the implications of AI on EFL students' motivation, this study provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and stakeholders, guiding the effective integration of AI to foster enduring and enthusiastic language learners in an increasingly digital age.

Abstract

Speech acts are a person s ability to use language to convey messages or goals from speakers to speech partners Then this speech act is not only found in everyday conversations but can be found in other media such as novels Novel is a media for conveying messages and the purpose of writing and to provide entertainment to every reader Novel is a story or fiction that presents a deeper aspect of human life which is constantly changing and a meaningful dynamic unity One of the interesting novels and deserves to be studied is Marianne novel This novel was written by one great Indonesian writer named Risa Saraswati In this study the researcher conducted a directive speech act and used Marianne novel as a data source in this study This research is qualitative research using descriptive method The findings of this study there are as many as 12 utterances The forms of directive speech acts in this study include: 1 speech acts of requestives as many as 3 utterances 2 speech acts directive of questions just 1 utterance 3 speech acts directive of requirements as many as 2 utterances 4 prohibitive speech acts 2 utterances 5 permissive speech acts just 1 utterance and 6 advice directive speech around 3 utterances and each of these utterances has intentions and goals from the speaker to the speech partner < p>

Abstract

The problem based learning method is one of the methods that can be applied in EFL classes especially for students writing skills so that it can create a pleasant learning atmosphere and make learning more active in classroom learning activities The problem based learning model is one of the learning models that can shape scientific behavior social actors and develop students curiosity Learners are initially faced with a problem then followed by a student centered information search process Seeing the importance of this method this study aims to see the extent to which the PBL method can improve students ability to write Narrative text With Classroom Action Research design this study was applied to 20 students of class X In collecting data tests were used to obtain an overview of student achievement each of which was given in each cycle The results of this study show that PBL can improve students narrative text writing skills this can be seen from the percentage of student results in each cycle In addition to making the classroom atmosphere active and participatory PBL also makes students think more critically in solving their problems Students are required to be able to solve their problems both individually and in groups Seeing the important role of this PBL method the results of this study can be used as starting points or corrections for further research< p>

Abstract

The issue of gender equality is no longer a new one It arises along with the stereotype of men who have a higher nature than women In addition in terms of strength and rights women are also below men This aspect of gender inequality is one of the aspects developed by Rusmini in her novel Kenanga It tells the story of women who live under the pressure of men due to their gender This research was then made to examine every gender inequality behavior that occurs in this novel Using a qualitative method the research then applies a feminist approach in analyzing each event of gender inequality that occurs in Rusmini s novel Kenanga The results show that gender inequality against women mostly occurs due to stereotypes from the society in which they live This gender inequality occurs starting from the aspect that women s nature is under men therefore women must always obey men Moreover in terms of education women are also prohibited from getting a proper education than men because basically women s job is only to take care of men In addition women from the poor are often treated harshly because the customs enforced in society greatly differentiate between castes From this research a new direction is given that gender inequality needs to be a concern because considering today s developments it allows everyone including women to develop and have a career < p>

Abstract

This research is An Analysis Reduplication of Sabu< em> Language In Eikare Village Sabu< em> Liae District Sabu< em> Raijua Regency The purpose of this research are 1 to find out the forms of reduplication in the Liae dialect of the Sabu< em> language and 2 to find out the functions of reduplication in the Liae dialect of the Sabu< em> Language The research method that the researcher used is qualitative descriptive The researcher takes two native speakers as informants in the Liae dialect of the Sabu< em> Language The instrument used in this research is thirty sentences in Indonesian then translated into the Sabu< em> Language The researcher will use three data collection techniques: transcribing identifying and analyzing Reduplication in the Sabu< em> language is often used to give intensification or quantity to these words For example in the Sabu< em> language the noun is used to express the number of objects such as manu< em> chicken into manu manu< em> chickens In addition expressing repeated actions such as bejhi< em> sleep becoming bejhi bejhi < em> means to lie down It should be noted that reduplication in the Sabu< em> language is not just a repetition of words without phonological and morphological changes Each type of reduplication has specific rules and functions so it is necessary to analyze to understand the concept The results of this research are expected to positively contribute to the field of linguistics especially in improving the understanding of regional languages developing literacy and supporting local cultural preservation efforts by promoting the importance of the Sabu< em> language in the cultural context of the Sabu< em> community< p>
