Abstract

Antibiotic resistance is a global problem in the health sector, which can be caused by the ease with which people can get antibiotics on the market, lack of supervision by the government regarding antibiotic consumption, inappropriate use of antibiotics, and excessive consumption of antibiotics in inappropriate communities. There is the potential for marine bacteria to produce secondary metabolite compounds, especially antibiotics, which generally come from various sources and substrates that associate with each other to produce secondary metabolites. The main substrate source for marine bacteria, known to produce secondary metabolite compounds as antibiotics, can come from sediments, sponges and seaweed. Several types of diversity of marine bacteria associated with sediment that have been identified include Aeromonas veronii, Arthrobacter sp, Bacillus sp, Chryseobacterium sp, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter cloacea, Flavobacterium sp, Microbacterium sp, Streptomyces tunisiensis, Streptomyces sp, Streptomyces microflavus, Stenotrophomonas sp, Pristia flexa, and Pseudomonas sp. This type of bacteria, Streptomyces sp, has the most potential activity as a new type of antibiotic. Data shows that the diversity of deep-sea bacteria producing active compounds from various substrate sources can be used as candidates for new types of antibiotics to overcome the existing level of antibiotic resistance.

Abstract

Rasbora borneensis is a local fish of West Kalimantan that has the potential to be developed as farmed fish and biomedical research model animals. The utilization of fish potential as aquaculture animals and biomedical research model animals requires data on the biological aspects of these fish. Data from Fish Base (2023) shows that until now the biological information of Rasbora borneensis is still very limited, both morphological, anatomical, and reproductive data. This study aims to analyze the morphological characters of Rasbora borneensis. The results of this study show that there are morphological differences between male and female Rasbora borneensis fish. Female fish show a rounded flat body shape, while male fish show a flat body shape. The measurement results show that the morphometric ratio of male and female fish is different. However, when viewed based on variations in the size of the specimens used, there are several sizes that have the same value.

Abstract

Antibiotic resistance is a global problem in the health sector. The level of antibiotic resistance that occurs can be caused by several influencing factors, including 6 isolates of rhizosphere bacteria that were successfully isolated from the rhizosphere of the Avicenia marina plant. The purpose of this study was to isolate and determine the best minimum inhibitory concentration of rhizosphere bacteria of the A. marina plant and its effectiveness in inhibiting pathogenic bacteria S. aureus. This study is a quantitative research method using the isolation and characterization of rhizosphere bacteria, antagonistic test of rhizosphere bacteria and test of the results of the extraction of filtrate of rhizosphere bacteria culture of A. marina plants. The results of this study were (1) five of the isolates of bacteria that were successfully isolated were included in the Bacilus type and 1 isolate of bacteria included in the Cocobasil type; (2) there were 3 of the 6 isolates that could inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria S. aureus with an inhibition range of 10.04-4.42 mm; (3) Rhizosphere bacterial isolate (TN 1) is an isolate with the best inhibition diameter and is categorized as strong, namely 10.04 mm; (4) ethyl acetate extract of Rhizosphere bacterial isolate culture filtrate (TN 1), has a minimum inhibitory concentration of 0.50% against pathogenic bacteria S.aureus with an inhibition diameter of 7.18 mm which is better when compared to the positive control using chloramphenicol.

Abstract

Abstract

Throughout the ages, humans have processed and produced food and beverages by applying the principles of biotechnology. In Indonesia, foods produced through biotechnology—such as tempeh and bread—are commonly found across different segments of society. However, due to a lack of information, many people remain unaware that these foods and drinks are the result of conventional biotechnology processes. Therefore, the aim of this activity was to introduce biotechnology and its role in the food industry, as well as to train students of Madrasah Aliyah Al-Jihad Pontianak in producing biotechnology-based products such as bread and tempeh. This activity was divided into two stages: the preparation stage and the implementation stage. During the implementation stage of the community service program, three main activities were carried out: first, a presentation of the socialization materials; second, hands-on training in making bread and tempeh; and third, the evaluation process. Monitoring and evaluation of the activity outcomes were conducted using questionnaires. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test, it was found that there was an 83% increase in knowledge among female students at Al-Jihad regarding biotechnology-based food products.
