Abstract

Abstract

Empathy is one of the core competencies that doctors must possess. Teaching empathy is carried out since students are in undergraduate medical education. One of the learning activities that can be used to improve empathy skills is reflection. Many studies have reported on the empathic abilities of medical students. In addition, there have also been many scientific articles discussing the factors that affect the ability of empathy. However, how medical students learn empathy is still unclear, especially for first-year students who have just been exposed to medical science after graduating from high school. This study aimed to understand how first-year medical students learn empathy. A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was carried out. We selected randomly, a total of 30 medical student reflection journals were analyzed using content analysis techniques. There are three themes, namely stimulus, process, and effect. Medical students learn empathy driven by internal and external stimuli so that a thinking process occurs through several learning activities. The existence of this stimulus and process influences both the self and the patient/client. The whole process of empathy learning can show how early-year students learn and the factors that influence student empathy learning. This study supports other research that discusses the learning process and factors that affect medical students' empathy. This result can encourage curriculum planners to design appropriate empathy learning for students.

Abstract

The Covid 19 pandemic cannot be predicted when it will end. In June 2021, there has been very significant increase in new cases. The government has tried to control transmission by launching the 5M propaganda, consists of wearing masks, maintaining distance, washing hands with soap, avoiding crowds and reducing mobility. However, there are still problems existing related to community compliance in preventing the transmission of Covid 19, for example the use of masks and avoiding crowds. The aim of this project is develop and implement health education media related to Five M and Covid-19 vaccination. This project begins with development education media considering cultural wisdom, in order to easily accepted by the community. The term SMart-Punakawan Covid-19 (Sebelas Maret-Pendampingan UNtuk mAsyarakat dan KeluargA melaWAN Covid-19) was chosen to named this media. Punakawan is a puppet character,  the "servant" of the knights but has an important role as an advisor, so it is very suitable to represent health workers. There are several media used to convey the SMart-Punakawan  including videos, banners, brochures and its implemented to the community either face to face and online (youtube, whatsapp group) in order to reach wider community. The effectivity of this project measured quantitatively using instruments to measure knowledge about Five M and Covid-19 vaccination before and after implementation. We use Wilxocon test because the data wasnot normally distributed. As the result, there is significant differences on respondent knowledge before and after implementation (p<0.001). The SMart-Punakawan is effective in improving people’s knowledge related Five M and Covid-19 vaccination. However, further exploration is  still needed to know impact of the SMart-Punakawan in changing people’s behaviour.

Abstract

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has changed the education system, including problem-based learning (PBL), which is the main curriculum model in medical education. Social interaction and acquisition of knowledge and skills are one of the challenges in online learning during a pandemic. This study evaluated the use of the flipped classroom in the PBL curriculum of medical education. This study used mixed-methods design with a concurrent approach. The data collection technique was secondary data collection in the form of data from the block learning evaluation form. The evaluation form contains statements regarding the quality of the learning process, in the form of Likert scales. At the end of the form, there was a fill-in/essay question for more in-depth exploration. The quantitative data were analysed using descriptive univariate analysis, meanwhile, the qualitative data were analysed using thematic analysis techniques. Unbalanced learning load on the block, block learning management, and knowledge retention in block learning were considered lacking in flipped classroom block implementation. The management of time delays, a stage for students to be ready, a step to lessen psychological stress, and the use of media to generate different learning experiences are particular areas that need improvement.

Abstract

Collaboration in health services is an important thing to implement. With good collaboration, we can provide quality services and support patient health and comfort. Without good collaboration between health workers, medical errors can result. One of the obstacles faced by clinical supervisors in the field is that they have not received education related to IPEC when they study. So they have difficulty teaching IPEC. Therefore, training is needed regarding the implementation of IPEC for health workers in educational facilities such as community health centers. This community service aims to conduct IPEC training for health workers at the Karangdowo health center, Klaten. Service activities begin with socialization about IPEC, followed by assessing perceptions regarding interprofessional collaboration from health workers using the ISVS (Interprofessional Socialization and Valuing Scale) – 9A questionnaire. The service was attended by 30 participants from various health professions at the Puskesmas. The results of the assessment of perceptions of interprofessional collaboration obtained a scale score of 4-7 (medium-very large) indicating that the perception of health workers at the Karangdowo Health Center is good.. IPEC counseling plays an important role in increasing collaboration capabilities between health workers at Community Health Centers.
