Abstract

Abstract Communal spaces of Pedungan Village (Denpasar, Bali) have played important roles within the community. They have acted as places for various communal activities and interactions which over time have grown in type and scale. This takes place in line with level of physical and social development the Pedungan Village has been through. It is written based on a study aiming at how functions of these communal spaces have been transformed, as well as factors behind this transformation. The study achieves its objective by first, analysing the use/s of each communal space by certain groups within its communities and how these uses have changed. Second, it develops typologes of functional transformation experienced by many forms of communal spaces of Pedungan Village. In doing so, it implements qualitative research approaches and a naturalistic research paradigm. It is discovered that communal spaces have been transformed bith in functions and spatial structures. Major factors behind this transformation include systems of belief, customs and traditions, an increasing need for space, economic considerations, and the location of the communal space being studied. This study finds that the most functional transformations have taken place in communal spaces of a balai banjar. Such a trend however, does not happen on communal spaces where religious/ritual activities are performed. This is bcause ritual places are sacred and therefore cannot be amended, both in their uses and structures as is the case of other public spaces.

Title: Identification of Office Space and Facility Designs as an Effort to Prevent the Spread of the Covid-19 Virus; Case Study: An Architectural and Interior Consulting Office in Bali   During the post-pandemic period, many companies have been re-implemented work from the office. Due to this reason, it is necessary to identify whether the design of office space and facilities has fulfilled standards for preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This study aims to determine the condition of the office space design and facilities in Bali to generate a design in accordance to the standards for preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method and takes a case study of Bali's architectural and interior consultant building. The analysis is carried out by determining several variables and research indicators referring to the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number HK.01.07/MENKES/328/2020 and supported by some research results. The results show most of these offices being designed according to the standards for preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, such as the layout of the tables/chairs is at a distance of at least 1 meter, the signage designs and accessories guide for workers to adopt a healthy and clean lifestyle, providing dominant natural lighting and provision of the sink, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant. In general, this study shows that the office manager has tried to follow the government's recommendations to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, despite requiring further adaptation to this new habitual pattern.

Abstract

There is a need to preserve areas with distinct identities by utilizing several local architectural potentials to develop their appearances. One example of this is in the Denpasar and Badung regions of Bali, where the use of peciren bebadungan ornaments is currently being applied to shape their respective identities. The peciren bebadungan is an expression of brick tectonics with strong, hard, and simple characteristics. However, it has been observed that the designs of some public building facades in Bali were produced without due consideration for the meaning and philosophy of these ornaments. Therefore, this research was conducted to examine and analyze the importance of the cultural value symbol expression associated with the peciren bebadungan in Bali using a qualitative exploration method. The findings showed the implementation of the style on several public buildings in Bali, specifically in Denpasar City and Badung Regency, in combination with contemporary designs. Some others also apply the style but with incomplete implementation and modification through a simpler and more minimalistic concept. This was observed to have eliminated the inherent meaning and cultural symbol value. Therefore, it is recommended that the government, architects, as well as the entire community, need to play a very important role in preserving the peciren bebadungan cultural value symbol expression.

Abstract

Title: The Design of Buildings and Restaurant Facilities that are Family Friendly and Relevant to the Urban Culture of Denpasar   The urban community's demand to bring families to visit restaurants is significantly high. The on-site phenomenon indicates that the building designs of several restaurants in Denpasar have not maximally met the needs of the urban community, especially for families. Therefore, research is required to analyze restaurants' facilities and building designs to align with the needs of families and urban culture in Denpasar. The method employed is a qualitative descriptive method. The research results showcase the case study objects of several favorite restaurants in Denpasar, indicating that some already meet the needs of the urban community but need to be adjusted to align with current needs. The findings show that some restaurants are not in line with urban culture due to insufficient attention to the needs of the urban community. Issues related to spatial completeness and arrangement, availability of specific facilities, furniture design, and cleanliness of facilities contribute to this mismatch. The solution is to consider standard design, space, and security to meet needs, provide specific facilities, and implement the concept of green design. The contribution provided is in the form of input to ensure that restaurants are designed to adapt to the evolving needs of the urban community.

Lumbung or granary is a building that serves as a place to store rice. In some houses in the Sading Traditional Village, the granary is one of the buildings which is generally located near the kitchen. Abstract

Traditional markets in Bali reflect the richness of local culture closely related to people's daily lives. Along with the times and demands for progress, these markets are transforming through the modernization of architectural and interior design. This modernization impacts local cultural heritage, changing how people interact with markets and the traditional values that Balinese people have long upheld. Therefore, research on the transformation of local cultural values in the modernization of architectural and interior design in traditional Balinese markets becomes relevant to understanding the implications and evaluating the preservation and adjustment efforts needed to maintain a unique cultural identity. The main focus is on changes in building design that influence the user experience of the building and the sustainability of cultural heritage as well as providing insight into emerging challenges and opportunities as well as an understanding of efforts to preserve local cultural values. This study will use a qualitative methodology to investigate changes in aesthetic and cultural dimensions. The results of this study demonstrate that cultural values change due to modern buildings being constructed in Bali's traditional marketplaces. The building's modernization has an impact on everyday activities, including the waning of the bargaining culture, the consumer behavior when visiting the upper floors, the traders' behavior regarding the interior conditions of the market, the culture that elevates buyers to the status of kings, and the transactional atmosphere typical of traditional markets. The contribution involves active participation from local communities with solutions in the form of efforts to maintain cultural heritage that can be aligned with implementing innovations that have a positive impact. By involving traders and market owners, solutions can be found to modernize facilities while maintaining local cultural values.
