Abstract

Green Open Space (RTH) is an essential element in urban development, playing a crucial role in supporting ecological balance, providing shade, producing oxygen, and absorbing pollution. It also serves as a social and cultural space for the community. The neighborhood park located along the banks of the Deli River on Ileng Street, Medan Marelan District, represents a concrete example of this issue. The current condition of Ileng Park reflects a decline in its quality as a green open space. This study aims to identify existing problems in terms of the park's physical condition, functionality, and user activities. It employs a qualitative descriptive approach grounded in a case study framework, with data collected from both primary and secondary sources. The analysis is conducted using a rationalistic site analysis method. The findings indicate that the community perceives a need for the revitalization of the park to enhance comfort, attractiveness, and the implementation of the Islamic Garden Concept, which is considered appropriate for restoring the park’s function as a green open space.

Abstract

Road and drainage infrastructure development is an important component in supporting community mobility, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. Simalungun Regency as a region with extensive road network coverage still faces various problems, such as high levels of road damage and suboptimal drainage system function. This study aims to analyze the implementation of road and drainage infrastructure development carried out by the Simalungun Regency Public Works Department, by reviewing factors that influence the effectiveness of its implementation, the level of development integration, and the role of community participation based on the theory of Success Factors in Managing Wastewater Infrastructure through Community Participation . The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through documentation studies, observations, and interviews. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of road and drainage infrastructure development has been carried out in accordance with regional planning, but its effectiveness has not been optimal. Budget limitations, human resource capacity, weak supervision, and low community participation are the main factors inhibiting the success of development. In addition, the integration between road development and the drainage system is still low, thus affecting the sustainability of infrastructure. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen integrated development governance, increase community participation, and optimize supervision and funding so that road and drainage infrastructure development can be sustainable and provide long-term benefits for the people of Simalungun Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct a study related to the need for public facilities on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta, West Nias Regency, which is one of the main routes connecting tourist areas and economic centers in the area. This road has a strategic role in supporting community mobility and is the main access for tourists. However, based on public observations and perceptions, public facilities along the road are still inadequate, which has an impact on the comfort and safety of road users. This study uses survey and interview methods to explore public opinions regarding the condition of existing facilities, such as roads, sidewalks, street lighting, rest places, and other public facilities. The results of the study show that the community expects improvements in road quality, the addition of safe sidewalks, better street lighting, and other supporting facilities such as public toilets and rest areas, supporting technology. This increase in public facilities is not only expected by local residents, but also by tourists who cross the route. The study also highlights the importance of cooperation between local governments and the private sector to overcome budget constraints and create better facilities. It is hoped that the improvement of public facilities on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta will improve the quality of life of the community, support the local economy, and strengthen the tourist attraction of West Nias Regency.

Abstract

This study discusses the sustainability performance of public green open space (RTH) in Medan City through an integrated approach that includes environmental quality, social quality, and accessibility. The methods used include regression analysis, correlation, and ANOVA to test the influence of each variable on urban sustainability. The results showed that these three variables had a significant effect, with the regression model able to explain 68.4% of the sustainability variance. Social quality was the most dominant factor (β = 0.412; r = 0.74), followed by environmental quality (r = 0.68) and accessibility (r = 0.61). Spatially, USU Urban Forest shows the highest ecological performance with a canopy cover of 78%, an NDVI value of 0.72, and a lower average microclimate temperature (27.1°C) compared to Ahmad Yani Park (29.3°C) and Gajah Mada Park (30.1°C). However, Taman Ahmad Yani obtained the highest overall sustainability score (85/100) because it was supported by superior social perception (4.35) and accessibility (4.60). Meanwhile, Taman Gajah Mada showed moderate performance (75.3/100), and USU Urban Forest received a lower score (70/100) due to limited facilities and access range. The results of the ANOVA test showed a significant difference between locations (Sig = 0.000), which indicates that the Green Open Space typology affects sustainability. Ahmad Yani Park tends to excel in social and accessibility aspects, while USU's urban forests play a greater role in ecological stability. This study confirms that the sustainability of urban RTH will be optimal if ecological, social, and accessibility functions are developed synergistically and not partially.

Abstract

Riverbanks constitute an essential component of urban spatial systems, functioning as ecological buffers as well as spaces for community activities. In rapidly developing urban areas, riverbanks are often subjected to intense land-use pressure, which may lead to environmental degradation and increased hydrological vulnerability. This study aims to formulate strategies for the arrangement and restoration of the Bingai River riverbank based on existing conditions and the watershed (DAS) management policy framework. The research employs a descriptive approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods, complemented by SWOT analysis as a strategic synthesis tool. Data were collected through field observations, documentation, questionnaires administered to communities living along the riverbank, and a review of secondary data and relevant policy documents. The results indicate that the existing conditions of the Bingai River riverbank are not yet fully aligned with watershed management and spatial planning policies, as reflected by settlement pressure, limited riparian vegetation, and suboptimal environmental infrastructure. The SWOT analysis generates strategic directions emphasizing the strengthening of riverbank ecological buffer functions, gradual control of riverbank land use, and the integration of riverbank arrangement with existing watershed management policies and programs. This study is expected to provide an initial reference for the contextual and applicable management of urban riverbanks.
