Abstract

Background: Burns are a major cause of health problems, causing deaths every year. Burns usually occur in children, adolescents, and adults. Burns that occur in adolescents in the school environment are usually caused by fire or hot water. Efforts to improve attitudes about burn first aid include providing audio-visual-based health education. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in attitudes of students who were given audio-visual-based health education about first aid for burns at SMPN 14 Jember. Methods: This quantitative research uses a one group pretest-posttest design approach quasi experimental method. The sampling technique was purposive sampling of 34 subjects conducted in March 2024 for two weeks. The questionnaire sheet is the instrument used for data collection. Univariate analysis for percentage frequency distribution, and bivariate analysis with mc nemar test. Results: The results of the Mc Nemar test analysis showed a value of 0.05, indicating a difference in attitudes before and after being given audio-visual-based health education on burn first aid. Discussion: There are differences in the attitudes of students who are given audio-visual-based health education about burn first aid at SMPN 14 Jember.

Abstract

Introduction: Burns are an emergency problem that can occur anytime and anywhere, both minor, moderate and severe burns. Burns require proper treatment from the beginning of the wound incident. There are still many actions in providing first aid for burns that are not appropriate. Based on the results of a preliminary study at MA Raudlatus Syabab, as many as 80% of 10 students have experienced burns such as chemical contamination, scalded etc. Research Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in skills before and after being given health education using audiovisual about first aid burns in MA Raudlatus Syabab students. Methods: Pre-experimental research design with One group pre-post test design approach. The research population of MA Raudlatus Syabab class X students with a total of 37 people and a sample used 34 respondents. Purposive sampling technique is used. The measuring instrument uses an observation sheet and is analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: The average score of students' skills in practicing first aid for burns before being given health education was 32.24. While the skills of students after being given health education are with an average score of 81.71. The difference in average score before and after health education was 49.47. The results of the Wilcoxon test obtained P-values (0.000) < α (0.05), so the conclusion was that there were differences in positive skills from the category of less skilled to very skilled in students after being given health education using audiovisual about first aid burns. Conclusions: cooperation with health authorities is needed to become one of the learning media for students to improve their knowledge and ability to provide first aid for burns.

Abstract

Background: Burns often become a serious problem if they are treated incorrectly. Be it light burns, moderate burns or severe burns. Proper handling of burns is very important at the start of the burn incident, whereas many people and school children currently treat burns incorrectly. Purpose: To determine the difference in students’ readiness before and after being given health education using an animated videos of first aid burns using animated videos. Methods: In this research the author used a quantitative method, one group pretest-posttest design system approach. Researchers involved 35 students at SMPN 2 Krucil with 32 sample. The technique used purposive sampling. Then the media instruments used were questionnaire sheets and analysis using the Wilcoxon test (non-parametric). Results: Students' readiness before being given the animated video was in the least ready category, namely 27 respondents (84.4), and after being given the animated video, it was in the very ready category, the highest was 23 respondents (71.9%). From the Wilcoxon analysis, it was found that p (0.00) < α (0.05), so it can be concluded that H0 was rejected while Ha was accepted. Conclusions: There was a difference in readiness between students before and after being given health education using an animated video about first aid for burns. Discussion: It is hoped that educational institutions can provide material regarding first aid for burns to students using animated videos to increase students' readiness in dealing with first aid for burns which can occur at any time

Abstract

Musculoskeletal injuries in school children are one of the problems found, especially in rural areas. Providing health education on first aid for musculoskeletal injuries can build knowledge, motivation, and self-efficacy, so it is important to develop new strategies. This study analyzes the comparative effect of local language first aid short film media and the "“Toma Cemas”” module on students' knowledge, motivation, and self-efficacy. This study used a quasi-experimental method with two groups pretest-posttest. The first group received health education through local language short films and the second group received a ““Toma Cemas”” module on first aid for musculoskeletal injuries. With a population of 234 students, this study involved 84 samples divided into two groups, each consisting of 42 respondents using a stratified random sampling technique. The results of the independent t-test to assess the comparison of knowledge show p value 0.045 (p 0.05) and self–efficacy show 0.005 (p value 0.05).  There is a significant difference in the mean of knowledge and self -efficacy between the two groups there. The motivation variable shows a p value of 0.141 (p 0.05) so there is no significant difference in mean value of motivation. ““Toma Cemas”” Module is more suitable for increasing students' knowledge because the module's materials are in written form accompanied by animated images and explanations. Local language short films have a more effective influence than the ““Toma Cemas”” Module suitable for increasing students' self-efficacy related to the use of local languages, which help students feel comfortable in the process of learning first aid in rural areas.

Abstract

Introduction:  Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is a critical emergency condition that necessitates immediate intervention to prevent fatal outcomes. In rural areas, where access to quality educational resources is limited, Documentary Short Films (DSF) can provide essential training that enhances individuals' confidence and willingness to act decisively in emergency situations involving OHCA through CPR. Objectives:  To analyze the effect of DSF on enhancing student's confidence and willingness to perform CPR in rural areas. Methods:  This study employed a quasi-experimental design utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest framework, conducted at a junior high school in Jember Regency, involving 72 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. The educational media utilized was a Documentary Short Film (DSF). Following the administration of a pretest questionnaire and the viewing of the DSF, a post-test was administered one week later to assess changes in self-confidence and willingness to perform CPR. Results The results indicate a significant difference in students' confidence and willingness to perform CPR before and after the educational intervention using the DSF (p < 0.05). The average self-confidence score among respondents rose from 5.78 (2 – 3 questions responding with 'confidence') to 9.43 (4 – 5 questions responding with 'confidence'). Additionally, the average willingness score showed an improvement from 9.13 (3 – 5 questions responding with 'willing') to 15.68 (7 – 8 questions responding with 'willing'). Conclusions:  DSF for CPR training effectively enhances rural middle school students' confidence and willingness, improving community emergency response and safety .
