Abstract

Integration, merger, and conglomeration are increasingly common strategies implemented by companies in Indonesia to increase competitiveness in the increasingly tight global market. Corporate integration, both vertically and horizontally, is expected to create operational efficiency and expand market share, however, this process still faces challenges in terms of supervision of healthy business competition. Mergers as an instrument to strengthen market position in the financial sector and other industries also have the potential to reduce the level of market competition, which requires strict supervision by institutions such as the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU). Conglomeration, on the other hand, is a diversification strategy carried out by large companies to maintain financial stability, but also risks creating market dominance that is detrimental to small business actors. The findings in this article show that although this strategy provides efficiency benefits, strict regulation and fair supervision of business competition are needed to maintain market balance and support sustainable economic development. The implications of competition policy in Indonesia must continue to be adjusted to global dynamics and digitalization developments that affect integration and merger practices.

Abstract

The manufacturing industry is still the main driver of the national economy. This is reflected in the consistency of the non-oil and gas processing industry which makes the largest contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP) with an achievement of 16.30 percent in the second quarter of 2023. The ability of the manufacturing sector to provide traded goods and jobs makes it a significant contributor to Indonesia's economic situation. The Indonesian government has taken various steps to increase competitiveness in industries that are considered strategic in facing liberalization towards the ASEAN Single Market, including the manufacturing sector. One of the most important economic sectors for Indonesia is the manufacturing sector. Apart from exports and its contribution to GDP which continues to increase, the manufacturing sector is a labor-intensive sector that absorbs a lot of workers.

Abstract

This study analyzes the strategy and development of industry in Indonesia with the aim of identifying the main factors that influence the growth of the industrial sector. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study through related documents and journals. The results of the study indicate that industrial growth is influenced by economic, social, technological factors, and government policies. These factors include the growth of the manufacturing sector, the availability of skilled labor, investment, and the adoption of Industrial Revolution 4.0 technology. Government strategies such as Making Indonesia 4.0, tax incentives, and infrastructure improvements have played a significant role in encouraging industrial competitiveness in the global market. However, challenges such as limited infrastructure, high production costs that hinder growth, especially for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and product quality that does not meet international standards are still major obstacles. This study concludes that in order to maintain competitiveness, industry must increase innovation, implement new technologies and strengthen the quality of human resources. The active involvement of the government in supporting policies and infrastructure is crucial to encourage sustainable industrial development.

Abstract

The Halal Industrial Estate (HIE) in East Java has enormous potential to capitalize on the global trend of increasing demand for halal products. As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia is expected to seize this opportunity through regulations that support the development of HZs, which can not only improve the competitiveness of local products but also expected to contribute to overall economic growth. However, challenges in the development of HEC need to be overcome through close cooperation between the government, industry players, and the community. Socialization of the importance of halal certification and its benefits for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) should also be improved to motivate business actors. This study takes a qualitative approach and literature review to understand how government regulations can support the development of the halal industry in Sidoarjo. The findings show that with the right regulations, KIH can function as a halal industry center that meets local needs and can compete in the global market. The strategic steps recommended by the government include increasing local production capacity, strengthening the halal ecosystem from upstream to downstream, and creating a competitive market environment. With these strategic steps, it is expected that East Java can optimize its role in the halal industry.

Abstract

. Industrial concentration is an indicator in determining the level of market dominance by companies in the economic sector. This study aims to analyze the concentration level of the cement industry in Indonesia, understand the market structure, company behavior, and industrial performance. The cement industry was chosen because of its significant role in supporting national infrastructure development. The research uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach, utilizing secondary data from various literature, including journals and books. The analysis was carried out by measuring market concentration using the concentration ratio (CR4) and the Herfindahl-Hirschman index (HHI), as well as the Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) approach. The results of the study show that the cement industry in Indonesia has a high level of concentration, with PT. Semen Indonesia as a market leader. The market structure is classified as oligopoly, characterized by the dominance of several large companies such as PT. Semen Indonesia. Market behavior includes price competition and non-price strategies, as well as distributions focused on innovation and market share expansion. The market performance of this industry is dominated by two large companies, reflecting significant oligopoly characteristics.

Abstract

This study discusses the importance of product sales in the context of effective marketing strategies in the era of globalization and intense market competition. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research analyzes the relationship between market structure, company behavior, and market performance through the Structure Conduct Performance (SCP) analytical framework. Literature studies and case analyses of companies, such as the research by Apriyanti and Ramadhani (2018) on palm oil marketing, indicate that oligopolistic market structures influence pricing and product strategies. This study also identifies factors affecting sales, including market conditions, seller capabilities, capital, and product innovation. The findings show that companies implementing aggressive and responsive marketing strategies to changing consumer preferences can achieve better market performance, as evidenced by PT Yamaha with its Nmax product, which has become one of the best-selling motorcycles in Indonesia. These findings emphasize the importance of understanding market structure and consumer behavior in formulating effective sales strategies to enhance competitiveness and company performance

Abstract

This article analyzes the impact of integration, mergers, and conglomeration on competition risk and economic stability using a literature review approach. The background of this research highlights the increasing prevalence of corporate mergers that may lead to unhealthy competition risks and economic instability. The study aims to identify the characteristics, impacts, and implications of integration, mergers, and conglomeration strategies within the context of market structure, corporate behavior, and performance. The research method employs a qualitative approach by collecting secondary data from journals, e-books, and relevant documents. Data analysis is conducted descriptively-qualitatively by examining the relationship between market structure, corporate behavior, and economic performance through the Structure-Conduct-Performance (SCP) analytical framework. Findings indicate that integration, mergers, and conglomeration have complex effects on business competition. The merging process can reduce the number of competitors, increase the dominance of large firms, and potentially create monopolistic practices. The SCP analysis reveals that changes in market structure through corporate consolidation significantly affect economic behavior and performance. The article emphasizes the need for effective regulation and oversight to minimize negative impacts, protect healthy competition, and maintain economic stability. The conclusion offers deep insights into the dynamics of business integration and its implications for market structure, behavior, and performance.
