Abstract

Transparency and public trust have become essential pillars for strengthening governmental legitimacy, particularly in democratic systems facing rising complexity and declining citizen confidence. This study aims to examine how the integration of political leadership and servant leadership can enhance institutional transparency and reinforce public trust. Using a qualitative literature study, the research analyzes scholarly articles, policy reports, and empirical studies published within the last decade. Data were collected through document analysis and evaluated using qualitative content analysis to identify thematic patterns related to leadership, transparency, and trust-building mechanisms. The findings indicate that servant leadership contributes significantly to ethical governance, open communication, and participatory decision-making, thereby promoting a transparency-oriented organizational culture. Meanwhile, political leadership provides the structural authority and policy direction necessary to institutionalize transparency through formal mechanisms such as open-government initiatives and public accountability systems. The integration of these two leadership approaches produces a synergistic effect: ethical values embedded in servant leadership are strengthened by the institutional power of political leadership, resulting in more consistent transparency practices and stronger public trust. This study offers strategic implications for public-sector leaders seeking to improve institutional legitimacy, accountability, and citizen engagement.

Abstract

Front office services at vocational education institutions significantly influence institutional image and student satisfaction. This study aims to describe the implementation of the hospitality mindset within the front office services at Politeknik NSC Surabaya based on perceptions from students across five academic programs. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, supported by quantitative data from questionnaires and participatory observations. The questionnaire utilized the SERVQUAL dimensions—tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy—and data were analyzed using SPSS 25. The analysis involved descriptive statistics from 99 valid respondents. Results indicate high scores across all dimensions, with assurance achieving the highest rating (3.85) and empathy the lowest (3.70). The findings suggest strong professionalism and trustworthiness among front office staff, although personal attention and empathy require enhancement. This research broadens the implementation of the hospitality mindset into educational administrative services, emphasizing empathy and responsibility as crucial elements for student satisfaction. Practical implications include recommendations for targeted staff training and operational procedure improvements in institutional services.

Abstract

Work motivation plays a vital role in the successful achievement of performance targets, particularly in the context of Islamic banking, which emphasizes ethical integrity and operational productivity. This study aims to analyze the role of work motivation in the successful attainment of performance targets among employees at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), Surabaya ITS Branch. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining descriptive qualitative and descriptive quantitative methods through questionnaires (n = 13 respondents), in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and internal document analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically, while the questionnaire results were processed using descriptive statistical analysis. The findings reveal that employees exhibit a very high level of work motivation, primarily driven by intrinsic factors such as achievement, recognition, and career development, and reinforced by extrinsic factors such as incentives and a supportive work environment. Performance records indicate that most segment targets were achieved, with some even exceeding the set standards. This study confirms that work motivation not only influences employees’ perceptions but also has a tangible positive impact on performance achievement. Practically, the findings offer strategic recommendations for Bank Syariah Indonesia management to implement a sustainable humanistic approach grounded in religious values in human resource management. This research also provides a novel contribution by exploring the collective and spiritual dimensions of work motivation within the academically rooted Islamic banking sector.

Abstract

This community engagement program aimed to strengthen secondary students’ entrepreneurial competence through an experiential-learning-based training that integrates an idea-analysis worksheet (positive–negative) as scaffolding and Business Model Canvas (BMC) development. The program was conducted at SMA Mujahidin Surabaya on 27 January 2023 in a single intensive session (approximately 2 hours) involving 99 students. The implementation followed Kolb’s experiential learning cycle (concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation) delivered in four stages: character and idea elicitation, worksheet completion, BMC drafting, and presentation/reflection. Evaluation was carried out through participatory observation and artifact assessment using predefined indicators for the worksheet and each BMC block; achievement was calculated as the percentage of participants meeting the indicators. Results indicate that 85% of students completed the worksheet accurately and 78.5% completed all nine BMC blocks. The main difficulties were found in the financial blocks (cost structure and revenue streams), suggesting the need for staged financial-literacy support in follow-up sessions. Overall, the approach shows promise as a practical and replicable model for entrepreneurship education at the secondary level.
