Abstract

School age is the right time to improve the ability to maintain dental hygiene. Based on data from the UPT Puskesmas Martapura 2 which had conducted screening related to teeth and mouth at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Manbaul Ulum in September 2022, out of 29 students, 27 students experienced dental caries and 2 students had a Debris Index with an average of 3.0 (high). This study aims to determine the difference between chewing bengkoang fruit and papaya fruit on the Plaque Index in Class VII and VIII students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Manbaul Ulum, Banjar Regency. This research is an analytic research with a quasi-experimental design and samples were taken by purposive sampling technique with a total sample of 58 respondents. The results showed that the difference in the average (mean) plaque index before and after chewing bengkoang fruit was 2.0765 and the average (mean) plaque index before and after chewing papaya was 1.2358. The results of this study indicate that the difference in the average (mean) bengkoang fruit is greater than papaya fruit. Bengkoang fruit is better at lowering the dental plaque index than papaya fruit. The results of the analysis test using the Independent T-Test obtained the value of ρ<α, so that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. In conclusion, there is a difference between chewing bengkoang fruit and papaya fruit on the Plaque Index in class VII and VIII students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Manbaul Ulum, Banjar Regency. The advice given is that students can keep their teeth and mouth clean and eat foods that are good for their teeth and mouth such as bengkoang fruit or papaya fruit which are proven to reduce plaque found on the tooth surface.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the factors that cause high dental and oral health problems is tooth brushing behavior. Brushing behavior is influenced by knowledge about brushing teeth using the right technique or method. The media used in providing dental health education to children are video recordings and video presentations. In the video presentation, interaction with children can be carried out which can stimulate curiosity in children so that the dental health education material discussed can be well received by children. This study aims to determine the differences in counseling using recorded video media and video presentations on the knowledge of brushing teeth with the bass method on 13 year old students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Muhammadiyah Martapura. This research is a quasi-experiment with a pretest posttest research design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with a sample size of 30 students. The results of this study indicate that the average knowledge of using video recordings before counseling is 10.27 and after counseling is 13.00, while the average knowledge of using video presentations before counseling is 12.27 and after counseling is 13.60 based on statistical results with this test. Paired T-Test resulted in p value = 0.000 < = 0.05. Based on the results of the independent Simple T-Test, the value of p = 0.002 < = 0.05 was obtained. In conclusion, there are differences in counseling using recorded video media and video presentations on tooth brushing knowledge

Abstract

Based on 2018 Health research, 61.9% of Indonesians aged 55–64 and 54.2% of those over 65 had dental and oral health issues (Sari & Jannah, 2021). Meanwhile, 59% of people in South Kalimantan reported having dental and oral health issues. Just 2.1% of people in the 10–14 age range properly wash their teeth (Basic Health Research, 2020). The behaviour of people still unable to comprehend the significance of maintaining dental and oral health is one of the many factors that contribute the high number of dental and oral disorders. This is demonstrated by the fact that only 8.1% of Indonesians, out of 77.2%, clean their teeth correctly, and that 22.8% of the population does not brush their teeth (Ulfah & Utami, 2020). The focus of this community service project is to help improve the dental and oral health of SDN Antasan Senor Martapura students by using Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) and Fissure Sealant methods as both preventive and curative measures. Cross-sectional analysis and observation are the methods applied. Population represents 65 students classes I through V using total sampling method. After a preliminary assessment of sixty students, it was discovered that fifteen required ART treatment and twenty-three required Fissure Sealant treatment. Optimising dental and oral health using Fissure Sealant methods and ART as preventive and therapeutic treatments for dental and oral health is the suggested solution to this issue. The goal was accomplished since 23 students received Fissure Sealant and 15 students received ART. It is believed that SDN Antasan Senor Martapura is going to experience a decrease in dental caries and a rise in PTI as a result of this community project. To avoid tooth decay at an early age, it is advised that educators, parents, and students pay closer attention to dental and oral health
