Abstract

Musculoskeletal injuries, such as sprains, are one of the injuries that often occur in schoolchildren. This is due to a lack of information and understanding regarding first aid for injuries. Therefore, educational efforts are needed along with technological developments in order to empower students. The purpose of this service activity is to provide education to students through digital games containing the concept of first aid for musculoskeletal injuries (E-Fa Game). The method used is in the form of a pretest, providing health education using the E-Fa Game, and re-evaluating with a post-test. The results of this community service show that 83% of participants understand the procedures for first aid for extremity injuries, including resting the injured area (rest), giving ice, bandaging (compression), and elevating the injured area (elevation). Through this community service activity, it is hoped that more and more students will understand the procedures for first aid for musculoskeletal injuries, so that they will be able to become laypersons who are able to provide help in cases of injuries that occur around them.

Abstract

An injury can be experienced by anyone, regardless of age. Students are one of the most vulnerable groups. The school area is the second-highest injury area. Actions of first aid in the case of injury in the school environment become essential for students. To become the ideal layperson, a self-confidence is required as the foundation. The aim of this study was to identify the self-efficacy of junior high school children as laypersons in handling injury cases. This research was quantitative with a cross-sectional analytical-descriptive approach. The study was conducted in September 2022 at the junior high school (Sekolah Menengah Pertama/SMP) in Jember. A total of 239 students filled in the General Efficacy Scale questionnaire. The majority of the students’ self-efficiency rates as first-aid layperson in injury was in average rate of 60.1%, while those who have high self-efficacy was 20.8%, and a low one was 19.1%. When a school-age child giving first aid, it is necessary to pay attention to the child's age characteristics. In school-age children, characteristics are shown in relation to their cognitive skills according to reasoning and consciousness of the constantly developing self. To maximize the role of students as laypersons, one of the stimuli that can be done is by strengthening their cognitive possessions in order to align with the development of their self-efficacy, so that school-age children can prepare themselves as laypersons in injury management. One of the stimuli that can be done is to initiate first aid education in students. It is expected that education from an early age will prepare students for having self-efficiency in first aid.

Abstract

Injuries can affect anyone, including school-age children, and are often caused by a lack of understanding of injury concepts, insufficient knowledge of first aid, and unsafe environments. Therefore, it is crucial to provide first aid and health education to promote overall health and safety. The E-Fa (Education First Aid) Game is a novel approach presented as a game-based Android application. The aim of this study is to analyze the differences in students' knowledge improvement regarding injury management. The study design employed a quasi-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Fifty-one respondents were selected through simple random sampling techniques. Data collection involved the use of questionnaires to measure knowledge variables before and after the intervention with the E-Fa Game. The research was conducted at SMP 12 Jember. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. The results revealed that students' knowledge of performing first aid for injuries improved significantly. The average score increased from 5.90 during the pretest to 7.04 during the posttest, with a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant improvement in knowledge among SMP 12 Jember students in handling injuries after receiving the intervention with the E-Fa Game. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of the E-Fa Game in enhancing schoolchildren's knowledge of injury management.

Abstract

Students get injuries because of cuts, bleeding and sprains. Injuries occur with activities carried out such as academic learning in the form of sports. First aid is emergency care or treatment before medical help can be given to prevent serious problems. The aim of PKM is to form a group of injury prepared students so that they will later become first responder initiators. The method is through a series of health education and training using short films in regional languages at SMPN 1 Kalisat. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in students' knowledge from those previously in the inappropriate category. After the activity was carried out in the very appropriate category. Health Education Activities are the first step in initiating students to be prepared for injuries. This initiation is to form extracurricular PMR which has not yet been formed at school.
