Abstract

The lack of socialization carried out by Family Planning Field Extension Workers (FPFE) leads to fear among the community, especially among Couples of Reproductive Age (CRA), in choosing Long-Term Contraception Methods (LTCM). Couples of reproductive age require health education or counseling to help them determine which contraceptive method to use. This study aims to determine the role of PLKB for couples of reproductive age (PUS) in choosing LTCM at Sekerak District Health Center, Aceh Tamiang Regency in 2022. This study is a quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The population in this study was all couples of reproductive age in Sekerak Kanan Village, Sekerak District, Aceh Tamiang Regency, and the research sample consisted of 126 people. Data collection was done directly by distributing questionnaires to couples of reproductive age. Then, it was followed by the process of data analysis using the Chi-Square test and logistic regression. The results showed that there is a relationship between counseling quality in choosing LTCM with a value of (p=0.001; PR=3.4; 95% CI 2.201-5.294), there is a relationship between PLKB barriers in choosing LTCM with a value of (p=0.001; PR=2.2; 95% CI 1.724-3.007), and there is a relationship between FPFE capacity in choosing long-term contraceptive methods with a value of (p=0.001; PR=2.4; 95% CI 1.704-3.472). Furthermore, the dominant factor related to the selection of LTCM is counseling quality with a value of (p=0.000; PR=10.766 95% CI 3.491-33.204). Couples of reproductive age are expected to increase their knowledge, especially about long-term contraceptive methods, and it is hoped that men will not be ashamed to participate in family planning programs.

Abstract

Vascular disease, caused by oxidative stress and endothelial cell inflammation during hypertension's development, produces substantial mortality and morbidity. Mango mistletoe was tested for its effect on pulmonary superoxide dismutase (SOD) in hypertensive rats exposed to DOCA-salt in a preventative model. This study involves experimental quantitative research. SPSS was used for one-way ANOVA and post-hoc LSD testing. The population used was male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). The samples used were 25 male Wistar rats divided into five treatment groups because of the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality analysis. The treatment group included a negative control group, a positive control group, and a group given different doses of mango mistletoe methanol extract: P1 at 75 mg/kgBW, P2 and P3 at 150 mg/kgBW, and P3 at 250 mg/kgBW. The study indicated that 250 mg/kg BW mango mistletoe extract increased SOD levels in DOCA-Garam-exposed Wistar white rats (Rattus norvegicus). Enhanced superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde (MDA), ureum, creatinine, and renal histology see this. The normality of study data in the complete group assessing SOD, MDA, ureum, and creatinine levels showed a significance value larger than 0.05. The significance probability and one-way ANOVA test values are more than 0.05. The study found that mango mistletoe extract contains saponins, tannins, flavonoids, and triterpenoids that increase SOD levels and repair kidney cells damaged by hypertension in Wistar white rats. The study examined how mango mistletoe extract affects mouse hypertension. However, its conclusions should not be applied to humans. Clinical trials are needed to determine mango mistletoe extract's safety and efficacy for humans.

Abstract

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels resulting from insulin deficiency or resistance. Streptozotocin, a potent diabetogenic agent, is commonly employed to induce experimental diabetes by selectively damaging pancreatic beta cells, resulting in insulin deficiency and hyperglycemia. Elevated Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, indicative of oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation, are closely linked to diabetic complications. This study aimed to investigate the association between MDA levels and blood glucose in Streptozotocin-induced rat diabetes, shedding light on potential therapeutic strategies. Spectrophotometric analysis was utilized to quantify MDA levels in rat tissues, providing insights into the extent of oxidative damage. The results revealed a significant correlation between MDA levels and blood glucose, highlighting the role of oxidative stress in diabetic pathogenesis. These findings underscore the importance of targeting oxidative stress in diabetes management to prevent complications. In conclusion, the study emphasizes the relevance of monitoring MDA levels as a biomarker for assessing oxidative stress in diabetic conditions and guiding therapeutic interventions.
