Abstract

abstractThis study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of the Living Qur’an model in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at MTsN 1 Kota Kendari. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results show that the Living Qur’an model at MTsN 1 Kendari is implemented through daily Qur’an reading routines, Qur’an memorization programs (tahfiz), and the integration of Qur’anic values into both the learning process and school life. This model has been effective in increasing students’ interest in learning, enhancing their appreciation of Islamic values, and shaping their religious character. The findings indicate that the Living Qur’an model is not only effective in teaching Islamic Religious Education content but also plays a vital role in the contextual and practical internalization of spiritual values. This study recommends that similar models be adapted by other educational institutions as a strategy to strengthen Qur’an-based character education. Keywords: Living Qur’an, Islamic Religious Education, value internalization, MTsN 1 Kendari

Abstract

This community service project focuses on enhancing translation competence through active learning at Pondok Pesantren Mambaus Sholihin Gresik. The main objective was to improve the translation skills of santri by engaging them in participatory and collaborative learning processes. The research employed a participatory action research (PAR) approach, involving close collaboration between the research team, educators, and santri as active subjects. Activities included interactive translation practice, group discussions, and continuous mentoring to foster better understanding and application of translation techniques. The project successfully increased technical translation skills, motivation, and critical learning attitudes among santri. Furthermore, it led to the emergence of self-managed learning groups and local leaders, indicating a social transformation towards a more independent and adaptive learning culture within the pesantren. This model demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating active learning and community empowerment to achieve sustainable educational improvements in pesantren contexts. Recommendations include institutionalizing active learning methods and strengthening local facilitators to maintain and expand the program’s impact.

Abstract

Pesantren is an Islamic educational institution that plays an important role in maintaining the Islamic scientific tradition through learning Turats and Arabic. However, in its development, the mastery of Turats among santri experiences various challenges, such as low interest in learning, monotonous teaching methods, and limited learning resources. Arabic language as the main key in understanding Turats is also often not optimally mastered by santri. Therefore, this study aims to analyses the relationship between mastery of Turats and Arabic language skills in pesantren, as well as to develop an innovative and interactive learning integration model to improve santri understanding. This research uses a descriptive method with a literature review approach. Data were collected from various academic literatures, such as journals, books, and scientific publications that discuss Turats learning methods and Arabic teaching strategies. The data obtained were then analyzed using thematic synthesis techniques to identify the main patterns in the integration of Turats and Arabic learning. The results show that the integration of Turats and Arabic learning in pesantren is an effective strategy in improving santri's understanding of Islamic literature while strengthening their Arabic language skills. Traditional methods such as sorogan and bandongan are proven to help santri deepen their understanding of classical Islamic texts and enrich their Arabic vocabulary and grammar. In addition, the curriculum approach that combines school, tutorial and dormitory learning further optimises learning effectiveness. Despite the challenges in teaching creativity and innovation, this integration remains a key strategy in ensuring santri have a strong religious understanding as well as Arabic language skills for the global era.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of contextualised communication strategies, grounded in Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), for teaching Arabic speaking in a Salafi pesantren, with a focus on Mamba’us Sholihin. Using a critical ethnographic case study, data were gathered through 120 hours of participant observation across classrooms, religious activities, and dormitories, as well as in-depth interviews with eight teachers and fifteen students, within its unique daily educational ecosystem. Findings show: (1) The pesantren’s CLT implementation entails complex negotiation with Salafi cultural values, integrating Arabic into religious practices, and relying on teachers and the kyais as essential socio-cultural mediators. (2) The hierarchical structure of the pesantren constrains open critical expression, necessitating cautious pedagogical adaptation. The study concludes that effective CLT in this context hinges on continual negotiation and adaptation to local values, and recommends developing a systematic, “glocalized” pedagogical framework that aligns CLT principles with the cultural and religious ethos of the Salafi Pesantren Mamba’us Sholihin.
